I took my son for doctor's appointment today at the well known clinic. Here is one of the questions on the health questionnaire.
What are your thoughts?
If you ever heard my full story you know that I used to hate my 136lbs body for 15 years (age 16-31).
My healing journey began when my first son was born almost 7 years ago. Few days after giving birth and with 50lbs of pregnancy weight on me, I finally let go of the body-hate. Over time, I stopped negative self-talk and I started viewing my body, food, health and my life, in a whole new way. I became free from dieting and body shaming.
Do you wonder what happened? My body didn't change, but my perspective did. I realized that my life wasnât just about me, it was about my contribution to others. At that time, my family.
7 years later, my family still is the most important to me, but every day I also ask myself how can I help another woman befriend her body, quit damaging dieting, make peace with food and embrace who she really is.
Today this feeling is stronger than ever as I come to realize that even though women achieved so much over centuries, they still get imprisoned by the social expectations around âperfectâ body. Collectively we stopped trusting our own experience and our own physiology. As a result, we became disconnected from our body which is causing us so much pain and suffering.
So, I am asking all of you today: who defines what beauty is if not women themselves? Who really knows how much anyone should weigh? Who knows better than you which diet is the most suitable for your body and your lifestyle?
Finally, what does it mean to be a woman?
When I think WOMAN, I think nourishment, love, care, wisdom, creative expression, movement, flow, balance, life, beauty, contribution.
None of the above is tied to "perfect weight". At any given time you have everything you need to go after your dreams; to be who you want to be and to fully express yourself in the World.
You are enough today.
