My Cathedral

by

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Like two cathedral towers these stately pines

Uplift their fretted summits tipped with cones;

The arch beneath them is not built with stones,

Not Art but Nature traced these lovely lines,

And carved this graceful arabesque of vines;

No organ but the wind here sighs and moans,

No sepulchre conceals a martyr's bones.

No marble bishop on his tomb reclines.

Enter! the pavement, carpeted with leaves,

Gives back a softened echo to thy tread!

Listen! the choir is singing; all the birds,

In leafy galleries beneath the eaves,

Are singing! listen, ere the sound be fled,

And learn there may be worship without words.

lughnasadh

Lughnasadh, Lughnasa or Lúnasa is a Gaelic festival marking the beginning of the harvest season. Historically, it was widely observed throughout Ireland, Scotland and the Isle of Man. Traditionally it is held on 1 August, or about halfway between the summer solstice and autumn equinox.

In Celtic mythology the god Lugh one of the chief gods of the Tuatha De Danann, established the Lughnasadh festival as a funeral feast and games commemorating his foster-mother Tailtiu. She died on August 1st of exhaustion after clearing the plains of Brega for farming.

This ritual typically involves decorating an altar with symbols of the season. Some of these symbols include scythes (because they are used to cut the grain), corn, grapes, apples, and/or any other crops that might be harvested at this time.

White Hart

In English folklore, the white hart is associated with Herne the Hunter. Arthurian legend states that the creature has a perennial ability to evade capture, and that the pursuit of the animal represents mankind's spiritual quest. It also signalled that the time was high for the knights of the kingdom to pursue a quest.

~

How rare is it to see a white stag?

The condition, known as leucism, is very rare in this species, with genuine white stags only occurring occasionally in the wild - examples have only appeared a handful of times in the past 50 years.

~

The white hart was a common element in Celtic mythology, a messenger from the other world and the starter of quests.

moððe

The modern English word moth comes from Old English moððe

~

Moths can be symbols of death and the afterlife.

In Chinese folklore, moths are also associated with the souls of loved ones who have passed away, and many believe they bring messages from the afterlife.

~

moths remind us of the importance of endings in the process of transformation. "While we may fear its connection with death and endings, Moth is also a sign of rebirth. Its presence encourages us to trust the process of letting go so that we may move ahead,"

The summer solstice is when the sun is at its furthest point from the equator, making it the longest day of the year
Blessing to all...
The first day of summer for the Northern Hemisphere is known by many names: the summer solstice, Midsummer, Alban Hefin (or “light of the summer”) to the Druids, or Litha to most pagans.

Wow what a ride!

“Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow!

Blessed Beltane

Wed, 1 May 2024

celebrating the start of summer and open pasturing, a festival celebrated for over 1110 years or so..

Cattle were driven between two bonfires as a magical means to protect them against disease before going to open pasture.

A custome still observed in Ireland right up to the 19th century. The festival is also known for May day Pole dancing. On May eve witches and fairies were thought to roam freely, so may be take a little precaution to protect ones self against their enchantments:P

A pre Christian Celtic celebration.

Druid Earth

One of the most striking characteristics of Druidism is the degree to which it is free of dogma and any fixed set of beliefs or practices. In this way it manages to offer a spiritual path, and a way of being in the world that avoids many of the problems of intolerance and sectarianism that the established religions have encountered.
