Public Preps Parks Priorities Pick up more litter, clean the bathrooms better, and designate more point people to deal with public park concerns. Those are some of the top priorities New Haveners have for their city’s green spaces, as…
UPDATE:
The winter hours for working at Fairmont Park will be every Wednesday 2-4 pm. We will continue working on removing the invasive plants that grow so thick in the forest that they prevent the native plants in the understory from growing. They also prevent the next generation of trees from coming in. By removing these invasives, we will give the forest a chance to become healthier and regenerate. Come out and join us any Wednesday that you can.
The playground/splashpad is expected to be installed Spring 2024. We hope to plant some trees to provide shade for it. The water from the splash pad will be diverted to a rain garden. For our summer project with URI, we will plant native shrubs and flowers that will benefit wildlife and will thrive in those conditions. We hope you will join us in the summer.
This winter we hope that Annie, the City tree person, will join us one Wednesday to have a conversation about our forest. I will let you know what day.
In January or February, we plan to have a community meeting with Trust for Public Land to discuss possible ways to link trails in Fair Haven Heights, using conservation easements and land preservation. There are ongoing discussions about developing a network of trails linking Quarry Park, Fairmont Park, Quinnipiac Meadows Nature Preserve, Hemingway Creek, the Old Dwyer Farm, Alling Memorial Golf Course, the Enchanted Forest, and the Hidden Forest, all in our neighborhood. If you would like to be part of this planning, let us know.
Come out and enjoy Fairmont Park.

The photo below is seeds from the native euonymus that grows in Fairmont Park. It grows near the big black walnut near the stone steps. In the spring it has gorgeous red blossoms. I am going to attempt to grow some shrubs from these seeds. It is related to the invasive burning bush that we are removing in the park but does spread like the invasive one. -- Sylvia D.
We will work in Fairmont Park on the 5th Thursday in November, November 30, 2-4 pm. We will walk through the forest to look at the Norway Maple situation and begin discussions of our capacity to plant and water additional trees in the future.
Beginning in December, we will go back to every Wednesday, 2-4 pm, for the winter.
Check out this great news! 👏👏
