Join us for a Osteoporosis Presentation by
Lynn Thompson Gregory, CRNP
Osteoporosis/Bone Health Clinic

What puts you at a higher risk for an osteoporotic fracture?

About half of all women and a quarter of all men over age 50 will break a bone due to osteoporosis in their remaining lifetime.

If you have a fracture due to osteoporosis, your chances of having another fracture are nearly 5x as high as someone who has not had a fracture.

WHAT IS OSTEOPOROSIS?

When you have osteoporosis, that means you have low bone mineral density (called BMD, for short). This makes your bones weaker and more likely to fracture. Studies suggest that 1 in 2 women and 1 in 4 men over the age of 50 will break a bone due to osteoporosis. Fractures can lead to pain, loss of mobility, and a change in lifestyle.

According to experts, your risk is higher if you:

• Are age 65 or older

• Have a parent who had a hip fracture

• Are postmenopausal

• Have had a previous low-impact fracture

• Have a low body weight
