Last game he had a 5 point game tonight he extended his home point break and passes William Nylander for the longest point streak the leader on that list is Mr 99 😳
Wednesday night was a night of milestones and streaks for the Winnipeg Jets.
They're hoping that the most important of which is the start of a new winning streak.
The Jets pumped the Detroit Red Wings 5-2 to remain undefeated in regulation against the Eastern Conference this season, the last team in the NHL to do so with a 7-0-3 record. A lack of success against the East has been part of the Jets' undoing in past seasons, so this is a very welcome change. The Jets also extended their streak of allowing three goals or less to an astounding 21 consecutive games; even losing 3-2 to the Montreal Canadiens on Monday night actually helped the Jets surpass the old franchise-best of 19 with their 20th.
The first tally of the game was also the only marker of the opening 20; at 15:38, Neal Pionk threw a point shot on goal that at first appeared to deflect off Morgan Barron, and possibly a high stick, but after review, it was determined to be Pionk's goal as it bounced off Wings defenseman Jeff Petry in front- with no high stick. David Gustafsson, one of two Jets' forwards playing their 100th career NHL game, picked up an assist on the play. The visitors would tie it just under two minutes into the middle frame, as defenseman Olli Maatta fired home a nice shot.
Just under six minutes later, Nikolaj Ehlers would put Winnipeg up permanently. Just over three minutes after that, Axel Jonsson-Fjallby would take a brilliant breakout bank-pass from Dylan Samberg and fire home the eventual game-winner on a breakaway, his first strike of the season and second point of the game (having also assisted on Pionk's goal). Just under five and a half minutes after that, Gabe Vilardi scored his sixth goal in his last six games. Cole Perfetti, the other Winnipeg forward who reached 100 games in this one, assisted.
Perfetti celebrated his Centennial NHL game by setting Vilardi up with a brilliant cross-crease feed. The other assist on the play was from Alternate Captain Josh Morrissey, who took a puck to the face against Montreal on Monday, but came back in that one, and played this whole contest too. Detroit pulled within two at 8:41 of the third period; Patrick Kane would capitalize on a lucky bounce and chip a loose puck out of a crowd of players and in for his second goal as a Wing and second point of the game, but Mark Scheifele would have the last say at 15:12.
Backup Laurent Brossoit was solid for the home side in this one, with 26 saves on 28 shots, several of them absolute 10-Bellers. Manitoba native James Reimer was far busier in his home Province, making 36 saves on 41 shots. There were only two penalties in this one; Winnipeg killed off both Detroit power plays in the third to snap a long skid of allowing a power play goal. Tonight, they'll hope to keep the positivity going in their last game before Christmas, hosting the Boston Bruins. Connor Hellebuyck will be back in goal, likely facing Jeremy Swayman.

The Red Wings have now dropped four straight games after losing to the Winnipeg Jets 5-2. Patrick Kane scored along with Olli Maatta.Kane has looked impressive since signing with the Red Wings but the rest of the team can't get on board. The Wings have lost 7 out of the last 8 games and are looking rough. Goaltending is the weakest link in this team right now and I believe the Wings are in big trouble if they can't get their goaltending in shape. The Wings play the Flyers tomorrow and the Devils on Saturday before the Christmas break
Caps pull out another OT win while the drought continues for Ovi ! The team is hanging in standing wise and currently would hold the 2nd wildcard spot with games in hand on most of the teams that are ahead of them . It’s really early to be discussing playoffs but using the info more as a reference that as bad as the team seems with the scoring issues they are hanging in where it counts . Let’s hope Ovi and the boys can get the scoring woes figured out soon though .
Keumper makes 30 saves on the night to earn the win.

La Kings Vs San Jose sharks
Your LA Kings go into San Jose on Tuesday evening carrying an 17-6-4 season record which is good enough for 3rd place in the Pacific div.
Team leaders Kopitar, leads with 13 goals/16 assists and Fiala has 6 goals/ 23 assists for 29 points each.
In the first period there is a lot of back-and-forth action, but it isn’t until the waning minutes that a penalty is called against the Sharks and the LA Kings go on the Powerplay resulting in a Kopitar goal.
There’s a lot more action in the second period where Trevor Moore scores with help from Fiala and Danault. Then a minute later, Laferriere scores his fourth of the season with Kopitar and new defenseman Jordan Spence who has fit in well this year. It is 3-0 Kings and this is the first six minutes of the 2nd period.
The third period starts a lot like the first with a late goal by Trevor Lewis, the veteran Kings player who recently rejoined the team, making it 4-0 Kings.
The period ends with San Jose’s first goal of the game by Jacob MacDonald.
David Rittich made 15 saves in his debut with the Kings (18-6-4), who are 13-1-1 on the road.
The San Jose sharks have one of the worst records in the NHL and without Center Logan Couture it doesn’t look good. Coaching David Quinn said in interview before the game that at least his team was last.
Kings play the first of a back to back games in San Jose then on to Seattle to face the Kraken on Thursday at 9pmCST.

The Winnipeg Jets have collected at least a point in every game but one that they have played so far in December.
Unfortunately, just one point was what they got in their last game.
The Jets' third single point of the season came on Monday night after a 3-2 Overtime loss at home to the Montreal Canadiens. Things didn't get going until the second period, when Habs defenseman Mike Matheson kept the puck in the Jets' zone, took a return pass and fired it on goal, and after Connor Hellebuyck made a shoulder save, the puck caromed in off Josh Anderson's skate 4:57 in. At 15:04, the visitors would add to their lead on the power play when Anderson of all people would glove a puck down and send it cross-crease where Christian Dvorak would slam it home. The tally would be reviewed for a possible glove pass, but it was ruled that the puck nicked Anderson's stick and the goal stood.
Four minutes later, with just 55.5 seconds left in the middle 20, a puck hit a crowd in front and bounced right to Gabriel Vilardi, who showed off some quick hands at the side of the net to tuck it in. The final frame had only one marker; the tying one from Cole Perfetti who reached double digits in goals for the first time in his career. Vladislav Namestnikov took a slapper, and after a Jake Allen save, Perfetti cashed in the rebound at 12:24. After what Jets fans thought were a couple of missed calls on Winnipeg- and soft calls on Nikolaj Ehlers in the last minute of regulation and Captain Adam Lowry in the first minute of Overtime- although Matheson also got called at the same time as Lowry- the Habs would win it.
The visitors' second man-advantage marker of the game came 69 seconds into Overtime with Justin Barron scoring to take down his brother Morgan's team. Allen ended up being instrumental in the win, saving 30 of 32 shots, all but six of which came in the second and third periods with Winnipeg pushing. While it wasn't outright Hellebuyck’s fault that the Jets lost, he's had better career games, with 23 saves on 26 shots in this one. Hellebuyck is a famous bounce-back goalie, but he'll have to wait until at least Friday to do that. While his home state's Detroit Red Wings are in town tonight for "Original Six Week", and he did start against- and beat- them in October, Laurent Brossoit will get the start tonight.
For the Red Wings, the goaltending situation is a little more complicated. Both Ville Husso and Alex Lyon are injured, and so Detroit has signed former Jet Michael Hutchinson, who was the best goalie in the NHL for a month with Winnipeg back in 2014-15, but has mostly been a backup since. Either he or Manitoba native James Reimer will start tonight. In other news, the injured Finns, forward Rasmus Kupari and rearguard Ville Heinola, have joined their teammates at team practice in non-contact jerseys, and Jets prospect Rutger McGroarty, who was questionable to play at the upcoming World Junior Hockey Championship, will not only play, but was named Team Captain of Team USA this morning.
MVP. Say that again..MVP. Sid will finish the season in 10th all time on the NHL Scoring list. He is on Pace to score 50 Goals and 100 points. At 36 yrs of age, he is still the best all around player in the NHL. Having an incredible season. We should all feel fortunate we have had the pleasure of watching his entire career.
Might do an episode of the BlueNote Fan Report today..
Who wants one?
Let’s talk about Kyrou.
They say that when a team gets over the hump, it puts the whole League on notice.
Well, for the Winnipeg Jets, what a better way to do so than beating two of the top six teams in the League back-to-back; allowing just two goals per game and scoring at least five in each game?
After stomping the Los Angeles Kings 5-2 to close out a 4-game road trip, the Jets returned home on Saturday night and cranked the Colorado Avalanche 6-2 to open up a 4-game homestand that will take them to the Christmas break. The Jets were celebrating their second annual South Asian Heritage Night, and in a North American pro sports first, O' Canada was sung in Punjabi. The name "Winnipeg Jets" has always been a pillar of inclusivity in hockey; all the way back to the World Hockey Association days when the original Jets had Lars-Erik Sjoberg, Anders Hedberg and Ulf Nilsson, and other Swedish stars, help them reach new heights, to Saturday night's groundbreaking pre-game ceremony.
On the ice, the festivities started 13:56 in when Gabriel Vilardi, fresh off a 4-point game in his return to LA, picked up right where he left off, stopping a puck off a cross-ice pass with his skate and kicking it onto his stick, and firing home the icebreaker. Just under two minutes later the hosts expanded their lead on the power play courtesy of a Vladislav Namestnikov one-timer from the slot. The only goal of the second period featured Alex Iafallo, who snapped a 12-game points drought in the opening frame with an assist on Namestnikov's marker, snapping an 18-game goalless skid by firing a sweet backhander eerily similar to the one Vilardi had in the previous game. Iafallo scored his from the slot, though, at 8:43.
The final 20 was action-packed, with the visitors finally getting on the board 2:07 in with a man-advantage marker by Jonathan Drouin on a rebound off the boards. 93 seconds later, though, the Jets had the 3-goal advantage back, thanks to some quick hands in front by Vilardi for his second of the game. Just over five minutes later, Nino Niederreiter one-timed his eighth of the year- but first at home- in to give Winnipeg a 4-goal lead. The Avs got a one-timer goal back just under two minutes later courtesy of veteran defenseman Jack Johnson, the only blueliner to score in the game, but Winnipeg would still win by four, as Nikolaj Ehlers would hit double digits in goals- and an empty net- with just over two minutes left.
Avalanche goaltender Ivan Prosvetov had a night to forget, facing 24 of Winnipeg's 25 shots and stopping just 19. Connor Hellebuyck, by contrast, stopped 30 of 32, 19 of which came in the final stanza when Colorado was pushing for a comeback. Hellebuyck will be back in goal tonight when the Jets host the Montreal Canadiens, who will start Jake Allen in goal opposite Hellebuyck, to kick off "Original Six Week"; Winnipeg's three opponents before the break are three Original Six teams. It will not just be throwback opponents for the Jets; Winnipeg will also be rocking their popular Heritage Blue jerseys that were cursed last season with an awful record, but are undefeated this campaign.
A very Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays from Small Saves the Hockey Goalie.
They say it's not how you start, it's how you finish.
That perfectly applied to the Winnipeg Jets on Wednesday night in multiple facets.
The Jets pumped the Los Angeles Kings 5-2 to wrap up a 4-game American road trip 3-1-0 and ensure five wins in their last six games, but they had to erase a 2-goal first period deficit to do it. First, Kings Captain Anze Kopitar would recover a loose puck that was a result of his own shot, blocked by Dylan Samberg at the top of the crease, and fire home a man-advantage marker at 9:36 to open the scoring. Just under three minutes later, the hosts would extend their lead, as Alex Laferriere would bank a goal in off Connor Hellebuyck from behind the goal line to really put the pressure on the Jets, for whom it would take just over six minutes into the middle stanza to strike, following a Kings offensive-zone turnover.
Winnipeg's top line would bust up the ice on a 3-on-2, and Gabriel Vilardi, making his return to the City of Angels, would hit Nikolaj Ehlers on a left-to-right pass as Ehlers was moving right-to-left into the slot. The Dane would then fire home a gorgeous shot for his first of two consecutive goals. Ehlers would tie the game with just over six and a half minutes remaining in the frame; after taking another beautiful pass from Vilardi, Ehlers would turn on his famous jets, steam into the Kings' zone, and rip it off the iron and in. The road side would win it shortly thereafter, with five minutes left; Mark Scheifele grabbed a loose puck and stuffed it home on a backhand wrap-around, to hit double digits in goals.
Two more Jets goals highlighted the final 20; first, two and a half minutes in, Vilardi took a great pass and then rifled an even better backhand shot home to cap off a 4-point night in his revenge game. Scheifele would hit an empty net with 1.3 seconds left to cap off a 4-point night for another Jets forward- Ehlers- and a 3-point outing for himself. Cam Talbot faced 28 of Winnipeg's 29 shots, saving 24, while Hellebuyck was his usual solid self in goal, making 32 saves on 34 shots. He'll start again tonight, as the Jets return home to kick off a 4-game homestand before Christmas and host their annual South Asian Heritage Night, against the Colorado Avalanche, who will be starting Ivan Prosvetov in goal.
Pens win 4-3 in the longest Shootout in club history. 13 shooters deep. Harkin for the win. First 4 shooters score, then 10 more before Eller ties it with the game on the line. Then 2 more and Harkin ends it. Sid with 2g and an Apple for a 3 pt night. Pens knock 2 more PPGs home after a league worst 14 games without 1. That is 2 8n a row after dropping 4. Now 4 points separate 6 teams in the metro.
All those goals! Enjoy the latest antics of Small Saves the Hockey Goalie!
All good things must come to an end.
For the Winnipeg Jets last night, that included their undefeated streak in December- and their 4-game winning streak.
The Jets were squeaked by 2-1 by the resurgent San Jose Sharks, who have now collected at least a point in their last four games and five of their previous six, with four of those being wins, including last night. They came out absolutely flying in front of their home crowd, but Jets backup goaltender Laurent Brossoit held the fort- until 9:17 in, when Sharks forward Justin Bailey beat him off the iron and in while screened. The Jets would, by the end of the first period, however, even the shot clock- and the score- with just under four minutes left, defenseman Brenden Dillon, a former Shark, would sail one in from the point to burn his old team.
The only other goal came with just under five minutes left in the game; after the hosts were awarded a late power play, William Eklund would one-time home the decisive goal after Jets defenseman Logan Stanley- a surprise participant in the game after Winnipeg announced Nate Schmidt was coming back in, decided to go 11F-7D, and scratch Axel Jonsson-Fjallby instead- lost the puck to San Jose, and the Sharks executed some pinpoint passing. Brossoit, who was brilliant his last time out, was great again despite the loss, with 30 saves on 32 shots. San Jose's Mackenzie Blackwood was outstanding in victory, stopping 36 of 37 Jets shots.
Tonight, the Jets will play their third straight game within the State of California, as they wrap up a 4-game road trip against the Los Angeles Kings. Forwards Gabriel Vilardi and Alex Iafallo will make their returns to LA for the first time since being traded to Winnipeg for Pierre-Luc Dubois in the summer; the third forward the Jets acquired, Rasmus Kupari, is on injured reserve. Speaking of injured reserve, Kyle Connor, injured Sunday in Anaheim, was placed on it this morning, with Dominic Toninato recalled from the Manitoba Moose. On the second half of the back-to-back, Connor Hellebuyck goes back in goal tonight, likely to face Cam Talbot.
St. Louis Blues Fire Graig Berube
The St. Louis Blues have fired head coach Craig Berube.
Drew Bannister, formerly coach of the Blues' AHL affiliate Springfield Thunderbirds will take over as interim head coach, announced Blues GM Doug Armstrong in a statement on the team's official website.
The 57 year old Berube had been on the Blues' bench since 2017 and has been the team's head coach since 2019. He led the Blues to their first and only Stanley Cup championship in franchise history in 2018-19.
Berube delivered a championship to St. Louis after being named head coach mid-season and with the Blues at the bottom of the NHL's standings at the time.
The good news for the Winnipeg Jets is that they're still undefeated in December, and on a 4-game winning streak.
The bad news is that to get there, they lost one of their biggest stars- possibly for a long time.
On Sunday night, with a large portion of their fanbase unable to watch until late in the second period due to an error with the broadcast stream, the Jets mounted a late comeback to beat the host Anaheim Ducks 4-2, but the mood was somber due to an incident that took place early in the middle frame, following a scoreless first. Kyle Connor was carrying the puck in the slot when Anaheim forward Ryan Strome made a reckless play by hitting Connor knee-on-knee, sending the Jets' leading goal-scorer spiraling to the ice. Mark Scheifele immediately came to the defense of his long-time linemate, dropping the gloves with Strome on the spot.
Connor has never suffered a significant injury in his career prior to this, and this morning received what was better news than he- and Jets fans- were expecting: a 6-8 week recovery period. The Ducks, meanwhile, only lost Strome for the rest of the game- he received 5 and a game for kneeing, but faced no supplemental discipline from the NHL. Shortly after Jets fans had their TV feeds restored, they had to watch Alex Killorn put Anaheim on top on the power play, with just under four minutes left in the stanza. The rest of the game's goals would all come in the final 20, starting with the home side striking only 75 seconds into it.
After Alex Iafallo, who has been snake-bitten, hit an early post square for the visitors, the Ducks came back the other way and extended their lead, thanks to Adam Henrique. Luckily for the Jets, the first goal- or even two goals- equals not a guaranteed win, and just 43 seconds later, Vladislav Namestnikov, in his return from injury, led a great rush up the ice and fed it into the slot to Nino Niederreiter, who shot it off a Ducks' defender's skate and in five-hole to give Winnipeg life. They'd channel that into tying the game just under four minutes later; when Ilya Lyubushkin couldn't find the puck, Morgan Barron chopped it home.
With just over eight minutes left, Barron was stopped, but the rebound bounced around in front before finally catching the iron for Winnipeg's second post of the period. The Jets would, however, use a different kind of bounce to win the game. With just over a minute and a half left, Josh Morrissey whipped a point shot that Gabriel Vilardi made an unbelievable tip on to win the game for the road side. Scheifele would tally into an empty net with 28 seconds left to finish an assist shy of his second Gordie Howe Hat Trick of the season. Ducks goaltender John Gibson faced 30 of Winnipeg's 31 shots, making 27 saves in defeat.
Connor Hellebuyck would backstop Winnipeg to the gutsy, courageous win with 25 saves on 27 shots. Hellebuyck will now get the night off tonight, as the Jets continue their road trip through the state of California, visiting the San Jose Sharks. Laurent Brossoit, who was outstanding with 42 saves his last time in the crease, will start, with San Jose going with Mackenzie Blackwood. With Connor out, the Jets will bring Axel Jonsson-Fjallby back into the lineup up front, with the likelihood of a call-up from the Manitoba Moose in the near future. On defense, Nate Schmidt goes back in, with the hulking Logan Stanley coming out.
The AVS get it done but the defense needs to step up big time they have lost 5 of the last 7 games. MacKinnon is doing all he can even jack Johnson is putting in work. Tatar has been invisible Miko apparently has been beefing with leki dad who's a Finland broadcaster over some comments he made. The problem is there is no leadership out there and with landy being out it's starting to show let's hope they fix it soon.
Blues Change Lines Prior To Meeting Red Wings
St. Louis head coach Craig Berube has swapped all four lines in the hopes of creating an offensive advantage when they meet the Detroit Red Wings tonight at Enterprise Center.
The Blues will face the Red Wings who are without former forward David Perron after he was given a match penalty for a cross-check on Artem Zub during a game against Ottawa on December 9.
Perron was just handed a 6-game suspension for a hit on the back of Zub’s head.
As to the lineup change, the Blues have scored only 2.68 goals per game and allowed 3.22. Only 5 skaters have 6 or more goals so far this season.
What is keeping St. Louis in games is the play of goaltender Jordan Binnington, who has a .911 save percentage and 3.00 GAA on 628 shots.

The Texas Stars swept the Chicago Wolves this weekend in Cedar Park.
Friday’s match-up saw Texas Stars’s alum Adam Scheel in goal versus the Stars’s Matt Murray. It looked to be a good match-up as they were teammates for a few years as well as having stats that were pretty close. (Murray had more wins to losses, but their GAA and SV% were almost identical).
Highlights from Friday’s game were Alex Petrovic with two assists for the night. Scorers for the night: Borque, Stranges, Bäck, Blumel, and Karlström.
Shots: 38 Texas and 32 Chicago
Final Score: 5 -2 Texas
Saturday’s game matched Murray against Keith Kinkaid. Texas and Chicago spent most of the game score for score, but the Stars pulled ahead in the third. The Stars saw goals from eight different players: Blumel, Bäck, Caamano, McKenzie, Stranges, Reedy, Pouliot, and Karow. Chicago scores were Marino, Green, and Rocco Grimaldi with a hat trick.
Shots: Even at 34
Final Score: 8-5 Texas

After a terrific month of November, the Winnipeg Jets lost three straight to close out the calendar's eleventh month.
Don't look now, but we're double digit days into December, and the Jets are undefeated in the new month.
The Jets won their third in a row to open the final month of 2023 by going into Denver and toppling the Central Division-leading Colorado Avalanche 4-2 on Thursday night. While it appeared that the opening frame would wind up scoreless, Axel Jonsson-Fjallby forced a very late turnover in the Colorado end, and fed Captain Adam Lowry, who buried a great shot with just 2.2 seconds left in the opening stanza to break the ice. Just 32 seconds into the second period, Kyle Connor spun and sniped one to give Winnipeg a 2-goal lead- which would last just under two minutes, thanks to Avs superstar Nathan MacKinnon.
Each team would add another goal in the second following this; first, Josh Morrissey would blast home one of his patented slapshots for the eventual game-winner with just under five minutes remaining. While Joel Kiviranta would pull the hosts within one with just over 30 seconds left with a strike that had to be reviewed to count, the final 20 featured just one tally: Connor into a yawning cage with 47 seconds left for his second of the contest to lock in the victory for the visitors. Winnipeg couldn't have done it on this night without Connor Hellebuyck, who was stellar in goal with 32 saves on 34 shots by the Avalanche.
Colorado's netminder, Alexandar Georgiev, faced 27 of the Jets' 28 shots, finishing with 24 saves. Winnipeg will continue their road trip with a visit to the site of their first-ever Playoff game back in 2015, as they visit the Anaheim Ducks tonight. The Jets hope that this game won't be a repeat of anything in that 2015 Playoff series, and are likely to start Hellebuyck in goal again. The home side is expected to counter with incumbent John Gibson. While Winnipeg forward Vladislav Namestnikov recently suffered an injury that has kept him day-to-day for a week and a half, don't be surprised if he returns to the lineup tonight.
The Captain having a off year with the goals but earns career point 1500 with a PP assist.
Kuzy returns to play in his 700th game after being a healthy scratch and gets a goal in the 2nd period . Let’s hope his benching lit a fire that gets things going for the rest of the season for him .
The Winnipeg Jets are undefeated in the month of December.
They sure didn't make it easy on themselves, though.
The Jets debuted their "Forty-Eight" alternate jerseys inspired by the 1948 Royal Canadian Air Force team on Monday night- appropriately enough Canadian Armed Forces Night- and collected a 2-1 win over the Carolina Hurricanes. The way it started, though, it appeared that Carolina was going to run away with this one. The Hurricanes fired double-digit shots on goal before the Jets even recorded one- to which the Winnipeg crowd gave a sarcastic "Bronx Cheer". This quickly turned to boos, however, as the shot was taken off the shot clock. The hosts eventually did record one- and then when they got their second one, it went in.
With the crowd surely feeling silly for their negativity, Kyle Connor struck on a great pass from Nikolaj Ehlers with three minutes left in the first period. The pair would also connect at 11:39 of the middle frame, this time Ehlers scoring on a feed from Connor. Mark Scheifele would also assist on both Jets strikes. Carolina's Martin Necas would finally solve the puzzle of Jets backup goaltender Laurent Brossoit with 51 seconds left in the period, but that would be it for scoring. Brossoit, in one of the best games of his career, made 42 saves on 43 shots. Hurricanes goaltender Antti Raanta finished with just 20 saves on 22 shots.
The Jets wrapped up a 4-game homestand 2-2, and will now begin a 4-game road trip tonight visiting the Central Division-leading Colorado Avalanche. Connor Hellebuyck is expected to go back in goal, with the Avalanche expected to counter with Alexandar Georgiev. Jets forward Vladislav Namestnikov, who suffered an injury last week against the Edmonton Oilers, is expected to return soon, but probably not tonight. Winnipeg may again go with the 11F-7D setup they used on Monday, with both Declan Chisholm and Logan Stanley dressed, or else scratch one of them to bring Axel Jonsson-Fjallby back in up front.
Enjoy the latest antics of Small Saves, the Youth Hockey Goalie. :)
