Reflecting on Race Equality Week and how creating helped ground me in my most difficult time.

For those not subscribed to my newsletter, I've recently published Episode 2 of my monthly blog: "A Knit in Time."

It's taken over a year to find the strength to openly talk about my experiences of racism which led to me experiencing severe PTSD. I'm grateful to have had the support of researchers from University of Leicester who helped me share my story as part of their research project on racism in rural areas.

Reliving these experiences is incredibly painful and always leaves me with a lump in my throat, but I'm hoping by sharing this blog it offers insight of what daily life can feel like even in the most beautiful parts of the world, and just how much more we can do to speak up collectively and be better allies.

I've also shared some further writing by more eloquent writers and who openly talk about their experiences of racism in the countryside. Their writing gave me the validation I needed when I felt completely isolated.

The more we can talk about the damaging effect experiencing discrimination has on people, the more we can actively do to make the world a better place.

To read more about my story, sign up to my monthly newsletter by following the link in my bio. Alternatively, you can read my blog via my website:

Valentine's day is just over a week away so I thought I'd put together a quick guide featuring the bestselling valentines gifts 🩷❀️

My current favourite has to be the Make Your Own Kits. A lot of time has been dedicated to making these as accessible as possible --- they include step-by-step written instructions, picture instructions and access to an online video where you can follow along in real-time.

If you're struggling to choose, or would like to talk about putting together a custom gift-box for your valentine, then send me an email or pop me a message on here and we can chat!

Don't forget that free gift wrapping is available on all orders - simply pop a note on at the checkout.

Happy almost Valentine's Day!

✨ 25% DISCOUNT TREAT ✨

Lots of new plans lie ahead for me and By Chand in 2024, including plans for a relocation. Past experience is warning me there may be a few hurdles ahead before an exciting new chapter begins and if there's one thing I have learnt from last year, it was to prioritise my wellbeing and to try and take it easy when I can. So I'm escaping for a well-earned and much-needed long weekend with the boys. Not only am I putting my work out of office on, but I'm also completely switching off from By Chand emails and social media, and switching my phone off! I'll be spending the days walking along my favourite beach and the evenings in front of a log burner. I cannot bloody wait!

It's rare for me to take some time out and switch off like this. So treat yourself to an equally rare 25% discount on the website while I'm on holiday. All orders will be made on my return on Monday! Use 'TAKEMETOTHEBEACH' discount code at checkout. Discount ends on Sunday 7 Jan at 11pm.

Hope this inspires you to take some time out for yourself too!

Happy New Year my beautiful friends!

Hope you've all had a lovely, restorative break! I've had so many messages from lovely friends saying hope I'm relaxing after that mammoth busy run up to Christmas. I'm not quite relaxing yet as I've still got orders to get through and am prepping stock for markets and stockists but I'm definitely loving the slower pace!

I have treated myself though and taken time to reflect on some of the lovely feedback I've received so far this season. Reading these reviews always brings a smile to my face and makes those busy days worthwhile!

Thank you for all the kind words! β™₯️β™₯️

✨AND THAT'S A WRAP MY FRIENDS ✨

As I sit here wrapping up the last of your orders, I just wanted to say a big big thank you to every single one of you for all the love and support you have shown me this festive season!

To every single one of you who has shared kind feedback and photos, bought and gifted products, came along to say hi at markets, and sent me lovely messages of encouragement, it has meant so, so much. I'm proud of all I have achieved this year and how much I have elevated my brand. I couldn't have done it without your love and support over these past years, so thank you for being on this journey with me. You are helping me get closer to the dream of owning my own shop one day β™₯️

I can't wait to see what the new year will bring, but for now, I'm hanging up the knitting needles and spending time with my family and friends - and finally getting some well earned rest! I hope however you are spending the next few days, it's a lovely restorative time for you all too, and Merry Christmas to those of you who are celebrating 🌲

Sending big love, hugs, and thanks to you all 😘

Don't risk frostbite!

Bundle your-elf up in the toastiest, brandy-buttery soft Merino wool scarf this Christmas. I may be biased, but I truly believe Merino wool is warmer than a Pumpkin Spice Latte - in one of these scarves, yule be as cozy as a hot mince pie 🫠

Pop down to or this weekend and try them on for your-elf (it's ok to repeat that pun, right?!)

πŸŽ„πŸŽ„πŸŽ„

Right - that's enough puns for me!

I'll be at on Saturday 2nd December and on Sunday 3rd December.

Don't forget you can also pre-order directly from my website and collect your items for free at any of the markets this weekend ❀️

Happy Diwali!

Diwali is celebrated by millions across the world and is known as the festival of light. It marks the return of Ram, Sita and Lakshman from a 14 year exile and after killing the demon-king Ravana. The legend goes that everyone lights candles to light the path home for Ram, Sita, and Lakshman.

Diwali was always a big celebration for my family. It would involve decorating the house, lighting candles in every room, dressing up in lenghas, having friends and family over to share food and laughter, and we would also visit the Hindu temple and join in with the Gujrati dance of Dhandiya.

There was always so much colour, happiness and hope.

Diwali symbolises the victory of good over evil, light over darkness and knowledge over ignorance. It’s always been a reflective time of the year for me, taking stock of all that’s happened in the year, and starting afresh, letting go of all the bad and starting again. Over the last 3 years, I’ve started my own tradition to mark Diwali by starting the day with an open water swim.

I love having time on my own, being in nature, reflecting on the year and physical washing away the negativity. It’s always a hopeful time, symbolising new beginnings and new adventures. I’ll be lighting a candle in every room this evening, to welcome in light, love and hope in our home.

Sending all the same hope for all my friends celebrating Diwali today.

πŸ’« Bringing people together πŸ’«

I absolutely love receiving orders and knowing who they are being bought for. One of my brand values is kinship; weaving people together through woven textiles.

When customising multiple items, some people opt for exactly the same matching items, some choose the same design but different colours for each one (like this order), and some buy for friends and family who don't know each other but will be woven together by that mutual friend and their gift choices! Many local customers message to say they spotted a By Chand knitwear product on their rambles, and occasionally I walk past people wearing a By Chand hat, and it makes me beam with pride knowing that my designs are so unique they stand out.

Knitwear brings people together and when cared for, these products are long lasting πŸ’›

The Hands Behind The Scenes

Local business, based in Hope Valley, Derbyshire

I'm the girl you've seen knitting on the bus, cross stitching on planes, winding up balls of yarn on hilltops. Happiness to me is when my hands are busy crafting.

I developed a passion for these crafts during my teenage years and finally plucked up the courage to make the big move from London to The North so I can devote more time to developing my love of craft.

I am inspired by bright coloured yarn, designing new cross stitch and especially love incorporating my feminist ideals in my work. I really love receiving custom orders, especially when I get the chance to design a unique product tailored to my collaborator's tastes and ideas. So please get in touch to work with me on creating that product you've always wanted or one that you know will spread a big, fat smile on your bestie's face!
