Simulation Instructor Course -The MPROvE Academy 26/03/2024

Dear Colleagues

We now have the neonatal simulation instructor course dates for the 25th and 26th of June 2024, to be held in the UK. We would be grateful if you could share them with any colleagues, trainees, and nurses who might be interested.

Course Overview

Neonatologists and experts in simulation education established the MPROvE neonatal instructor training course. The course helps train individuals to become simulation instructors, but the aim is the faculty development of multidisciplinary teams. Training provided includes learning how to develop faculty, run and administer programmes cost-effectively and use simulation and TEL as a tool in their set-up.

The course addresses the following over two days-

• Educational principles in simulation, Adult learning theory,

• Modelling delivery of your simulation programme

• Scenario design, Packaging of Scenarios, Manikin Modification and Moulage

• Debriefing principles, Debriefing styles, Difficult Debriefing

• Running high-fidelity simulation and equipment training

• Issues of confidentiality and ethics

• Simulating death

The course also provides a platform for those wanting to gain accreditation with ASPIH or SSH (CHSE exam)

Registration-Further information can be accessed through www.mproveacademy.com

I've attached the details of the tentative programme below.

Simulation Instructor Course and Symposium International Chapter Middle East

Venue Abu Dhabi UAE

Dates 26th and 27th October 2024

Background

Maintaining a comprehensive approach to healthcare emergency preparedness is at the forefront of departments in Paediatrics and Neonatology across the Middle East. One of the key components is to build a competent, skilled, and compassionate healthcare workforce through inter-professional education and training in patient safety. Simulation-based training plays a pivotal role in quality improvement and patient safety. Although simulation training has been in practice in other industries, such as aviation, for a long time, healthcare professionals are still learning to implement this teaching modality to help MPROvE patient outcomes, patient safety and Quality of Care.

Advanced Simulation Instructor Training

One of the most important prerequisites for simulation training is trained faculty. There is an abundance of medical faculties across the Middle East wanting higher skills in simulation-based education. Therefore, MPROvE academy has taken the initiative to introduce this “Training the Trainer programme” to healthcare professionals who are already medical teachers and experienced clinicians.

Since 2012 we have trained and run simulation courses for thousands of clinicians, nurses, RTs and health care practitioners. This course helps to train individuals to become simulation facilitators, but the aim is the faculty development of multidisciplinary teams. Our program offers comprehensive training about simulation-based methodology in running simulations, debriefing, and advanced principles that make it a modality of improving staff performance and patient outcomes. Training includes learning how to develop faculty, run and administer programmes cost-effectively and use simulation and technology-enhanced learning as a tool in their set-up.

Modules

The MPROvE team delivers the simulation instructor course in 2 modules.

Module 1 - The module includes a two-day face-to-face interactive workshop. It comprises a series of interactive lectures, demonstrations and opportunities to practice the skills needed to become a simulation facilitator.

Module 2: This module is a 12-week mentored online session to refine the skills further. This also helps to obtain certification as a simulation facilitator and trainer. We assure you that you will become a trained facilitator with the required competencies to conduct/ train/ teach at your institutes with confidence.

We strongly recommend the programme to all the teachers/trainers/faculty in healthcare to further enhance their overall training skills, mainly focusing on translational learning through simulation.

Module 1 introduces participants to simulation and debriefing in neonatology and Paediatrics

Module 2 enables advanced practice, formal accreditation of skills and formal certification

Dear Colleagues,
Maintaining a comprehensive approach to healthcare emergency preparedness is at the forefront of the Department of Health’s priorities. One of the key components is to build a competent, skilled, and compassionate healthcare workforce through inter-professional education and training in patient safety. Simulation-based training plays a pivotal role in quality improvement and patient safety. Importantly, the role of simulation is not limited to training health care professionals; it has the potential to act as an excellent tool for systems and facility changes, which in turn improves patient safety and outcomes.

It is a well-established training modality across America and Europe, whereas in Asian countries, including the UAE, the simulation-based training is patchy and variable. Although simulation training has been in practice in other industries, such as aviation, for a long time, healthcare professionals still have not fully adopted this teaching modality.

One of the most important prerequisites for simulation training is trained faculty. There is an abundance of medical faculties across the UAE, but not many are trained in simulation-based education. Therefore, MPROvE academy has taken the initiative to introduce this “Training the Trainer programme” to healthcare professionals who are already medical teachers and experienced clinicians.
The MPROvE neonatal simulation instructor course was established in the UK in 2012. The concept of MPROvE relates to multidisciplinary education to improve the quality of care and/or patient outcomes. The intention is to help institutions, hospitals, and teams develop faculty skilled in using simulation and technology-enhanced learning as an educational tool for quality improvement, delivery of high-quality neonatal care, and to improve neonatal outcomes.

The MPROvE instructor training course was established by Neonatologists and experts in simulation education. Our faculty has international credentials and vast experience in simulation-based education and learning. The course helps to train individuals to become simulation facilitators, but the aim is the faculty development of multidisciplinary teams. Our programme offers comprehensive training about simulation-based methodology in teaching, learning and its principles. Training includes learning how to develop faculty, run and administer programmes cost-effectively and use simulation and technology-enhanced learning as a tool in their set-up.

Dear Colleagues

We are running an online neonatal Lung US course from January 2024 for 12 weeks.
The beauty of the course is that you can do it at your own pace and in your own time as you please. Course details are as follows.

Course Duration
The course will be run over three months, starting on January 15th and rounding off at the end of March. We will mentor a small group of candidates through the course, combining online teaching, workshops, and interactive discussions.
The course covers LUS in 3 modules over three months
1. The Normal Lung
2. Lung Pathology
3. Clinical Correlation Diagnosis and Clinical Approach

Structure
Sessions will be organised weekly to cover a fixed curriculum shared below. Our faculty is diverse, including colleagues from the UK, France, Spain, Canada and India. The material can be accessed online on the site, watched by video live, or in your own time. An overview of the course is on this link and figure below-

Commitment
The commitment is 60-90 minutes a week for the course period, which will be on a scheduled day of the week that will be sent by December. If you cannot attend the live sessions, then the topic will be shared with you online for your review.
Each session will include time for you to share your cases for online critique, and this is held after the teaching is complete. We will supply you with a logbook to keep your images.

MCQ and Accreditation
For those of you who would like accreditation via the course, it is mandatory that you have access to a US machine and can share cases and images in an anonymised way. We will teach you how to do that. At the end of the course, you must take an online exam with a passing mark, which will review the three core parts of the curriculum as outlined above. The testing can be done anytime within the first six months after the module starts.
