Videos by Birth Trauma Association - UK. The Birth Trauma Association (BTA) was established in 2004 to support women suffering from Post Natal Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) or birth trauma
Raise funds for the BTA - completely free! 👏🏻
At the BTA, we’re almost all volunteers and we rely heavily on donations to help us carry out our work.
We also appreciate that as the cost-of-living crisis hits, it’s not easy for people to spare the funds to donate to us.
Luckily there is a really easy way to make sure we receive extra funds that won’t cost you a penny.
By using the EasyFundraising app every time you buy from a brand such as Sainsbury’s, Amazon, Marks and Spencer or John Lewis, they will make a donation to the charity of your choice.
EasyFundraising has 7,000 brands listed, including supermarkets, insurance companies and clothes retailers, so there’s a good chance that the brand you want to buy from is on there.
Once you’ve selected us as your charity of choice, all you then have to do is make sure that when you want to buy online you access their website through the EasyFundraising app or website. It’s just one extra step. The brand will then donate a percentage of your payment to us. It’s as simple as that.
You can find us on the EasyFundraising website at:

You can download the EasyFundraising from the app store at https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/easyfundraising/id915474725

At the BTA we have an incredible team of peer supporters, all of whom have been through their own traumatic births and recovered. Now they kindly volunteer to provide support via email and telephone to those who contact us. These wonderful people are the heart and soul of the BTA and give their time so altruistically to help others. Here, our amazing peer supporters, Leone/Susan/Sophie, shares what helped them after their traumatic birth. We know each person is different, but our peer supporters have all lived through birth trauma. We hope that by sharing these hints and tips, we can show you that you’re not alone, and recovery is possible. #birthtraumaawarenessweek2024 #traumaticbirth #peersupporters #tips #hints #helptorecover #womensupportingwomen
Here it is 🎥 Rachael McGarth & Maria Repanos answering your questions! Thank you to everyone who sent in a question for us. We hope the answers help 🤍 #medicalnegligence #professional #Q&A #informedconsent #birthtrauma #birthtraumaawarenessweek #raisingawareness
Scott Mair is director of Fatherhood Solutions, and also runs our monthly Zoom drop-in for dads who have experienced birth trauma. The birth of Scott’s youngest child was highly traumatic, and it looked at one point as if his wife Sarah might not survive. The experience, which left both him and Sarah with PSTSD, led to Scott working to support other fathers and campaigning to make sure the impact of postnatal PTSD on the non-birthing partner is better understood. Earlier this month Kim Thomas talked to Scott about what informed consent means for partners, and why it’s important for fathers and non-birthing mothers to advocate for their partner in the birth room. #BTAW2024 #NothingWithoutMyConsent #ExplainThenAskAgain #InformedConsent #birthtraumaawarenessweek2024 #birthtrauma #birthingpartners #dads #birthtraumafordads #raisingawareness
Professor Angie Doshani is a consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist, as well as the creator of the Janam app, a free antenatal tool that provides women with information about their pregnancy in six South Asian languages. In the UK, women who don’t speak English are 25 times more likely to die in pregnancy, birth and the postnatal period. In this video, Angie talks to Kim Thomas about why it is important for maternity professionals to seek informed consent in labour and birth in cases where the woman does not speak English as a first language – and the challenges involved. #BTAW2024 #NothingWithoutMyConsent #ExplainThenAskAgain #birthtraumaawarenessweek2024 #birthtrauma #raisingawareness #informedconsent
Donna Ockenden is a nurse, a midwife and community activist who chaired the independent review into Maternity Services at the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospitals NHS Trust in 2022, which uncovered examples of shockingly poor care. She is currently chairing the review into maternity services at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust. We were fortunate enough to be able to talk to Donna earlier this month about what we can learn about the importance of informed consent from the two inquiries, and why we must make sure that all maternity units take informed consent seriously. #BTAW2024 #NothingWithoutMyConsent #ExplainThenAskAgain #InformedConsent #birthtraumaawarenessweek #raisingawareness
We're now half way through the birth trauma inquiry - yesterday saw some very moving and powerful testimony from women about difficulty accessing mental health services after a traumatic birth. Here you can watch Theo Clarke talk about why it's so important to hold an inquiry into birth trauma.
This Black Friday, and in the run up to Christmas, you may be doing some more online shopping than usual. Please could you consider downloading the Easyfundraising app (there’s a video guide here) and adding the BTA as your cause. In the few months I’ve had the app, with nothing more than a single click, I’ve raised almost £33 for the BTA. We’re an almost entirely volunteer led organisation, we are in receipt of no funding - this means we are reliant on grants and donations to keep going. We have over 14,000 followers on this page, imagine if we all signed up! You can make a huge difference and please help us to support more parents impacted by traumatic childbirth. Thank you 🙏🏻🥰. #parentshelpingparents #perinatalmentalhealth #PTSD #birthtrauma #maternity #traumaticbirth #peersupport #BirthTraumaAssociation #newparent #mentalhealth #recovery #traumainformed #postnatalptsd #BTA
