Purple! Violet! Indigo! Periwinkle! Lavender! Who else loves purple to the point of wanting to consume it? Just saying these color names make my mouth water...that was until I recently learned of some old ways of harvesting & producing certain shades of purple. ⠀
In the past, the color was highly sought after and so difficult to produce, that people were experimenting with various ways to create the pigment. How about this technique from the 15th Century BC to create "Tyrian Purple, the world's finest purple": Crack open the shell of a particular type of shellfish from the Mediterranean. Squeeze it until one single drop of garlicky smelling liquid squirts out. Wait for the sun to change it from yellow to green to blue then to dark purple-red. Mix with another particular shellfish fluid for the ideal shade, then place in a fermenting vat of stale urine in order to help it adhere to cloth. 250,000 of these shellfish were needed to produce 1oz of this dye, so this is why purple began to represent the royal. Cultures from around the world made a killing trading it across their regions and for this reason, a counterfeit type of indigo was also made from pigeon dung. Gross or interesting or both? I still love purple.⠀

Deep purple: Associated with spirituality, fulfillment, royalty, luxury, power, ambition, creativity, wisdom, dignity, peace, pride, mystery, independence, and magic.⠀

Light purple: Feminine energy, bringing about romantic and nostalgic feelings. Is graceful, delicate, precious, suggests uniqueness and specialness. Does not hold the same mystery as dark purple. 🦄💜☪️☂️🔮🙆🏽‍♀️🍆👾🧕🏽

Did you know that memories are quite malleable? Even the details that you *swear* are fact might, actually, be wrong. It can be kind of scary to think that the fine details of our lives might not have really happened as we remember them. ⠀⠀
