Drumroll please! 🥁🥁🥁Please join the 2023-2024 Meshuganotes for the 2nd annual MESHUGANOTES CABARET FUNDRAISER!! 🎤🎹🥳 Tune in as all of our amazing members show off their brillliant musical talent and sing a song (or two!) they love! Genres range from pop punk to show tunes! We will be performing THIS FRIDAY 11/17 in the Baker Hall West PSPACE! Doors open at 6:30pm and the show will begin at 7pm! There is a $2 suggested donation for viewing the show whether over Zoom or in-person, with drinks and cookies provided to in-person attendees! Venmo is -hackley. Hey everyone! This year we are breaking down our group introductions into three different categories, for our new members, for our returning seniors, and for our returning non seniors. Welcome to the final !!! Today we are introducing one of our amazing returning members, the queen behind the socials (maybe I’m just saying that cause I’m writing the post), Hannah Light!!! Hi everyone!! I’m the face behind the social media accounts! Hannah is a junior studying Social Work from Beachwood, Ohio. Her favorite color is pink and if she was a vegetable, she would be a cucumber. A fun fact about Hannah is she got an out during a softball game from the bench. When Hannah was little, she wanted to be the tooth fairy, but now she wants to be a child life specialist. Little Hannah had big dreams! Hannah is our publicity chair and does all of our socials for us! We can’t wait for another amazing year with Hannah! And with Hannah comes the mascot of Shugs, the MeshugaDog, Lassiter! Lassiter is a 16 month old golden doodle who is a service dog in training. This is his second year in Shugs and he LOVES being with all of his Shuggie pals! We are so excited for another amazing year with Lassiter!

Welcome to the final !!! Today we are introducing one of our amazing new members, Michaela Liptak!!! Michaela is a junior studying science and entomology with a minor and dance and she is from Kent, Ohio. Her favorite color is green and if she were a vegetable, she would be a zucchini. A fun fact about Michaela is she worked for NASA two summers ago. When Michaela was little, she wanted to be a paleontologist , and now she wants to do something that makes her happy. Isn’t that just amazing!! We are so excited to welcome Michaela to the soprano section and can’t wait for an amazing year!!!

Welcome to the fourth !!! Today we are introducing one of our amazing returning members, Nicolas Xu!!! Nicolas is a junior studying Chemistry from Lewis Center, Ohio. His favorite color is black and if he was a vegetable, he would be a potato. A fun fact about Nicolas is he plays the flute. Nicolas has no idea what he wanted to be when he was little, but now he wants to be a chemist. What do you think little Nicolas wanted to be? We can’t wait for another year with Nicolas!

Welcome to the fourth !!! Today we are introducing one of our amazing new members, Alex Yang!!! Alex is a freshman studying science and math education from Ellicott City, Maryland. His favorite color is blue and if he were a vegetable, he would be thyme. A fun fact about Alex is he used to play piano. When Alex was little, he wanted to play video games when he got older, and now he wants to be a teacher. Maybe he could combine those passions and teach video games! We are so excited to welcome Alex to the tenor section and can’t wait for an amazing year!!!

Welcome to the third !!! Today we are introducing one of our amazing returning members, Jake Kamen!!! Jake is a sophomore studying physics and astronomy with a minor in history. He is from Chicago, Illinois and if he was a vegetable, he would be broccoli. A fun fact about Jake is his favorite book is Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. When Jake was little, he wanted to do science when he grew up (whatever that may be, says Jake), and now he wants to be a professor and researcher. Maybe one day Professor Kamen will work at OSU! Jake is our shugs music director! We can’t wait for another year with Jake!

Welcome to the third !!! Today we are introducing one of our amazing new members, Caroline Kronenfeld!!! Caroline is a freshman studying operations management with a minor in Chinese. She is from Long Island, New York and her favorite color is pink. If she was a vegetable, she would be a Persian cucumber. A fun fact about Caroline is that she has a really cute chubby gerbil. When Caroline was little, she wanted to be a princess rockstar, and now she wants to be a lawyer. Living out her rockstar dreams in Shugs! We are so excited to welcome Caroline alto section and can’t wait for an amazing year!!!

Welcome to the second !!! Today we are introducing one of our amazing returning members, Sarah London!!! Sarah is a sophomore studying neuroscience from Aurora, Ohio. Her favorite color is pink and if she was a vegetable, she would be a purple carrot. A fun fact about Sarah is she has a 400+ day streak on Duolingo! When Sarah was little, she wanted to be an author, and now she wants to be a pediatric neurologist. Sarah with the big, smart brain is going to work on brains!! How crazy is that?! Sarah is our shugs treasurer!! We can’t wait for another amazing year with Sarah!

Hey everyone! This year we are breaking down our group introductions into three different categories, for our new members, for our returning seniors, and for our returning non seniors. Welcome to the second !!! Today we are introducing one of our amazing seniors, Ren Hackley!!! Ren is a senior (obviously) studying social work and psychology with a minor in child abuse and neglect. Ren is from Kent, Ohio and their favorite color is lavender. If they were a vegetable, they would be a bell pepper because they are colorful and sweet! A fun fact about Ren is a they are a fraternal twin and they have been skydiving. When Ren was little, they wanted to be a teacher on weekdays, a veterinarian on the weekends, and a famous popstar at nights and now they want to make a positive impact in communities and help people who struggle with substance abuse. That is truly incredible, isn’t it!! Ren is our amazing shugs president!! They are also the social media chair for Buckeyes for Harm Reduction. We can’t believe this is Ren’s last year in Shugs and we are going to cherish every moment with them!!!

Welcome to the second !!! Today we are introducing one of our amazing new members, Darren Sulzer!!! Darren is a sophomore studying math education with minors in leadership studies and education and he is from Powell, Ohio. His favorite color is cerulean and if he was a vegetable, he would be peas. A fun fact about Darren is he grew up two minutes away from an elementary school he never went to. When Darren was little, he wanted to be an architect, and now he wants to be a high school math teacher. Hope he is as good at math as he is at singing! Darren is the treasurer of SDES on campus and is an RA at Park Stradley. We are so excited to welcome Darren to the tenor/bass section (he is that talented, he can sing multiple parts) and can’t wait for an amazing year!!!

Welcome to the first !!! Today we are introducing one of our amazing returning members, Kalib Walsh!!! Kalib is a sophomore studying marketing with a minor in theater and he is from Solon, Ohio. His favorite color is orange and if he was vegetable, he would be a snap pea. A fun fact about Kalib is he loves wearing crazy socks (next time you see him, ask him to show you his socks)!! Kalib is our secretary and social chair!When Kalib was little, he wanted to be a teacher and a basketball player, and now he wants to be an actor and a businessman. Maybe one day Kalib will end up on the big screen! We hope he will still remember us when he gets famous! We can’t wait for another amazing year with Kalib!

Welcome to the first !!! Today we are introducing one of our amazing seniors, Laura Martel!!! Laura is a senior (obviously) studying speech and hearing science with minors in American Sign Language and disability studies. She is from Solon, Ohio and her favorite color is blue. If Laura was a vegetable, she would be a green bell pepper, her favorite vegetable! A fun fact about Laura is she has signed, not sung, signed, as in sign language, the national anthem and Carmen Ohio at 4 OSU football games! When Laura was little, she wanted to be a pediatrician and now she hopes to work as a bilingual speech pathologist at a school for the Deaf! Isn’t that amazing?!?! We can’t believe this is Laura’s last year in Shugs and we are going to cherish every moment with her!!!

Welcome to the first !!! Today we are introducing one of our amazing new members, Rebecca Martel!!! Rebecca is a first year studying pharmaceutical sciences from Solon, Ohio Her favorite color is yellow and if she were a vegetable, she would be a carrot! A fun fact about Rebecca is she is left handed! When Rebecca was little, she wanted to be a princess, and now she wants to be a pharmacist. Wow how things change! We are so excited to welcome Rebecca to the alto section and can’t wait for an amazing year!!!

It’s that time of year again!! We have our info session and auditions coming up. We can’t wait to see all the incredible talent that comes to audition for the group! Scan the QR code for the info session and follow the link for audition sign-ups.

We are SO honored to have performed at the 43rd annual Governor’s Holocaust Commemoration. Visiting Ohio’s beautiful statehouse, taking pictures with Governor DeWine & the First Lady, speaking to other Ohio leaders, and hearing the stories of Holocaust survivors and Holocaust liberators was such a powerful experience for our members. Special thank you to Howie Beigelman and Catherine Scheller of Ohio Jewish Communities for reaching out to us with this opportunity to perform! We hope to perform at such important events for both the Ohio Jewish community and the Ohio community as a whole in the future as well. ♥️

For our final Senior Spotlight we have Lauren Blaugrund!! Lauren has been in the Meshuganotes for four years and this year she was our very dedicated secretary!! After graduation, she will be getting her Primary Education license!! We will miss you so much Lauren and we wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors!!

Happy Friday!! Today we continue our Senior Spotlight with Zachary Sukienik who has been a member of the Meshuganotes for two years!! Zachary will be staying in Columbus to finish his degree in communications and to focus on his band !! We will miss you and wish you good luck next year!!

It's the countdown to commencement, and we're celebrating by spotlighting our seniors in the Class of 2023! First up we have Shayna Kling; Shayna has been a member of the Meshuganotes for four years!
After graduation, Shayna will be a Social Justice Springboard Fellow at The University of Miami Hillel in Florida!! We will miss you here in Ohio, Shayna and we wish you good luck down in Florida!!
