Mills Pond Elementary’s second consecutive Multicultural Night celebrated the rich cultures and ethnicities of the school community. Twenty countries were represented in the World Showcase and Cultural Talent and Fashion Show featuring Mills Pond Elementary School students and High School East World Language students.

Attendees travelled around the World Showcase and learned about the different countries such as Armenia, Colombia, Greece, Tajikistan and Turkey at interactive country board presentations created by students. They created a craft or participated in a
language activity and immersed themselves in the culture. Student performers shined during the Cultural Talent and Fashion Show from performances with the Chinese devil sticks, Armenian song and ethnic dances. Parents introduced their child dressed in attire native to their country and shared information about the outfits during the Cultural Fashion Show.

There were outside organizations who shared their talents and culture that evening. An exciting performance by Ryu Shu Taiko: Drums of Japan opened the event. The Stony Brook Chinese School Dancers performed two beautiful traditional Chinese dances in traditional clothing. The Jeevedhara School of Dance dazzled the audience with a classical Indian dance wearing traditional Indian dresses. The St. Paraskevi Greek School dance performances several energetic Greek dances. Musician and author Johnny Cuomo, closed out the event with a fun interactive multicultural music performance.

Ethnic food trucks American Wonton and Eatcetera provided delicious ethnic cuisines and kids earned a free ice cream cone from Mr. Softee courtesy of the PTA when they received a stamp from each country in their passport.

This event would not have been possible without the support of Principal, Ireen Westrack, World Language Director Vincenza Graham, World Language teacher, Clara Antunes, Music Teacher, Stephanie Messana, and the MPE PTA board, security guards and custodian crew. Multicultural Night was sponsored by the Mills Pond Elementary PTA and organized by Mills Pond PTA parent, Wan Ling Fahrer.

Join us for our 2nd Annual Multicultural Night on Thursday, May 16 from 6-8pm! Travel around the World Showcase with your passport and learn about over 15 countries from students and families! Earn a free ice cream cone from the PTA after you complete your travels! Participate in fun activities by HSE World Language students and be wowed by the student Cultural Fashion and Talent show! It will all kick off with an exciting Japanese drum performance by Ryu Shukan promptly at 6pm. There will also be ethnic dance and music performances from The St. Paraskevi Greek School, Center for Chinese Learning at Stony Brook and Bollywood Dancers. You won’t want to miss the Interactive multicultural storytelling & music performance by

🌸Yesterday our wonderful staff enjoyed fresh pretzels from Philly Pretzel Factory in Smithtown and popcorn generously donated by our MPE families. Today, a delicious Italian lunch generously donated by O Sole Mio in Stony Brook. Thank you to these two wonderful businesses for helping us be able to spoil our incredible staff members!🌸

🌸Our staff is Truly Sunsational!🌸 Staff Appreciation Week kicked off with bagels from the wonderful and generous people over at Beans Bagels in Saint James. Once again, thank you to our wonderful and generous MPE families. Without you, this would not be possible. Special shoutout to Brandon Solomon for chairing this event. Allison Petite for kindly gathering donations for raffles. And a huge thank you to our decorating committee: Kristen Steigele, Stephanie Schumacher, and Jen Solomon. Teamwork makes the dream work!

Today was all about spreading the plant love! Our students got to choose a plant for an adult they love during school hours.

Kudos to Brooke Steinmann and our amazing parent volunteers for making it possible.

David Ira Rottenberg, the author of the “Gwendolyn” series will be visiting our K-3 students on Friday 3/15. This visit is extra special since it will also include a special ballet performance by The Eglevsky Ballet school.
