CARBS BEFORE A RUN!? YESSSSS!⁣

I normally workout in fasting mode since I do 5 am workouts, but for my 10am run this weekend I needed a pre workout food source that would help me perform my best!⁣

So 🍠 for the win! ⁣

Why? Cause sweet potatoes build strong bodies and its a great food source to fuel your workouts or in my case my run!⁣

Did you know that sweet potatoes are a top-notch source of beta-carotene. Our bodies convert this into vitamin A, which can support immune function and eye health, promote proper cell growth, and help maintain healthy blood sugar levels. ⁣

Plus is a great complex carb that provides you with energy! And they also contain vitamin C witch helps prevent the breakdown of our muscle tissue!⁣

I cannot believe I use to be afraid of carbs and stayed away from them.⁣

Not anymore! My nutrition program has taught me to love and eat them!⁣

What's on top of it?!⁣

Pre run: I only added almond butter ⁣

Post run: I added almond butter and drizzled it with my yummy superfoods chocolate protein powder (I mix it with coconut oils) that helps me with energy, brain health and a healthy gut! ⁣

And I drank my smoothie to pair with with some greens! ⁣


PS! I feed this to my kids now instead of nutella!!! THEY LOVE IT! And win for the entire family!⁣

It’s Cinco de Mayo so I wanted to share a few recipes! And of course you can enjoy a margarita! See the comments for that recipe! 🍹

QUINOA AND BLACK BEAN SALAD

SERVES: 6 (1 cup each)
Prep Time: 15 min. Cooking Time: None

Ingredients:

1⁄2 cup canned black beans, drained, rinsed

2 cups cooked quinoa

1 cup red bell pepper, finely chopped (approx. 11⁄4 medium)

1 cup orange bell pepper, finely chopped (approx. 11⁄4 medium)

1 cup yellow bell pepper, finely chopped (approx. 11⁄4 medium)

1⁄2 cup frozen corn kernels thawed

3 Tbsp. fresh lime juice

2 tsp. red wine vinegar

2 Tbsp. olive oil

1 1/2tsp. ground cumin

1 tsp. sea salt (or Himalayan salt) and Ground
Black pepper (to taste; optional)

1 bunch fresh cilantro, finely chopped

Instructions:

1. Combine beans, quinoa, bell peppers, and corn.

2. Add lime juice, vinegar, oil, cumin, salt, and pepper (if desired).

3. Garnish with cilantro.

So I decided so make these cookie dough energy balls!! A healthier way for momma to get her cookie dough fix!⁣⁣⁣

Cookie Dough Energy Balls ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Ingredients⁣⁣⁣
½ cup all-natural almond butter⁣⁣⁣
¼ cup honey⁣⁣⁣
½ cup almonds, finely chopped⁣⁣⁣
2¼ scoops Vanilla superfoods shake powder ⁣⁣2 Tbsp. mini semi-sweet or dark chocolate chips⁣⁣⁣


Instructions⁣⁣⁣

Combine almond butter, honey, almonds, Vanilla superfoods powder, and chocolate chips in a medium bowl; mix well.⁣⁣⁣

Roll into 13 balls, about 1-inch in diameter each.⁣⁣⁣

Serve immediately, or store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to five days.⁣⁣⁣

Did you know that small bursts of movement can improve your day??!⁣

ME! All of the above is me! And I am sure I am not alone!!?⁣

Turns out that when you incorporate movement into your day, you physically feel better and your stress decreases. ⁣

Which if you work in a crazy busy work environment this would definitely help you make it through your day. ⁣

𝗪𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗵 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗲 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗮𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗿𝘆?⁣

🙆🏽‍♀️Stretch while you’re on a call - No one can see you (well unless you are on video🤣) so stand up and stretch and do some arm circles and even hamstring stretches or lunges!⁣

🤸🏽‍♂️Do ten jumping jacks to re-energize yourself - Ok, yes someone may see you if you have windows but if you need a quick way to wake up this may do the trick!⁣

🏃🏽‍♀️Walk around the office - I try to get up and walk around at least every hour. If I am stuck in meetings, I make it a point to refill my water bottle and take advantage and stretch a bit on the way.⁣

I work with a guy named Chris. Every singe Friday he sends out a positivity message to his employees and includes his coworkers.

Today’s message was fantastic and one that I wanted to share in his exact words.

Good Day Y’all – I am going to kind of follow up from last week’s message of positivity and the simplicity of things and how we tend to be distracted by our stuff. So here it goes, I hope you enjoy.

Priorities,

A family friend sent me something yesterday which kind of hits home (well not me exactly but the 400+ Facebook friends of which I am proud to be one of hers). Now this is not something new to anyone as I am sure as you breathe the air on this planet you have seen and/or heard something very similar in your time. But for some reason it just hit me like a hammer to my thumb and got my attention. A wake up call if you will (but thank goodness it wasn’t an actual hammer). I have said before we all have the same amount of time each day as any other, but it is how you spend it which makes a difference. So here is something to wrap your thoughts around….

Healthy Groceries -$100 (too expensive you say)
Dinner Date - $100 (I can do that)

Therapist - $130 (what for just talking – no way)
Trip to Target - $130 (Great deals today and no coupons!)

College class - $1,000 (I don’t need school that bad)
Smart Phone - $1,000+ (I can’t live without it)

Kids Summer Camp – $200 (They can just stay at home)
New Pair of Shoes - $200 (What a great sale – I have that one event coming up)

60 minutes of exercise – I just don’t have the time…
60 minutes of social media – OMG where did the time go?

Visiting your parents – Why do I have to go this weekend?
Binge Watching Netflix – I can’t wait to see the next season…

You all get the point here I am sure. While we all have things in our lives in which we tend to overdue (I am not stranger to this either). However, we should look at the things we underdo first. These are the events, people, happenings, experiences which make our lives meaningful and I would bet they don’t involve anything to do with pressing the “Like” button.

I would rather experience things than read about them, taste things rather than look at them, talk to people rather than (ironically) email them, and finally - share rather than take. I hope you find yourself at least once per day taking the time to smile, laugh, and perhaps cry (tears of joy). For the times of your life and in your life are completely about how you prioritize things with the same amount of time we all have. For me, at the end of my time here, I do not want one person to say anything about how much stuff I have or he was funny on social media (which I am not) but rather to just smile more than a beach has sand and say he had a great run and I am glad I knew him for however long I did.

I truly believe the world is a better place with you in it, because time well spent on memories is so much better than spending time to have stuff.

GF Banana Oat Muffins!

Greyson approves! He loved them so much he had to have two before the morning!!

Ingredients:

2 cups gluten free rolled oats

3 ripe bananas, mashed

1/4 cup almond milk

2 tablespoons pumpkin seeds

1 tablespoon unsweetened coconut flakes

2 tablespoons dark chocolate chips (mini)

1 tablespoon ground flaxseeds

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

Mix all ingredients together. Bake for 20-30 min until slightly brown on top.

Such a great snack to have on hand and one that the kids love! ⁣

Greyson even packed an extra in his lunch for his friend Aiden.

Today’s recipe:⁣

💥 1 1/4 cups of old fashioned rolled oats (gluten free)⁣

💥 1/2 cup of almond butter⁣

💥 1/3 cup of pure maple syrup ⁣

💥 3 Tbsp of mini choc chips⁣

💥 3 Tbsp of chopped raw almonds ⁣

💥 1 Tbsp of h**p seeds⁣

💥 1 Tbsp of chia seeds⁣

💥 1/2 tsp puré vanilla extract ⁣

💥 1/4 tsp sea salt⁣

❤️ 1 scoop of superfoods vanilla powder⁣

Mix it all up and place in fridge for 30-45 min!⁣

Then roll into 1 Tbsp balls 😋😋⁣

💫 Meditate daily. Nothing fancy. Just breathe and relax for a few min each morning.

💫 Do a random act of kindness over the course of the day.

💫 Exercise daily.

💫 Read at least 10 pages of a good book daily.

I won’t start with all at once but I am committing to staring one for at least three weeks, 21 days in a row. Letting it become a habit and then adding another.

Good thing I already do #5 consistently 😁

Thanksgiving is upon us and I don't know about you but I ALWAYS change into my yoga pants after stuffing myself with all the Thanksgiving yummy food. 🦃⁣

Who in your family competes for the turkey leg or who will take home the mashed potatoes? How about seconds.... how many plates do you fill up?⁣

I recently read that the average person consumes about 4,500 calories on Thanksgiving!!!😱⁣

Well this year I am here to give you some tips to try this holiday season so the bird is the only one stuffed at the end of the day. 🤣⁣

1. Eat a healthy breakfast - start you day with a healthy breakfast such as two eggs and a side of greens. You could also have your favorite superfood shake that will keep you full until its time for turkey!⁣

2. Watch your portion sizes - This is a big one! Maybe try a smaller plate this way you trick your brain to thinking you have eaten enough or if all you have is big plates, fill half the plate with salad but go easy on the dressing!! The dressing will get you!⁣

3. Go easy on the alcohol - yes I know it's the holidays.... I can still see all the bottles of wine we went through last year. 🤦🏽‍♀️ But try to limit yourself because if you get tipsy at dinner... who knows how many pieces of pie, cookies and ice cream you will eat. ⁣

4. Enjoy your favorite dishes! I love Thanksgiving! So I want to make sure to eat some of my favs, but this year I am going to make sure to only have a small scoop of the less healthy ones. Also, be sure to slow down and enjoy every bite. No need to rush!⁣

5. Get everyone involved. Ask you friends and family to bring a healthier version of your favorite Thanksgiving meals. Look up a few recipes and send it to them. If you are having a Friendsgiving dinner.... then you bring the healthy side dish. ⁣

I will be posting a few recipes in the days to come to give you some ideas. If you have some of your favorites, post them below! Let's share them with everyone in the group!⁣

And remember... Thanksgiving is time to reflect and be thankful for spending time with your love ones. ⁣

Staying Healthy at the Office

You guys, I know how difficult it is to stay healthy at work. Maybe you are in meetings all day or maybe you don't have quick access to healthy restaurants near you. Do you sit at a desk all day?

Here are some tips that combined over time I think can really lead to health improvements, especially for those of you that sit all day.

1. Take the stairs- get some free exercise by going up and down the stairs instead of using the elevators.

2. Walk around - stand up and walk around at least every hour. Use the bathroom and take advantage and refill your water bottle.

3. Sit correctly or get a stand at your desk - does your office offer stand up desks? If you can get one, try it ASAP. Sitting on your b***y all day is not good for you. And if you are sitting be sure to get a chair that has great support, your feet should rest comfortably flat on the floor and that your screen is directly in front of you.

4. Exercise at lunch time - Can you go out for a walk/run at work or maybe your work has an office gym? Go in there and workout for a quick 30 min. If work is close to home, you can walk or ride your bike to work?

5. Hang some inspirational quotes or photos - well what ya waiting for....put them all around your workspace. It's a great way to keep a positive mindset and some motivational boosts while at work!

Working full time + healthy eating can be made simple. ⁣

What has helped me-⁣

1. Mix and match: My breakfast is always a portion of protein, carbs, & veggies and my superfoods shake blend includes my fruit, veggies and what my program calls seeds and dressings. I leave my final veggie and protein for my dinner. ⁣


2. Keep it simple: I don’t go mom beast and try to make fancy meals during the week. I keep my lunches simple such as chicken, veggies and hummus to keep me on track⁣.


3. Plan and prep! So important to spend a couple of hours on Sunday in the kitchen. A few hours prepping saves me tons of stress during the week! ⁣

I am a wife and mom of 3 (a set of twins in there) that loves staying active and healthy. I moved to Austin in 1998, UT grad (Hook Em!) and have a Master’s in Healthcare Administration. I currently work full-time for a community health center organization. Originally from Houston but fell in love with Austin and my husband and I decided to call this home!

I am constantly trying to find ways to stay fit and healthy (my hubby does think I am a bit OCD about this LOL) and after the birth of my first child, getting back into shape was somewhat easy.
