How To Sleep With Wet Hair So It Looks Gorgeous The Next Morning

○ It is natural to feel lazy or tired of blowing dry your hair in the night. But if you wash your head in the night without drying it, the chances are that you will wake up with half curls and weird looking tangles on your hair. The good news is that you can sleep with your hair wet without waking up with unmanageable, weird-looking strands. Beauty expert Janet Fernandez tells you how you can do it.

○ Tie a bun: You can simply finger comb your hair into a loose bun at the crown of your head and tie your hair with a soft, hair band. You will get a natural-looking, beautiful and shiny hair when you take down the bun in the morning.

○ Do a braid: Also, braiding your hair when it is wet can give you those glamorous waves. You can experiment with a braid, multiple braids, fishtail or a French braid to find out which one works best for you. Here are 4 night tricks for naturally styled hair every girl should know.

○ Sleep with a deep conditioning hair mask: Frizz is one of the biggest complain most women have when they sleep with wet hair. To keep the frizz from forming, you can try sleeping with a deep conditioning hair mask on your hair. Use a mask that is not too heavy but hydrating so that you do not wake up with greasy hair in the morning.

○ Sleep on satin pillowcases: You may just want to swap the cotton pillowcases for the silk or satin ones. The cotton pillowcases can absorb moisture from your hair and also lead to knots. The smooth surfaces of a silk pillowcase can keep your hair tangle free, and silk is not as absorbent. Also, sleeping on a satin pillow will allow your strands to glide around freely causing less frizz and damage to your hair cuticle. Here are some expert tips to protect your hair from damage while sleeping.

Easy Chemical-Free DIY Mascara For Healthy, Beautiful Lashes

Things you will need:
• Activated charcoal powder – ½ teaspoon
• Bentonite clay/ multani mitti– ½ teaspoon
• Castor oil – 2 drops
• Aloe vera gel (natural) – 1 teaspoon
• A dry bowl
• A small toothpick
• An empty mascara container with the brush

Method:
Prepare the base by mixing castor oil with the aloe vera gel. Now add the dry ingredients bentonite clay/multani mitti and the charcoal powder to the wet mixture. Use the toothpick to mix all the ingredients together till they are all blended smoothly. The mixture should form a creamy consistency. If it appears too lumpy, add more of the wet ingredients. Ensure that the mixture is not too runny either. Adjust the colour by adding more or less of the charcoal powder.
Once all the ingredients are thoroughly blended, transfer into an old mascara container or a small plastic box. Make sure that mascara container is thoroughly washed and dried, and it doesn’t contain any traces of mascara. Use the applicator and apply to your lashes.

Points to remember:
• Make small batches since natural ingredients such as aloe vera does not have a long shelf life.
• You can omit castor oil if you want to make a dry version of the mascara.
• Store in a refrigerator and use only when required.
• Even though it is made of natural ingredients, try not to get the mascara into the eyes.

What You Should Do After Popping A Zit

You know you’re not supposed to pop a pimple. Heck, your 13-year-old niece knows you’re not supposed to do that. But sometimes the temptation is too great to resist, especially if that zit shows zero signs of backing down.

So…you pop it. Now what are you supposed to do?

First, don’t panic: You’re not going to skin hell because you got a little squeeze-happy. Just, you know, don’t do that again.

While Gary Goldenberg, M.D., medical director of the Dermatology Faculty Practice at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, doesn’t recommend popping zits, he says there are a few steps you can take in the aftermath. First, use a cold compress on the area to reduce swelling and redness. Then, apply some benzoyl peroxide. “Popping a zit likely causes some of the zit contents to spread deeper down,” he explains. “Benzoyl peroxide can help reduce the amount of bacteria in the area and decrease inflammation, decreasing likelihood of scarring.”

Then, wait it out. Goldenberg says it’s okay to cover the area with makeup once it’s stopped oozing. He usually recommends green-tinted makeup to hide the redness.

Lemon for Homemade Mask

Lemon is often added to cleansing products because of its clean smell, but it is also a good cleaning agent for the skin because of its acidity and vitamins. You can make a face mask out of lemon juice alone that will help cleanse your skin and slough off dead skin cells.

If you find that straight lemon juice is just too much for your skin to handle, try diluting it with purified water until you reach a consistency that works well for you. As always, organic lemons are recommended over conventional when applying to your skin.

Why it works: Lemon has an astringent effect on the skin and will work as an exfoliant thanks to the citric acid it contains. This can be a bit harsh on the skin, so you may want to follow up with a soothing mask, such as milk, yogurt, or oatmeal, all found on this page.

Healthy Tomato Sauce

Who wouldn't want beautiful and glowing skin? One important way of achieving this is by watching what you eat. Here are our favorite recipes that feature lycopene, omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin C, minerals, and zinc -- they'll keep you looking good.

Tomatoes are the best source of lycopene, a powerful antioxidant that protects skin from environmental damage. Other foods rich in lycopene include watermelon and pink grapefruit.

INGREDIENTS

2 tablespoons olive oil
1/2 medium red onion, minced
4 cloves garlic, minced
14 ounces (1 can) diced tomatoes in juice
3 tablespoons dry red wine
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano, crumbled
1/2 teaspoon dried basil, crumbled
Coarse salt, to taste

DIRECTIONS

In a medium skillet, heat oil over medium heat. Add onion and garlic; cook, stirring frequently, until softened, about 7 minutes.
Stir in tomatoes and juice, wine, oregano, and basil. Simmer 8 minutes or until lightly thickened. Season with salt to taste.

Take Care When Brushing Wet Hair

Water weakens the hair shaft and hair fibers fill with moisture, which causes them to stretch. While this sounds like a short-cut to getting longer hair, it’s actually the opposite—it causes breakage leading to short ends that won’t smooth down, causing frustrating fly-away hair. “I tell my clients to use a leave in conditioning treatment spray when wet,” said Wendy Gallo Sloan, a hairstylist in New York. “Work that though the hair with a Wet Brush (best) or a wide tooth comb.” Another tip is to angle the comb upward while detangling wet hair to lessen pressure on hair and make it less likely to snap.

Why Pimples Keep Showing Up in the Same Place

Alternative idea: Since telling you not to pick is as pointless as telling you not to text, let’s keep it real and like some other practices, teach you how to be safe. The rule is this: If it’s inflamed, sore, and red, leave it alone. If it’s a blockage or blackhead, you can extract it but there’s a right way and a wrong way to do so. Prep your skin first by showering or washing your face to soften skin and increase pliability. Next use a gentle exfoliant (look for ingredients like rice bran, fruit enzymes, and salicylic acid) to help lift away dead cells that block the follicle opening and help your impaction to ease out without needing excessive force. Make sure hands are very clean and nails are short, and better yet, copy us pros and tightly wrap Kleenex around your forefingers (remember to swap out for fresh Kleenex as you go to avoid spreading the bacteria).

For inflamed pimples, a bacteria controlling and soothing spot treatment can be dabbed on frequently using a Q-tip for utmost hygienic delivery. Look for one or two of these pimple fighting ingredients: sulfur, niacinamide, lactobacillus ferment (healthy bacteria to banish the bad kind), colloidal silver (also super healing), azelaic acid and soothing green tea, tea tree, and licorice.

Keep in mind that comedones (the main sign of acne, consisting of a dilated (widened) hair follicle filled with cell debris, bacteria, and sebum) and breakouts are different types of lesions — one is inflamed and dangerous, the other not so much, and not all comedones become pimples, but pimples can start out as comedones. Seeing a skin pro is the best way to learn about your lesions so you can practice safe skin acts. We can help clear up breakouts before they turn into scars and are there for life.
