And we're back round to Wednesday in the blink of an eye - at least it seems that way to me! Wednesday is the day we showcase one of the fantastic classes and workshop for kids listed on Byron4Kids and this week it's the turn of Bright Sparks @nrcgballina

This after school art program for ages 8-15 takes place every Wednesday at Ignite Studios in Ballina - in the historic former Ballina Fire Station.

This term students are exploring the relationship between drawing and sculpture, a thought-provoking program to challenge and inspire creative thinking. In the stimulating workshop environment of Ignite Studios, students creative capabilities are developed confidence is built in adapting to new materials and techniques ranging from drawing, sculpture, painting and storytelling.

We attended some of their fabulous school holiday workshops in October - check out the images in the next pictures for the fun we had in creating Big Heads.

These popular programs do book out so if you can't get in this term, get your name on the list for Term 1 2020. For more details, see Bright Sparks under our classes & workshops category on the website.

And, as soon as the summer school holiday program is released - yes, if you can believe it there's only 6 weeks of the term left 😱 - I will get the details up on our What's On Guide so you can jump on and book quick smart!👍 Have a wonderful Wednesday! 🙂 .

I recently learned how to weave this great little shopping bag from these two beautiful women. And how amazing are their headbands! All handmade from natural fibres growing in their environment.

Stills | STILL 29/03/2018

Celebrating the perfection of nature.
"This blog posts one image, daily, of gathered natural objects found near me.
Still blog is a place to stop. A place to look at one thing at a time. A place to be still."

www.stillblog.net

Stills | STILL these tulips were on my kitchen counter in this arrangement. i simply slid a piece of paper under them and took a photo. when my son saw me editing the photo just now, he said “no. just no.” (he often offers unsolicited feedback these days. he’s 14.) a little surprised, i asked him why not. .....

Waste

Australia has the highest per-capita emissions of any country in the world, and our ecological footprint sits at 7 hectares per person, 4.8 hectares above the global average, and 5.2 hectares above what is actually sustainable. ‘Radia’ aims to reduce importation through the development of locally, and sustainably crafted designs. Through the use of 100% locally sourced, recycled timber, and a composite board I developed using spent leaves from eucalyptus oil production (a waste material) and bioresin, ‘Radia’ designs have the ability to shift our current cradle- grave approach to products, to a close-loop system whereby our waste materials can continue to be up-cycled or recycled.

SOS (Small Object Space), Brisbane

Rebecca Ward, Bushcraft series, 2016. Found sticks and sterling silver.

This exhibition features a series of brooches that draw on the modern day survivalist movement and Ron Edwards’ popular book series from the 1970s and 80s from which the exhibition takes its name. Jeweller Rebecca Ward imagines a situation where the maker has nothing but sticks from the forest, a roll of wire and some basic tools to make wearables in her basic bush hut. The works set out to playfully map the effects of living in isolation and the madness and resourcefulness of the bush dweller, but family life disrupts this romantic proposition taking the work in an unexpected direction.

SOS is presented in partnership with Griffith University’s Queensland College of Art. SOS is an exhibition space dedicated to showcasing the college’s best small object works from students, staff and alumni

Optical Illusion in Sculpture 17/01/2018
