CAMBA in conjunction with OMBA - Ohio Mountain Bike Alliance , Ohio Trails Partnership and Rails-to-Trails Conservancy are asking you to help us urge the Ohio state senate to fund the Ohio Trails Vision.

In 2019 Ohio released Ohio Trails Vision, a statewide plan to make Ohio a great trail state. But real funding is needed to make that vision a reality.

Right now, state senators are working on a budget bill, and with it comes an opportunity to put funding behind the Ohio Trails Vision—and they need to hear from you by April 12.

As part of the Ohio Trails Partnership, RTC and our partners at The Buckeye Trail, Ohio Horseman's Council, Ohio Mountain Bike Alliance and the American Canoe Association, have asked the state legislature to commit $15 million to jumpstart the implementation of the state trails plan.

Top level priorities include:

Economic Impact Study of Ohio’s existing trails
Dedicated funding for trail maintenance on both terrestrial and water trails
Provide required match money for underserved/distressed urban and rural communities to better access existing funding streams
Provide technical assistance funding and pre-design work for projects setting them up for accessing existing construction funding programs
These projects will benefit communities large and small across the state by promoting, creating, connecting and maintaining trails in the Buckeye State.

CAMBA is looking for help from our membership. We are looking to add additional board members and to fill our committees. The committees meet 4-6x per year and are a great way for those with a particular interest or skill set to volunteer and help the local mountain biking community. For example, if you are a graphic designer, it would be great to have you as part of our Communications Committee to assist with projects. The meetings are a mix of in person and virtual, so anyone can get involved no matter where you live in the region.

Board members are required to participate in one committee and attend our board meetings that focus on setting the direction of CAMBA, approving budgets, and filling in other areas not covered by a committee.

Trails Committee: Focuses on building and maintaining trails. This includes recommendations to CAMBA’s board on annual projects and the budget allocation to each trail in the region. Meets approximately 4x per year, largely virtual or as needed during the busy season. Plans volunteer day days and coordinates with the Communications Committee to promote.

Communications Committee: Focuses on email, social media, and other communications with CAMBA members and the greater mountain biking community. This includes but is not limited to our quarterly newsletter, promoting events on social media, and developing marketing or other materials for CAMBA. Meets approximately 4x per year or as needed.

Membership Committee: Focuses on engaging and adding members. This includes creating the group ride schedule, coordinating the spring/fall campouts, and other events like our annual winter social, and coordination for the race team. Meets approximately 4-6x per year or as needed.

Dirt Craft will be at the July 11 CAMBA group ride at Austin Badger around 5:00pm to set up and get prepped for anybody who would like to swing through for a complimentary basic suspension setup (this will be an abbreviated version of the DC full suspension setup that we offer in order to make time for as many people as possible).

For all who would like to attend Aaron Graber will spend some time before the ride starts and will stick around during/after the ride to cover as many people as possible as well. I will have printed setup guides to hand out and I'll be on-site to help individuals make basic adjustments to their suspension and find a good baseline setting with their current components. Stop by and ask any questions that you might have about suspension or whole-bike setup. I will also be able to assist in minor mechanical repairs/tuning for those who might need it (as time allows).

All setup activities will be free to those in attendance. Spare parts are available for purchase and suspension components can be ordered on-site if you've been thinking about upgrades.

Small donations to CAMBA are welcome if you feel compelled 🙂

Membership has grown from 442 to 454 members in May during the spring drive. We know we have more people that ride the trails than the 454 members. Last year we spent over $33,000 and memberships contributed just $17,000. Membership numbers are also increasingly important as part of statewide trail advocacy.

CAMBA recently received $680 in donations in memoriam of the late Mike Johnson. Mike was a member of CAMBA and had a life long passion for mountain biking. Thank you to Mike and his family and friends for their generous support of CAMBA and our local trails. We offer our sincere condolences to his family and friends at this difficult time. Attention Ohio mountain bikers and outdoor enthusiasts, with the Ohio legislature in full-swing, a promising budget package has undergone drastic cuts that could negatively impact access to outdoor recreation spaces and momentum toward building more trails in Ohio. These proposed budget cuts have the potential to reduce Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) law enforcement and cause partial and complete closures of some state parks, state forests and other outdoor recreation amenities for mountain bikers, hikers, anglers, hunters, campers, and all outdoor enthusiasts.

Momentum for trail building and outdoor resource protection and access may be severely limited if the proposed cuts to the ODNR budget are not restored to “as introduced” levels. Additional funds for studying economic impact in the TourismOhio budget are also critical.

The Ohio Mountain Bike Alliance (representing twelve mountain bike and trail organizations across the state including CAMBA) and the Ohio Trails Partnership (advocates for horse, bike, paved, off-road, and water recreation) have come together in the statehouse to oppose the proposed budget cuts, and are asking for your help. Input from the mountain biking and outdoor recreation community can help change the course of this drastic proposed budget reduction while protecting wildlife habitat, state parks and forests, and other natural resources.

Mountain bikers and outdoor enthusiasts who live in Ohio are encouraged to show support by opposing the budget changes and submitting comments, sending letters, and/or calling your legislators on the Finance and Agriculture & Natural Resources committees by June 6th.
