We are so thrilled to once again be working with intimacy director Lisa LaGrande (she/her) on TWELFTH NIGHT along with our intimacy captains from the cast, Nazlah Black (they/them) and Rachel Weekley (they/them)!
Says Lisa, “Working on this production of Twelfth Night has been such a wonderful challenge and journey. This play explores so much about how we deal with grief and how we connect with each other. It explores what it means to open your heart; whether that be to heal old wounds, to reconnect with those we love, or to allow ourselves to be vulnerable, to be seen, and welcome the promise of something new. Working with this cast to build these beautiful Q***r relationships in a way that is safe, fun, and powerful for everyone has been such a delight. These actors have poured their hearts into these stories and I am honored to help them navigate these deep emotions and heartfelt connections to tell a story that is honest, real, and so meaningful. I hope you join us.”

To our M:L community,
It is with profound sadness and deep regret that I must announce that our 2022 Mainstage Production of Henry V will be postponed for dates later this year, to be determined. In light of recent news from the creative team and cast, I have decided that to proceed with this project on its current timeline would have had an adverse effect on too many involved, and such a one is not a producing environment I am willing to stand behind.
Making theater is an incredibly difficult job; I am so lucky to know so many that will join me in proceeding with care, kindness, and respect (amid the inevitable stress!) when we put on a show. And I have full faith that this team will come together again after some time and some much-needed rest to restore such a beautiful piece to its full integrity. Out of respect for those involved, I do ask that they be left to process this very-recent news on their own time.
I look forward to seeing many of you at our production of Twelfth Night this month - Henry's goofy, gay partner in crime - and if you are unable to make it out, we know we will see you very soon, and look forward to the day.
Wishing you all the very best,
Kristin Sgarro, Artistic Director

We’ve missed being able to be on stage together so much, that we decided to do two shows for our main stage season instead of just one! First up, HENRY V directed by Bobbie Lowe! Tickets go on sale starting January 28th.

On this , we can’t help but feel extremely grateful for how far we’ve come. After a successful Round 4 of BARDcore, we are deep in preparations for our most ambitious mainstage season yet! We are incredibly excited to present HENRY V and TWELFTH NIGHT, performing in rotation this February at the Westbeth Community Room—twice the stories told, twice the opportunities, twice the company!

We started rehearsals this week for the final BC of Round 4 - MIDSUMMER! For this show, we have a double whammy of not one director, but two! Meet director Victoria M. Fragnito and A.D. Bobbie Lowe!
“MIDSUMMER has a special place in my heart and I am so excited to tackle this piece. For me, this show is the perfect formula for BARDcore. There is so much fun, hilarity, magic, and wildness, you can’t help but lose yourself in the forest with the rest of the characters.”
“I’m very excited to work with Shakespeare’s text alongside other LGBTQIA artists. This will be my first Match: Lit show and am thrilled to be working under the leadership of Victoria.”

We just jumped into our first rehearsals for our last BC of Round 4 and we couldn’t do it without the help of intimacy director Lisa LaGrande! You may recognize her from BARDcore’s past (JULIUS CAESAR, CYMBELINE). She has been lending a hand to the Round 4 BC shows and we couldn’t be more grateful to work with her!
“Bringing Intimacy Direction into the Bardcore process has been such a wonderful exploration and learning opportunity for all of our casts and creative teams. By striving to develop consent based practices in the rehearsal room, we build a deep sense of trust and open communication that allows for true moments of magic to happen on stage. We give each other a little grace, knowing what 2020 was for each of us and that, for some, this may be our first return to indoor theatre. It is my goal to remind these actors, our directors, and even you, our audience, that our voices and feelings matter. We must take care of each other, check in, and make adjustments as needed for all of us are still finding our way. We meet each other where we are, where our boundaries are, and we allow ourselves to share what we need most to do our best work. These actors have come together to tell a beautiful story, it is my privilege to make sure they are able to do so in a way that is safe, consensual, and fun for everyone involved. “
