My Go-To Bar!
What is your favourite go-to-bar!? My absolute hands down favourite go to bar when I am on the run is the Lara Bar 😍..not to be EVER mistaken for Crickstart 😂
Lara Bars can be described as "a delicious gluten free blend of unsweetened fruits, nuts, and spices. Made from whole food, each indulgent flavor contains no more than 9 ingredients - minimally processed, and as close to their natural state as possible." This information is taken from their own marketing advertisement from their website..and they could not have said it better!
I LOVE Lara Bars as they have such simple, whole ingredients. They are not complex, or full of complicated filler ingredients and instead they focus on using the sweetness from dates and fruits, combined with natural spices to create simple, yet delicious bars that go perfectly with a cup of coffee or tea.
So..how minimally processed are they!? Check out the following ingredient lists a few popular flavours:
Apple Pie Bar: Dates, almonds, apples, walnuts, cinnamon, and raisins.. thats it. and it tastes JUST like APPLE PIE!
Cashew Cookies Bar: Dates and Cashews- thats IT!
Cherry Pie Bar: Dates, almonds and cherries.. YUM!
Cinnamon Roll Bar: Dates, Almonds, Raisins, Walnuts Cinnamon, & Sea Salt.. magical cinnamon bun flavour!
Now when looking at the ingredient list you may find that they are "high" in carbohydrates and "high" in fat..but guess what! This is TOTALLY ok! They are high is naturally occurring sugars from the added fruits, and high in plant based heart healthy fats from the nuts- the best of both worlds! Do not fear these sugars and fats (...if apples/bananas/grapes had a label sticker-it would be VERY similar in sugars!)
I want to know! Are you a fan of these bars!? Are there other bars that you prefer!? YUM!
My Top 3 Go-To Shops for Nutrient Dense Snacks!
Now before you read this, consider that I live in Belleville, Ontario. We are a smaller town, with limited shopping...if I am traveling and have an opportunity to go to other stores my top 3 may look different (HELLO Farm Boy, Whole Foods and Trader Joes...BAES😍)...but until I move, or they move here...
I should also mention that I LOVE grocery shopping and can easily spend hours in a grocery store- easily...
1)Bulk Barn Canada
Although The Bulk Barn is defiantly know for the extensive selection of candy, chocolate and other speciality treats, it actually also has an AMAZING health section and there are SO many great finds! From protein powders (they sell both Vega and Genuine Health) to bars (many Lara bar options!), and butters (peanut, almond, sunflower, & cashew!) there are also a great selection of kombucha, Zevia an other flavoured waters! Among the extras, there are great choices of snacks, such as coconut, dates and nuts. If you are interested in baking, you will find many different sorts of flours and ingredients (that may otherwise be difficult to find!). An added bonus of the Bulk Barn is the opportunity to try many items in a small quantity (such as a new-to-you ingredient!)
2) Independent/ Loblaws
Independent/ Loblaws has a health food section that continues to grow and provide opportunity to purchase items that may otherwise be difficult to purchase. While they do tend to be on the higher end of pricing for groceries, the natural/health section does have very comparable priced items, and often you can find items on sale! From time to time, Independent/ Loblaws will carry local health food products, which is of course great to see! For example, the Independent in Belleville carries Kombucha that is made in Prince Edward County! Independent/ Loblaws also carries some very reputable supplement brands (found in the health food isle "vitamin" section).
3) Homesense/Winner!
Homesense/ Winners is defiantly picking up their game, providing costumers more opportunities to purchase health food products and unique whole ingredients. I often pick up my coconut flakes and occasionally dried fruit/nuts and banana chips! Now I will mention that you do need to be aware of "Best Before" dates if you are considering purchasing packages items- often items will come at a reduced price at Homesense/ Winners because they are close to expiry. So be aware, but do explore! And if you see an item that you are interested in- grab it! There are limited quantities and it likely will not be there long!
Would you guys be interested in a Bulk Barn Haul where I purchase and show you all my favourites?!
Who is your motivation? Your "wow", your reason. Who is your cheerleader, the one that cheers you on with your success, and cheers you up when you fall down.
For me.. its my Mom.
It is my Mom's birthday today..and so I wanted to take a movement to reflect on what it is like to have a role model as powerful as a loving mother.
My Mom will be the first person to talk about how proud she is of me. My Mom is the first person who do whatever needs to be done to care for me- even if she goes without. My Mom is careful with words, generous with love and expressive when she feels proud about herself, but also expressive when not everything is in her favour. She has taught me so much about finding and appreciating the smaller things in life, while also recognizing that with good can come something difficult, but to embrace the challenge and lean on those you love. I am grateful that I have had my Mom to teach me this, for without this lesson every hurt would hurt so much more, and the smaller joys may otherwise go unnoticed. And with the smaller joys, my Mom has taught me to be selfless in my actions to ensure that I am the "smaller joy" for someone else, and to help others when they are down.
So find your "wow", your person that you look for guidance, inspiration and comfort. It may not be your Mom, it may be someone else in your life- but find that person and try to BE that person to someone else.
Happy Birthday, Mom! You mean the world to me.. xo Joanne McLeod
Hey, guys!! 😚
We are back at it today after taking a weekend break! Usually, I love to catch up on the weekend, but this weekend I was busy, busy introducing our new puppy to our home!
I want to introduce to you all..... Little Leo!! 🐶🐕
.and if I can draw your attention back from his cute little photo and back to reading this post...
I want to know!! What do you want to know!?!
💥Favourite Product Swap 💥- Zevia Soda! 🍾
Are you a soda drinker looking for a swap? Are you a water drinker looking for some bubbles? Are you ready to try out a new swap!?
Zevia is a zero calorie, nongmo, and colour free carbonated beverage that essentially mocks soda, but in my opinion, plays the soda game BETTER!
We all know soda is not a good choice- whether it is diet or not, it still typically contains genetically modified ingredients which can include sugar, high fructose corn syrups or aspartame, and often artificial dyes- not something that our bodies are used to, which is still undergoing studies on the negative effects on our bodies.....
Enter Zevia! Sweetened with a combination of stevia, monk fruit and erythritol (all which are natural means of sweetening), Zevia is flavoured natural sources of flavour profiles (such as ginger root, sweet cherry, citrus) and Zevia is FREE of artificial dyes.
There are SO many flavours- cola, black cherry, cream soda, lemon lime, grape, ginger ale, orange, and my personal favourite it root beer!
They can be found at Independent/Loblaws, Metro, Bulkbarn and many health food stores- they are great! If you are looking to try out just one or two (which I highly recommend!) you can grab singles at Bulk Barn!
AND if you check out there webpage, you can get a coupon for $2 off your first pack!😘😘
Does anybody else listen to Podcasts!? 🤔🤔
I like to listen to podcasts when I am out for a walk, shovelling snow, going for a long drive or cleaning up around the house!
One of my FAVOURITE podcasts is hands down “Well-Fed Women: Health-Nutrition-Fitness-Mindset” by Noelle Tarr and Stefani Ruper. This podcast combines health, nutrition, fitness, mindset and body image with humour and authenticity. The hosts are HILARIOUS and they are very knowledgable in their fields and so you definitely learn while also being very entertained!
If you listen to Podcasts- check them out! And if you are not familiar with Podcasts, I challenge you to try it out- using the Podcast App on a Apple Product just search “Well-Fed Women” or if without an Apple Product, head online and check out their website “coconutsandkettlebells.com” and there are more directions there!
I would love to know, what do you guys listen too!??
Hey, Guys!!

Scientists De-Bunk Late-Night Eating = Weight Gain Myth!!
I get this question ALOT. Should I stop eating after dinner? OR Should I stop eating after 7PM? My answer is always- are you still hungry after dinner, or after 7PM? EAT if so! I eat a bedtime snack every.single.night..and so I want to share with you some of the research defending bed time snacks. on snacks.. on snacks..
The following information is referenced from a completed study at the Oregon National Primate Research Centre- Oregon Health and Science University. This research paper explored the correlation of late-night eating and weight gain and was published in the Journal of Obesity Research February 2006- therefore very recent information!
Eating at night is no more likely to prove weight gain than eating during the day. People who eat at night are no more likely to gain weight then people who rarely eat at night.
Research does not suggest that snacking at night after eating your normal daily ration of calories is a good idea. What the research explains is that if you have not ate the caloric amount to feel satisfied, and if you have hunger cues, you can eat to feel satisfied and fulfill your hunger cues. You will not store “extra fat” because you ate that snack in the evening rather then during the day. You can expect weight gain however if you are mindlessly eating into the evening and snacking on processed calorie dense foods, rather then having a nutrient dense snack to fulfill a hunger cue and fuel your body.
I encourage you all to make a choice that it right for your body. Eat in the evening to fuel your body, do not deprive yourself and go to bed hungry based on a “myth” backed with no science. But also be realistic about this, eat throughout the day when the energy is needed, but have a snack before bed if you were unable to fuel up enough..you wouldn't NOT get gas for your car if you were on empty just because it was dark, nor would you over fill your tank because the moon was out…
Today is January 23. Today is also 22 days after Resolutions were set. Today is also the day that many people become frustrated with their lack of commitment to their resolution, and turn around and drop their resolution. How are you doing. Did you set a resolution, are you frustrated with your expectations of such goal? Don't let today get you down, don't beat yourself up, and please don't give up.
January 23 is significant because of the idea that it takes 21 days to form a habit. So where are we? What did we accomplish? But guess what! We still have 21 days to try again, pick ourself up, refocus and reflex. If a habit is formed in 21 days, then make TODAY day 1.
The last 21 days were by no means a waste of time, I bet you have had habits forming subconsciously because I know that you are a powerful person that have made choices that lead to habits that make change. You may have tried something new, helped someone out, made memories with loved one, took a minute to care for yourself, enjoyed the simple things, went out side and found fresh air, created something new, ate some vegetables and drank some water, ..These habit forming actions that are so impactful for a healthy, happy and beautiful lifestyle.
So remember when you were wondering what happened with your resolution?...You got this xo
🦗🦗Protien Bar made of Crickets!?🦗 I tired it so you don’t have to… 🤷♀️
While out and about I saw a protein bar called “Crickstart”. Crickstart is a Canadian brand that essentially uses cricket powder (….yes the jumpy little insect ground into a powder 🦗) as a protein source for the base of a flavoured protein bar. The bar advertised really nutrient dense organic ingredients - h**p, pumpkin seed butter, sunflower seed butter, dates, buckwheat, flax, coconut sugar, brown rice syrup, vanilla extract, sea salt, cinnamon, cardamom…. and well… 🦗CRICKETS🦗!! This is where I should have stopped…BUT logically I thought to myself- I eat many other animal products, and even boil down the bones of some to get the nutrients from the bone marrow- whats the difference? I also convinced my self that as I am digestibly sensitive to many other protein bars with whey, casein this would be another option for me to go to!! …. I think that if you need to argue yourself into eating something, maybe it should be a sign..but I am pretty convincing to myself. 🤨😊
And so I went a head, bought a bar (which was on sale for $1.50!! Score?!) … and… YUCK!!🤢🤮 Just no. No, no NO🙅♀️🤦♀️. There was a very dry, bland taste that was just not enjoyable, the texture was very similar to I guess pencil shavings…(not that I have ate pencil shavings!!).. and it kinda got stuck in your teeth in a weird way…which would have been ok … IF IT WASNT CRICKET LEGS!! ..alright I was exaggerating there- it was not cricket legs- it was GROUND crickets.. but SAME THING!..and incase you ever wondered, there IS a aftertaste that lingers post crickets.. and oddly enough it is not delicious.
…. SO my verdict … NO- Just NO!!!🙅♀️🙅♀️ I DO NOT recommend! Infact, YOU’RE WELCOME 🙍♀️that you will never have to wonder about this bar….
Do you every wonder about a health food that you are curious to try, but also a bit frightened? I am pretty adventurous when it comes to trying things out! Let me know what it is- you might just see it on here!
Have a great day everyone!! xo
Oh, Canada 🇨🇦... where above freezing temperatures gotcha feeling like its spring!!!
BRING ON THE WATERMELON!! 🍉🍉
4 cups water melon

1) Dice the watermelon and cucumber and combine in bowl
2) Fine chop the fresh mint leaves and add to bowl
3) Crumble feta into the bowl and mix up

YUM! This make for a very refreshing, and hydrating snack which combines sweet and salty flavours. The combination of water and cucumber adds a boost of hydration!
I want to know- what is one of your favourites when the weather warms up?!
Member Question of the Day- "What are Soba Noddles and should I use them in a stir fry!?"
This is a GREAT question! If you walk into any stores now you will see SO many different types of noodles- from white, egg, whole wheat, lentil and bean- and soba!
Soba noodles are a tradition noodle that originated from Japan. "Soba" when translated from Japanese to English is actually buckwheat!
Buckwheat noodles can actually be a great substitute to add along to vegetable dishes, such as stir fry! In comparison to other noodles such as white pasta, Soba is more nutrient dense- complete with all 8 essential amino acids (protein rich!), vitamin B1 and soba is also a good source of magnese, and fibre!
When purchasing Soba, do ensure that the brand is not a soba mix, but instead is 100% buckwheat flour- free from other preserving ingredients and fillers.
For a added kick of nutrients, mix Soba with a bright and colourful variation of vegetables!
PSA! If you have any questions that you would LOVE to see answered, just send it along and ask for a post! xo

Talk about perspective. We may not control it all, but we have the power to see the positive and find a perspective that is empowering. Take the day and make it amazing xo ❤️❤️
Have a great Friday, everyone! What do you have on the go this weekend!? xo
Please take the time to listen to this sweet little motivational speech! Be the change you want. You deserve it! You are capable of it! ❤️
Good Morning, Everyone!!
To finish up my "What I eat in the Day" started yesterday, take a look at the photos attached!
I ended up making some very nutritious choices- although my day ended up to be very busy, with a hockey game with work which ended in a late evening- I was still able to make balanced choices and enjoy myself at the game. As you can see from the popcorn picture, I obviously had some popcorn! I limited myself to a couple handfuls only, and did not go overboard- but enjoyed it just the same!
Meal 1: Smoothie and Watermelon
Meal 2: Veggie stirfry- the pictures accidentally DELETED!
🤨😫
Snack-2 Handfuls of DELICIOUS Popcorn!
Meal 3: Greek yogurt, spinach crackers (which are FULL of nutrient pack ingredients and are SO good!) and an orange!
Successful day!! How was everyones day?? I would love to hear! If it was not as great as you anticipated- today is another day with the choice to make it your best xo
Good Morning, everyone! 🤗
How about a "What I eat In a Day" post today!?
It has been a little while since I have done a post of this fashion- and I have a very busy day today and so committing to a "What I eat in A Day" will be a challenge- but one I am up for! 😎😋

🤓 Put your reading glases on and join me in reading the following article! 🤓
The attached article is a very interesting piece about "polydextrose", which is a fiber additive often found in "low-fat, sugar-reduced" chemical sh*t storms. Don't be fooled by the man made fibre found in foods that make you wonder exactly how it is "full of dietary fibre!!" ... I choose to stick to natural sources of fibre rich foods- such as whole grains, vegetables and fruits..corn (specifically popped.!) is my personal favourite!
Although we do not have enough scientific evidence to pinpoint if or how fiber additives are damaging, this may be a "yet" situation. Just because we haven't determined that it may be harmful "yet", it may only be a matter of time.. is it worth taking the risk when we have SO many harm-free options that are scientifically proven to benefit our body?
Check the article out. Educate your self, and make informed decisions xo

Don't be fooled by polydextrose and other fiber additives. I was eating Cocoa Pebbles recently for dinner (yes, I'm a bachelor) when I noticed something strange on the nutrition label. Cocoa Pebbles, according ...
😁Easy Recipe Below- Perfect for On the Go!! 😎
Hey guys! I found riced cauliflower in the freezer department of our local Freshco- and I wanted to share how I incorporated it into a quick, nutritious and delicious meal! I don't buy prepared food often, but the riced cauliflower has awesome ingredients- only vegetables! No added oils, sodium or preservatives which is AWESOME!
Cauliflower Hash and Eggs!
Simply sauté the package of rice cauliflower stove top on a non-stick pan. I then added shredded kale and spinach to the mix for some added nutrients. I added a sprinkle of sea salt, pepper and paprika. Once cooked (takes about 5 minutes on medium), I moved the cauliflower mix into a separate container off of the stove, leaving only the portion that I was going to eat for that meal. I then added my two eggs onto the pan and cooked the eggs. I plated it all, and enjoyed!
IT WAS DELICIOUS!
And..it made enough for me to have for my lunch today, along with some chicken I cooked up! WIN!
Give it a try guys, the rices cauliflower makes a great "hash" substitution, and is much quicker to cook up then potatoes! Cauliflower is also LOADED with vitamin C (more nutrient dense in vitamin C then citrus!) and folate.
I will definitely be purchasing this item again as it is a MILLION times easier to cook up then ricing your own cauliflower! 😍😘
..How may you incorporate this into your meals!?
❤️😍Everyone, my heart is SO full!! 😍❤️I had an amazing afternoon at the Quinte Bridal Show, followed by SUCH a beautiful time at Mrs. Rees' Vintage Beauty Parlour!
I loved meeting all the Brides-to-Be's, and I was mesmerized to meet so many successful women running their vendor booths- It was astonishing!
As a striving to be girl-boss, I am always looking to cheer on other women hustling and making the most of their lives- I thought it would be fun to acknowledge each week a real-life women inspiring other women day to day!
How would everyone feel about that!?
I am of course so very open to ANY suggestions (private message me your nomination, even if YOU want a shout out!) - and I also know that there are SO many very inspiring women that we have among this group!
Give this post a like if you vote "YES" for bringing each other up, and helping each other bloom 😍🤗
..PSA: Nutrition/recipe content still VERY much alive with a new one coming your way tomorrow 😜🍉🍎
Heading out the movies this afternoon.. and GUESS WHAT! Did you know that you can bring your own snack if it is a healthier alternative (...as we all know nutritious choices are lacking at the movies theatre!)
I am bringing along some delicious cinnamon apple chips, and an orange- I plan to purchase a tea at the theater!
..of course I still sneak my snack in my purse..you don't play with snacks..
What is your favourite snack!??
Have a beautiful day!!
Selfcare is not just bubble baths, treating yo' self and facemasks. Self care can be sweet, but oh so messy at the very same time.
As cliche as it may sound- self care is admitting your fears and facing it head on. I mean really getting out of your comfort zone, taking a risk and "putting yourself out there".
Taking a risk that is 50/50 in your favour, 50/50 going to crash and burn. Risks are part of self care because you care enough about yourself that IF it burns atleast you will have experienced it and can rest your head on your pillow and sigh "At least I tried". No one is going to take the risk for you, but no one is going to feel as accomplished, confident and proud when your risk turns out in your favour.
Self care is finding confidence, self care is allowing your self to take a risk for the potential of self growth ❤️❤️
💥 New (to me) Product Review!! 💥
Organics Traditions- Tumeric Late 🍵🍵
This product is an organic tumeric and coconut milk powder tea mix, similar to matcha tea powder. Simple to make, simply put a tablespoon into a mug and mix with hot (but not boiling) water- best to froth if possible!
My thoughts:
** VERY easy to make this product! I used my tea frother and found that is mixed very well, and the consistency was smooth. I like that this product has not only organic ingredients but also added probiotics and saffron!
** Taste at first was intersting. It reminded me of a very mild coconut curry; but I then added some cashew milk and stevia, which brought out a taste of cinnamon and warmth- DELICIOUS!
...WHY WOULD I DRINK THIS!! WHERE IS THE COFFEE!?!...
Reasons to Include Tumeric in your Diet! Why is Tumeric so popular!?
Tumeric contains curcumin which is a natural anti-inflammatory!
While short term inflammation supports acute injuries healing process- long term inflammation can reck havoc on our own body's tissues.
Curcumin is also a very powerful anti inflammatory, with effectiveness comparable to some anti-inflammatory pharmacy drugs, without the side effects that may come along with pharmacy drugs..
Tumeric also contains lipopolysaccharide. Its a biiiiig word but in short it a substance that when ingested helps stimulate the body’s immune system. It has antibacterial, antiviral and anti fungal agents- which all help strengthen the immune system!!
..and in the case you were not convinced..tumeric has anti-oxidant properties, so of course this leads to glowing skin!!
IN CONCLUSION- I will be including this in my morning routine!
🤓Juicing Basics 101 🤓
1) Fresh is best! 🍏🥒If you can purchase a juicer (it does not need to be fancy, or expensive!) and juice fresh from home you will produce budget friendly juices that are packed with live nutrients! Juicing from home allows you to control the ingredients and ensure there is nothing else added.
2) Make juicing part of your day, not your whole day 🕜! If you are new to juicing and you go in with the mindset that you are going to "fast"- this likely will not happen. Juice fast is hard mentally on the body as it feel emotionally very restrictive. INSTEAD make the juice part of your day- I am enjoying mine today mid-day for "lunch"! I will still have my morning smoothie, and plant-based dinner! No need to go for a juice-feast.. unless you want too!
3) Start off adding fruit to you smoothies, and slowly add in veggies! 🍏🥒🍋 I would be lying if I told you that you would LOVE a romaine lettuce, cucumber, celery orange-lemon juice. If you are new to juicing it will take some time for your pallet to adjust to the new taste of juice veggies- but its ok! You will get there, and in the meantime enjoy the sweet fruit!
I am interested! Who else juices! Would anybody be interested in juicing recipes!?
Hope you all have a great Tuesday!! xo 😘
~~Just a reminder~~
Nutrition does not need to be expensive and nutrition does not need to be complicated. Looking for a snack with "whole" "non-processed", "natural" ingredients? Keep it simple, eat fresh produce. This is a simple but delicious and budget friendly bowl of fruit- frozen cherries were on sale for $399, the oranges were a great price of $4.00/box and the strawberries were $2/5! I will get many nights of this fresh snack! Please don't get caught up feeling overwhelmed with reading nutrition labels- keep it simple!
...now if you want to get complicated, I have you covered there! Tomorrow I will share with you guys some juicing tips! xo
💥Goals!? 🤔
Do you make short-term goals to help along your long term-goals?? Long term I would love to get back into the gym lifting and hitting PR's, but I know that this week is going to be VERY busy. I could keep my goal of getting back into heavy lifts and hit PRs- BUT self-care is recognizing expectations need to be realistic... so instead..
I am going to set short-term goal of lifting any weights (even just my 10lb dumbbells) at my house for 20 minutes per day! I will raise my tempo/reps since the weights are lighter, but I will be one step closer then feeling defeated by setting unrealistic goals.
What are your goals?! Try to set a short-term that will lead you to the direction of your long-term..every.little.bit.helps! xo
😎And the count down is on to my FIRST Bridal Show as a Vendor!! 😍😍 I will be at the Quinte Bridal Show ready to support any Brides-to-Be 👰 be looking for Lifestyle Nutrition Coaching
This is a HUGE move of confidence in me and I am ready to go all in and help spread the message of nutrition as fuel and self-love!!
As I embark in this new journey- I want to thank you ALL for being here with me, reading, liking, commenting and sharing my page- It has really helped me see just what some passion and "togetherness" can bring! ONWARDS we go!!
😘
😎 Ready to BOOST your Smoothie? 😎
Smoothies can be so very versatile and are great little vehicles for carrying more nutrition into your body! Not only can you pack the punch of nutrients from the common fruits and berries that are often found in smoothies- but you can defiantly sneak in some greens, protein and supplements!
Here are a few of my favourite boosts:
1) Vega One Protein- Chocolate flavour is my favourite! When it comes to Protein poweders- there are MANY kinds that are al very benefits with competitive ingredients- find the one that you love and incorporate it!
2)Collagen Powder- Honestly you do not taste/smell/feel a texture change! I promise! Adding collagen (which is a natural fiber in the connective tissue throughout your body) is a great boost for so many reasons which I mentioned in a previous post- and remember that after the age of 25 our bodies begin to slow down in production naturally- which is why a supplement supports our bodies!
3) Maca Root & Cocoa- This awesome mixture combines the energy boosting powers of Maca (Maca is a rich source of vitamins, minerals, enzymes, amino acids).. along with a sweet taste of heart healthy cocoa!
4) Ashwaganda- A adaptogenic herb which can modulate your response to stress or a changing environment. Supportive to the adrenal glands as it aids in lowering cortisol and balancing thyroid hormones.
5) Vitamin D- Promotes calcium absorption and supports healthy immune function, and reduction of inflammation!
Go BOOST your smoothie!
.I would LOVE to know if you already do boost, what do you boost with!?
