Ashes to ashes, dust to dust, death is what punctuates the perpetual miracle of life in all of its beauty. The end of the flesh is not the end of the spirit, and through art, we are able to leave a bit of our spirit behind for others.
The Sedlec Ossuary is located underneath the cemetary of the All-Saints Church in Czechia. The ossuary is decorated with the bones of 70,000, arranged into various decorations and structures. It was formally created in 1870 by a Czech artist, however the bones themselves date back to the Black Death and the Hussite wars of the 14th century. The location is now one of the largest tourist sites in Czechia. Whilst the artistic value is in the eye of the beholder, it is certainly a unique feature of the Church.
