21 DAY MARRIAGE CHALLENGE- Day 2: Health

“Dear friend, I hope all is well with you and that you are as healthy in body as you are strong in spirit.”

I started my health journey many years ago. But as I have gotten older I have experienced new and different things. I realize this is true for my husband as well.

Therefore, one of our prayers for each other is that we walk in wholeness (body, emotions and spirit). I like the Scripture above because it starts with the word “friend.” I believe one of the best things we can do for the health of our marriage is to develop friendship with our mate. Then the writer says what I want for my friend is wholeness: body and spirit.

Our next challenge is to ask God how do we support each other in these areas? How do we show up for our friend to support his or her health in body, emotions and spirit?

That may mean changing how you talk to each other. Are you stressing each other out because you aren’t listening or working together? Start by honoring each other to listen to their concerns. Don’t listen to just give a response, but listen for understanding, revelation and clarity.

Or it may mean the two of you plan meals that are healthier. Shop together or prepare meals together. That way both are involved. Or encouraging each other to take some “me time”.

I am sure it will also require some devotional time together. 5 am every morning, whether we are on vacation or not, we listen to our devotional and pray.

So how will you pray for your spouse health? Are you up for the challenge? What is God revealing to you?

21 DAY MARRIAGE CHALLENGE

Marriage Moment: are you fighting to BE right or fighting for WHAT’S right?

This morning before my husband went to work he stopped and asked me how could he pray for me today. I was touched by his request. I told him mine and ask what his were.

After he left, this is what I heard. Holy Spirit said if more folks would stop fighting to be right in their marriages and seek Him for the best for their spouses, they would begin to see a shift.

What would shift? Great question!

1. Selfishness ceasing - when you are fighting to be right the opinion or view points you see are your own. If you seek God in prayer asking God for His best for them, He will show you if your attitude was helpful to them getting God’s best.

2. Alignment - there is no way you can pray for your spouse and your spouse pray for you, that God won’t align the two of you. What He does is reveals the selfishness or stubbornness of the heart (repent when He shows you your heart). And then if we let Him, He aligns us to His purpose.

I have a challenge for every married couple reading this post. For the next 21 days ask your spouse how can you pray for them. And when you pray don’t pray as if you know what they need.

Go to prayer asking God to grant what they need and then ask Him how does He want you to support or show up for your spouse.
