Ian Mutch
Created this new mural in my home town, going large with abstract, flowing shapes and Terns, which i frequently see flying around nearby shores.
Illustrated details of local land and water flora can be discovered close up, while further down the laneway you’ll see a lots of little painted elements, created by the local kids from Dunsborough Primary School.
Big thanks to Andrew Frazer Designs for the assistance!
And Christian Fletcher Gallery for capturing these images.

“Compartments”
Acrylic & ink on timber
The latest group exhibition with sees 27 artists interpreting 27 of Christian’s original photographs.
I’ve chosen a photograph of colourful housing in Namibia and flipped it on its head.
Each painting is like a section of land where the work invites us to think about property, ownership and various housing around the world.
“I really enjoyed translating this image. My aim is for the viewer to interpret a connection between the photograph and the paintings through playful treatment of abstract composition and colour. It’s the details that add to the adventure - the timber grain that represent the sands of Namibia where I grew up and the little drawings of houses, African animals and plants.”
The work plays on the idea of juxtaposition and how relationships form when things exist side by side. Like neighbours, cultures and communities. Plants, pictures, words, colours. Everything. Even the visual relationship between these little paintings and how this changes depending on how they’re set out, or chosen as a set of three, or five.

Take a stroll along the iconic and marvel at the larger-than-life murals of three majestic whale species. The life-sized paintings of a Blue Whale, Southern Right Whale and Humpback Whale with calf are a sight to behold. The murals were created by artist Ian Mutch in 2015 and feature an intricate background of small painted fish. Each whale has its own identifying title, making it an educational and inspiring experience for all 🐋
