Arvie Goes To Oregon
Parents drive a motor home from Texas to Oregon for an extended vacation to experience an adult relationship with their 36 year old son.
I will not be making any making any posts to this site!
It was a one-time trip & it is now OVER!
We have been so busy having fun, sweating during the off and on again heat waves, enjoying the local food and brews, that I haven't made a post here in 14 days!! We drove the car to Long Beach last week with Nathan at the wheel the whole time!! Barney and I sat in the back seat with Jackson and we left the driving and navigation to them and it was wonderful NOT to have to think about that and enjoy the landscapes flying by! Arivie IS for sale again (ads in the Oregonian and Gorge.Net) because we are looking at an apartment in Hood River tomorrow that sounds amazing and more rentals are starting to show up, so to NOT have to pay to store Arvie would be good.
Arvie has been a sturdy steed..delivered us here and has brilliantly hosted us with the utmost comfort and performed flawlessly everytime, he helped make this expedition so exciting & memorable. Here are some photos of late...but first I have to get off this lap top and go get my phone cause that is where ALL the photos are...
With the weather being more seasonal lately, we have been busy! We moved about 200 yds over to a more secluded spot. Our porch is in the "dug out" & makes for a cozy little outdoor area. We also have a great view of the river from our little area in the rear. Today was personal grooming day...hair, nails & Jack gets a bath. Simple pleasures...
We have been in Washington for a month now! Sitting still in the Wind Mountain resort for over a week now, but we are moving tomorrow to a new site here in the resort so we can stay as long as we want (or need to). Today we are headed to Hood River to do errands and eat at Brian's Pourhouse!! yum!
The persistant heat wave has moved East!!!!
A strong, cooler wind is blowing down the gorge today (of course THAT is exactly what the kite boarders want) plus, the Kite 4 Cancer is this weekend so high winds are a must! We had to take our awning down, for fear it would split. But other than that, we are all kicked back & looking forward to a cooler weekend that includes an antique car show and maybe some fish!!
We have been busy keeping cool the last few weeks & been a bit negligent about our roadtrip fans! Our time is up here at Wind Mountain on the 26th, so we are exploring options & enjoying our time "where ever " we are, it is our gift!
Getting used to being here...enjoying the kite boarders gliding over the top of the Columbia river while we Drive along hwy.14 to the Hood River/White Salmon toll bridge. There are less than 3 bridges in our area and this bridge scares me! It is a draw bridge & it is so narrow! So Barney captured our drive back to Washington from the groomer in Hood River..accompanied by the Moody Blues!
A cool and cloudy day...not the 100 that was predicted . So I fired up the oven and made biscuits!
Later, we took that walk across the train track bridge (trains go on & on all nite long here) and turning onto the highway, noticed the Western sky smiling back at us.
Well, we moved again...5 minutes down the mountain & within walking distance to the river. Walking on the bridge that rises high above the train tracks, the Columbia River is just steps away. We left thinking we would be back everyday for a walk, but the persistant drought & heat are keeping us confined to our small space & A/C...when we lived here in 2008, that Winter was brutally cold & wet, so now this!!
We are enjoying this journey in ways we never thought of, mostly slowing down, listening to everything and being aware.
Nice laid back day...'ol dad got to sleep in!
Baked biscuits & banana cake...visited the Stevenson market....then "back to that place we're staying at" says the 'ol dad.
Laundry got done, then we went to soak in the Carson hot springs & afterwards, they wrap you up with sheets & you rest for 25 minutes...it was so relaxing! Then we went looking for BIG MANS meat pit for pork & salmon this evening & got turned around and it was closed when we finally got there, BUT we found a new road with an amazing view of Hood River and the Columbia River.
Our evening walk with dog has a new look and I had to grab a jacket! Poison Ivy everywhere & Jack with his nose in evrrything!
Left Peach Beach (the Washington high desert..dry, hot & almost burnt up) and drove West to Carson WA to the Timberlake rv park...in the pines on mountain & closer to Hood River! All set up and ready for guests..
Fresh Fruit is everywhere! !! Cherries, peaches, apricots...yum!
Nice drive through the WA mountains
Been kicking back...enjoying the slower life that rv living grants us!
Drove West in hwy 14 yesterday...driving on the Washington side. Went to Trout Lake to check out Elk Meadows rv park...really nice. Found "Bigman" eatery...great rotisserie chicken....then home for a dessert of "blue diesel " & "blackberry kush"... mellow blend!
A lazy warm & windy day (not unusual for the wind surfing capitol of No. America!) but not hot! Went to another "despencery" today and splurged on some "mind fiesta"...ate lunch with Jorgia & Nathan in White Salmon, WA while Mt. Adams looked on. Went back to Hood River to their home and they picked Flava beans & potatoes for an upcoming snack. Drove back to Peach Beach &:saw a big grass fire. Tomorrow we visit the Maryhill Museum...just next door. SIGH...so happy to see my child!!!
The drive to Goldendale...
Went to Goldendale, WA...left many quarters and got clean clothes. It is quite a steady climb from river level, the road ascends up a Steep mountain. Then we are on top &it is farms & pastures. Stopped to get peaches from the fruit stand behind our rv park. Gotta hot date tomorrow, going to Bingen!!!
Today is MASSIVE laundry day!!!! To Goldendale....must explore!! But first..some Steep & Brew coffee...from Madison, WI...dark Guatemalan....so wonderful...expected high today??? YES!
Driving from the dalles or to Hood River or
We slept...dark, quiet...and hot with a breeze...no driving Arvie today or for many days. But I did get a car today...Enterprise brought it to me! So let the day trips begin!
The hero's journey is almost complete ...we go to Hood River tonight...eat food selected and prepared by the hands of my own flesh & blood! Whom I got a quick kiss & a hug from.
I have missed eating his curry! So I had some tonight with fresh, local veggies and fingerling potatoes. Barney made do with the shrimp & grits...sprinkled with chunks of tasso ham & a lovely piperade.
Saw Mt. Hood today...he says "HI!"
And.....we have arrived!!!!!
50 miles to go! !!!!!!!
Last night's sunset..
Sing it Stevie!
Bye bye Crane hot springs...it was wonderful!
Next stop PEACH BEACH WA!
Our first soak of the day...came back & passed out! Next soak will be a star gazer.!
