Adult Autism...What exactly is it? Autism symptoms in adults tend to be most prominent in your communication skills, interests, emotional and behavioral patterns, and sensitivity to stimuli, such as noise and touch.
If you’re an adult with ASD, you might have a hard time reading social cues. You might find yourself dominating a conversation, not knowing when others become bored or uninterested.
Everyone has their own interests. But adults with ASD often focus on one or two subjects that they find highly fascinating. You may have an encyclopedic knowledge of a particular subject or interest.
While it’s often impressive to others, it may limit the amount you feel you can contribute to conversations beyond your favorite subjects. Trying to relate to people who don’t understand your interests may feel tedious or incredibly challenging. It might even lead you to avoid social interactions.

The main sign of any learning disability is when there’s a difference between a child’s academic potential and their academic performance.
You may notice signs of severe learning disorders at an early age. But parents and teachers don’t typically recognize most mild to moderate learning disorders until school age (5 and older) when challenges in schoolwork appear. And even more severe learning disorders may not be able to be diagnosed until your child is going to school.
Each type of learning disability has its own signs. But, in general, signs of learning disorders may include difficulties with:
Identifying letters, numbers, colors and/or math symbols.
Counting.
Expanding vocabulary.
Rhyming.
Sounding out words during reading.
Organizing, beginning and/or completing assignments.
Organizing thoughts to express what they want to say.
Long-term or short-term memory.
Holding a pencil correctly.
Legibility of their handwriting.
Retelling a story in sequential order.
Staying on task.
Following directions.
Coordination.
Conceptualizing, abstracting, reasoning and organizing information for problem-solving.

Can't say enough about the importance of parents being involved in their child's life and about the power of consistency in all kinds of relationships.
This year I am practicing in a new district, new school. I LOVE seeing fathers and mothers (alike) so caring, when they drop off their little ones.
I have a unique case I've been working on. Although this child comes from a disrupted family dynamic, the father has been diligent in following through as a support.
It takes a village, afterall!
Our goal has been to ensure the child is in class on time. Attempting to do some behavior modifications here 😊.
This morning I celebrated seeing her enter class on time, what a difference it makes when they start with the class.
It is in the small things that count... things I celebrate and make a big deal out of it, because it is!

The children's joke on the speaker this morning:
What did the paper tell the pencil....?
Write on!!!! 😀
The Anxious Brain
When supporting anxious young people it is important as part of empowering them that we educate them in the physical symptoms. This is especially important for those with emetophobia - a fear of being sick.
We absolutely love this powerful reminder from Dr. Gordon Neufeld. 💖
Our love for our children should be unconditional; a safe haven where they feel cherished and accepted just as they are.

All life is rhytmic. The rhythm of the natural world are embedded in our biological systems. It begins in the womb! 😉
The human brain, with all of its complex structure and function, does not just
"pop" into existence.
In the 9 months following conception, 100 billion neurons and 10 trillion glial cells are born. These cells organize, move, connect and specialize to create the amazing and functioning brain of the newborn.
