Attaching signs on our poles creates a safety hazard to our line crew. Nails, screws, tacks and staples can puncture their rubber gloves and safety equipment and put their safety at risk. The safety of our line crew is of the utmost priority. They are someone's spouse, parent, friend and coworker. Please help keep them safe.

The power outage yesterday that affected the Stony Fork circuit and the East Avenue and Main Street circuit was caused by a property owner or contractor cutting a tree which fell on our lines. The property owner failed to notify us of the incident. If you have plans to cut or trim trees near our lines, we ask you to notify us prior to starting the project. This will allow us to assess the job and to avoid a prolonged outage. Providing reliable service and keeping our customers safe is important to us. PUC Asks Consumers to Conserve Electricity Throughout the Holiday Weekend Because of Extreme Cold 24/12/2022

Wellsboro Electric has received word that PJM is concerned with having enough resources to meet the evening peak (6-8 PM) today and the morning peak (8-10 AM) on Christmas day. PJM administers the wholesale electricity market to ensure there are enough generating resources in place to meet the load. We would ask customers to conserve electricity as much as possible during the hours mentioned to alleviate rolling blackouts. WECO may be required to enact rolling blackouts to help preserve the PJM system if PJM is unable to find enough generating resources to meet the Peaks over the next 24 hours. Our customers should know that Wellsboro Electric has contracted enough resources to meet our customer needs through this Winter season. Any help in reducing loads during this cold weather spell would be greatly appreciated.

We are aware customers on the Stony Fork circuit have been experiencing periodic blinks over the past two weeks. Our crews have been performing pole to pole inspections along with installing special sensors to help us isolate and locate the reason for the blinks. This afternoon the line crew found a bird that came in contact with our lines on Faulkner Rd. which caused todays blink.

The reclosers we installed a year ago are working as they should by letting a fault clear and bringing the power right back on. When a fault occurs from animal or tree contacts the recloser is designed to open up by de-energizing the line and then it re-energizes. If the fault cleared then the interruption will look like a blink (1-2 sec.), If the fault remained then the recloser will run through its operation again and if it makes to a third attempt (3 blinks/interruptions) then the fault is permanent and the power will remain out until a crew comes out to find the issue and repair it.

Providing safe and reliable electric is our priority, so we continue working on additional ways to protect our equipment from animal contacts which in turn will help to keep your power flowing when you need it most. We apologize for any inconvenience the blinks have caused and as always if you experience blinks or service interruptions, please contact our office.

Energy usage is a key factor in the size of winter energy bills. Here are some ways you can control that usage with these energy saving tips.

• Pay attention to the thermostat – Every degree you raise or lower the temperature could impact energy costs by up to 3%. Also, consider a programmable thermostat to automatically lower temperatures at night or while you are away from home.

• Keep furnaces and ducts clean – Regular furnace maintenance along with clean filters and ducts help ensure efficient operation of your heating system.

• Winterize your home – Seal tiny cracks and air leaks around windows, doors and outside faucets.

• Run full loads – Waiting for full loads in washers and dishwashers can help reduce the use of hot water and limit the amount of energy needed to heat that water.
