๐ชThe Best Shape of My Life ๐ฟ
I visited for the second time on December 20th to check in on my progress towards my body composition goals. Along with my training log I now have the records to prove that I am the strongest, leanest, and most skilled Iโve ever been in my life. Iโve lost weight (mostly fat), continued getting stronger, and taken more steps towards skills like one-arm chin ups and one-arm handstands. Iโve been able to get hereโฆโจโจโ Without tracking calories or macros
โ
Eating mindfully and keeping myself full of food and energy
Increasing my training volume slowly and sustain
I donโt care so much for aesthetics, but one arm chin ups and one arm handstands will be much easier to achieve if I weigh less. My #1 priority will always be how I feel and my relationship with myself. At no point will I ever sacrifice my mental health to โget shreddedโ or look a certain way. In the first photo, I am feeling amazing, as well as physically in the best shape of my life. No fancy lighting, no flex, and fully hydrated.
I want to prove to everyone:
โก๏ธ It is possible to look good AND feel good
โก๏ธ It is possible to lose weight WITHOUT starving yourself
โก๏ธ It is possible to achieve your fitness goals while eating intuitively/mindfully
Focus on how you feel.
Give your body, your mind, and your spirit the resources they need to thrive.
And watch what an incredible human being you grow into.
Humans are not built.
We are grown.
Cultivate the best self you can be. ๐ฟ
๐ช Thanks to the team , I am better equipt to make a personal evolution than ever before.
Iโve always recommended my students donโt focus on the number on the scale. Our overall bodyweight is not a good indication of our health. When we gain or lose weight, we donโt know if itโs muscle or fat that weโve gained/lost. Fluctuations in our weight can be misleading and hard to understand.
In pursuit of some relative-strength feats like the one arm chin up, one arm handstand, nordic hamstring curl, and more, itโs important to maintain a lean body composition while maintaining as much strength as possible. The lighter I am the easier the skills will be to achieve, but I canโt sacrifice my strength in the process! So I want to make sure that if I do lose weight, I am losing mostly fat mass.
Now, I want to take my skills to the next level. Thatโs where Body Sculpt comes in. This machine measures body composition with great accuracy and even provides insights into health-risks based on body proportions, exercise programming recommendations based on your goals, and more. When I go back in about a months time, Iโll know whether Iโve lost muscle or fat, so I can adjust my programming or stay the path.
My goals:
- Drop from 82.5 kg to 78.5 kg by January 20th
- Maintain as much muscle mass as possible
- Unlock the One Arm Chin Up and a 5 second One Arm Handstand in early 2023
My plan:
- Reduce overall calorie intake so Iโm at a small deficit (about 550 cal / day)
- Increase protein intake so I continue to grow stronger and maintain muscle mass
- Strength training 3 times a week
- Skills & movement training 3 times a week
- Increasing my daily step-count
- Good quality sleep and smart programming to ensure recovery between sessions
Iโm partnering with Body Sculpt to reach my own goals and help my students reach their goals too.

๐คท Struggling to improve your flexibility?
Save this post and read below! ๐ฉ
There are many types of stretching, so if one hasnโt worked, thereโs another that will! Below are a few effective techniques. But first, the KEYS ๐ to making them work!
๐ซ Breathing!
Keep your breathing slow and controlled. Lengthen your exhalations. This will relax the entire body, including the muscles being stretched.
๐ซ Your Face!
Stop making that โIโm holding in a ๐ฉโ face. Tension in the face, neck, or jaw will translate into tension in the rest of your body. Calm face = calm mind = calm body.
Now, apply those keys to these techniques:
1๏ธโฃ Static Stretching:
The best place to begin. This involves stretching a muscle to near its furthest point and then holding that position for at least 30 seconds or more. There is no movement or motion. It can be active or passive.
2๏ธโฃ Dynamic Stretching:
A form of active stretching. This involves making controlled, active movements that stretch the muscles to their full range of motion.
3๏ธโฃ Ballistic Stretching:
This is similar to dynamic stretching , but instead of moving a body part to the end of its range of motion you attempt to go beyond this range by using some momentum. These stretches are often a higher risk of injury, but can be effective for experienced practitioners.
4๏ธโฃ PNF (Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation): This form of stretching involves stretching a muscle to its max ROM, then using an isometric contraction (contracting the muscle without moving) of the target muscle for 6-10 seconds, then relaxing the muscle again and allowing it to stretch further.
Stretching works! It just needs to be done right!

๐ฟ A lifestyle transformation... from corporate consultant (left, 2017) to traveling movement coach (right, 2022)
And it was largely thanks to journaling!
I started journaling (near) daily in early 2017. Aside from my movement practice, it has changed my life more drastically and positively than any other practice I have to date.
How?
Without my journaling practice I would not have found the courage too...
1๏ธโฃ Quit my old job and start a business
2๏ธโฃ Spend more than a year traveling solo
3๏ธโฃ Been able to navigate through uncertain (and COVID-filled) times with relative confidence and trust in myself and the world
What my journaling practice entails:
๐๐ผ I reflect on the many things I'm grateful for
๐ง I use a series of questions that keep me in a steady and confident state of mind
๐ I reflect on my diet, my movement, and my personal philosophies and how it effects my well-being
โฅ๏ธ I spent more than a year exploring my purpose and I remind myself of it always
Doing these things consistently for a long time has created a positive feedback loop of healthy habits, behaviours, and beliefs.
I believe so strongly in the transformative power of journaling that I've decided to create a challenge that is going to focus on enabling YOU to develop a series of questions and focus points for yourself to find this same positive feedback loop through journaling and in your own life. ๐ Its been more than a year in the making! I started it before returning to Thailand, but I got caught up in new endeavours! I've finally taken the time to finish it!
It will be called
๐ฑEvolve Everyday ๐ฟ
I'll be launching the challenge very soon! Keep your eyes peeled for the launch date and the sign up links ๐ It will be 100% free to join.

๐ Gratitude ๐๐ผ
Had a great conversation recently with a friend about gratitude. It inspired me to bring back the "What are you grateful for?" posts on my stories.
To my friend and I (and many others), it's self-evident that the more we practice gratitude, the more positive things seem to come to us. Maybe it's simple psychology, maybe it's something much deeper. โจ
I've come to believe that we make our own luck. If we can think positively, speak positively, and share positive energy, naturally we fall into a positive environment and opportunities come to us with little effort. The "luck" is an illusion.
Any change outside of ourselves first comes from within.
๐ง๐ผ Practice gratitude ๐ง

๐พ Never thought I'd be a PE teacher, a personal trainer, or a yoga teacher. Here's a few facts about me you probably don't know:
1๏ธโฃ I graduated university with a bachelor's of design (I'm more the artsy-fartsy type than the jock)
2๏ธโฃ When I was a kid I wanted to be a paleontologist or marine biologist (I'm still obsessed with nature, evolution, and Jurassic Park) ๐ฆ
3๏ธโฃ My first real job was working as a Tech Design Consultant at a corporate firm
So how'd I end up teaching yoga, personal training, and physical education?
๐ Following my heart,
โ๐ป Facing my fears,
โ ๏ธ Taking risks
๐ And learning from my mistakes
And the funny thing is...
I still don't know what the f*ck I wanna do or where I want to go
I just trust that this life, this world, and the entropy that drives them are already in perfect harmony. I do my best to stay present and experience life as fully as I can. I don't want to know where I'm going, I want it to be a suprise. I'll be prepared for the worst and manifest the best.
Taking that approach to life has served me pretty well the past few years. It'll be interesting to see if it continues that way.
I am here, now.
Teaching PE, yoga, and all sorts of fun and useful stuff to people who are as interesting, crazy, and loving as I intend to be.

๐ง๐ผ Core strength is about alot more than crunches
NAULI Kriya (performed in the video) is a practice for developing control of the deep layers of the core such as the diaphragm and transverse abdominis, as well as the abdominal muscles. Simultaneously, it enhances breath awareness, retention time (holding the breath), and releases hormones into the blood stream. It really makes you feel alive!
โ ๏ธ Do not practice without the support of an experienced yoga or breathwork teacher. NAULI Kriya incorporates many other techniques which must be mastered first. Perhaps I'll make some tutorials on the prerequisite techniques ...
Is breathwork something you're interested in? Do you have a breathwork practice? Let me know in the comments below.
๐ช๐ผ Rings training is one of the most effective ways to build joint resiliency and upper body strength. (This clip was from my warm up for a OAC session).
I deeply believe rings are much more effective than weight lifting for overall upper body health (and size).
If you want a great upper body... You need look no further than gymnasts. The men and women competing in events like high bar and rings have some of the most well-built, aesthetically beautiful, and durable upper bodies on Earth (in my opinion). Why is that?
1๏ธโฃ Working on the rings takes your shoulder through its FULL RANGE OF MOTION
2๏ธโฃ Rings training hits every upper body muscle and even your core
3๏ธโฃ A lot of rings skills are straight-arm, meaning it places a demand on the joints as well as the muscles, but also forces muscles to work at their end range of motion. This is where they are typically weaker, creating an intense stimulus.
4๏ธโฃ The human body evolved hanging from trees. It needs to hang to develop fully and naturally.
I've had so many students recently with shoulder issues. There's always specific exercises and movements that need to be perform to fix the issue, but the general solution is always a bit of hanging work and taking the shoulder through its full range of motion. I usually encourage them to start basic rings training.
Are you struggling with any shoulder issues? Let me know in the comments below. Perhaps I can help.
I'm also seriously considering launching a rings training program along with a set of EV/CO branded gymnastics rings. Would you be interested?

How strange and amazing it feels to be back on this island. Itโs the only place Iโve called home outside Canada. I havenโt been able to leave my room yet, but luckily I will be able to explore the island under the program very soon (assuming my 2nd COVID test comes back negative).
It seems in the blink of an eye the whole world has changedโฆ I was last in Samui in August 2019. Since thenโฆ
I visited Malaysia, Singapore, and Bali
I found a new job
the pandemic hit
I got layed off from that job
I built a collection of tutorials that eventually became a whole new business venture and coaching practice
I fell in love
I fell out of love and into depression
I realized the love was always there (and much grander than I know what to do with except laugh)
And I created innumerable memories with family and friends
All the while, things here in Thailand have changed drastically
Itโs a whole new place Iโve come back to
A reminder that change is the only constant

Iโve been doing a lot of reading and writing - the Evolve Everyday Challenge (a month long guide to mindfulness journaling) will be released on August 20th. Stay tuned for more details ๐
This page is an extension on my journal.
is a document of my recent lifeโs journey. It began when I quit my 9-5 and jumped on a plane to visit this very island. That was 3 years ago.
Itโs as much for myself as it is anyone else.
Itโs a space for me to reflect, pour my thoughts, as well as connect with others.
Iโm so grateful for those who read and listen ๐๐๐ผ
Even more so who share their own journeys as well.

From Corporate Consultant to Traveling Wellness Coach
I believe that fulfilling lives are built on a foundation of well-being and self-discovery. I was able to discover this at a young age, thanks to some early struggles, my loving parents, and some brilliant teachers. My journey has immersed me in the practices of movement and mindfulness, allowing me to evolve and thrive at a rate that would not have been possible without the support of everyone Iโve been lucky enough to share my life with.
In my youth, I watched my father sacrifice his mental rest and time with family to grow his career and provide for my brother and I. He taught me to lift weights when I was 12, which is how I discovered my passion for movement. I would often get up at 5 am to spend more time with him and workout together in our basement.
As an early teen, I struggled with anxiety. I thought that if I were to become as successful as my father, I would have to sacrifice my mental rest as he had. When the panic attacks set in, my parents got me help from a mental health professional. He taught me breathing and meditation techniques. Eventually, the panic attacks subsided, and I discovered my 2nd passion; mindfulness.
As the years went on my physical and mental practices began to merge. I began feeling the damage I had done to my body and mind through ego-driven workouts, emotional attachments, and overthinking. I began practicing yoga postures to open my body for meditation and regain the mobility I had lost from constant computer work and excessive weight lifting (and improper form). I became more and more aware of myself, in body, mind, and spirit, as my practice deepened.
