We support Thatcher Kezer because he is a skilled and innovative leader in local government. During his tenure as Mayor of Amesbury he has accomplished the following:
• Secured over $33 million of state and federal funded construction projects in Amesbury, bringing improvements and jobs.
• Grew the commercial and industrial tax base from 11% to 13% with more growth to come, taking the pressure of
f of future residential taxes.
• Cut spending. He negotiated $880,000 in reduced health costs by working with the unions for health insurance changes twice in three years. He reduced trash and recycling costs by $115,000. He generated $240,000 in savings through regionalization of dispatch operations and $100,000 a year through regionalized health services. His city budget held to a 0.4% increase while meeting all obligations for delivering city services.
• Invested in fiscal stability by increasing Stabilization Fund from $25,000 to over $1 million resulting in bond rating from A- to A.
• Increased Amesbury’s investment in schools by $5.4 million over the past five years to respond to the decrease in state and federal education funding.
• Successfully regionalized services such as health inspections, emergency dispatch, energy efficiency consultants, trash and recycling pickup, bringing improved productivity and significant cost savings. Led monthly meetings of the Boston-area regional coalition of mayors and town managers, who work together to provide services more cost-effectively by sharing resources and benchmarking best practices.
• Developed a productive and cooperative relationship with the Amesbury City Council.
• Has demonstrated a willing to make tough decisions that have had a positive impact on Amesbury’s financial stability.
