The Studio Gallery in Yallingup is an elegant and welcoming gallery in the south west pocket of Western Australia that offers a smorgasbord of art. The Studio Gallery is a visual feast of paintings, glass, sculptures and jewellery.
And if the gorgeous art makes you peckish, the adjacent award winning Studio Bistro will certainly sate your appetite. What a great combination, art and food!
And guess what?...Lynn Walsh Designs is very chuffed to be a new addition to the jewellery cabinets in the Gallery.

Visiting Fitzgerald River National Park in south western WA has been an eye popping experience. Given it is one of the most botanically biodiverse places on the planet, with over 1800 species of flowering plants, and 75 species that are found nowhere else, it deserves its Unesco listing.
The coastline is simply stunning, pristine white sands and crystal clear waters which travel from pale turquoise to navy blue as the sea deepens. Truly gorgeous.
Well done👏 to the WA National Park rangers and managers who keep this Park clean, protected and accessible.
Some plants and coastline that captured the camera.
Not sure a lense could ever reproduce the colours of these southern seas...Nature outfoxing technology 💙
Last post, people. Sadly, the road trip is at an end.
San Luis Obispo is our last stop on the central coast before braving the traffic into Los Angeles Airport.
Good place to grab some clam chowder off the jetty, shop for guitars, loll with the Elephant seals, snap the fabulous Fremont Theatre, and repack the bags. Hey, the Fremont is very cool. The very cute Box Office is still functioning as a ticket booth!
If you have suffered through these posts, thank you🙏 🥰
Road trips call us to explore, observe and expand, and share. May the wheels keep turning🤞🌍
Winding through the considerable mountain range that separates the Pacific's Ocean from inland California we arrive at historic and charming town of Carmel by the Sea.
Exclusive little corner of the coast, with white sand beaches, curling Monterey Pines and beautiful sunsets, this is a lovely spot to perch for a few days. However, it is immensely popular and rather crowded with well behaved designer dogs and their pampering parents. The prams here are for the dogs, not a child in sight...it's a bit weird... just saying.
Frank Lloyd Wright designed a house jutting out onto the rocks and it sold whilst we were here for the modest sum of $22 million USD (over $32 million AUD), which says a lot about enduring architecture and of course, the exclusive location There is quite an assortment of housing styles in Carmel and the houses are packed in like sardines, not a vacant block to be seen. Quite telling.
The Big Sur drive on Highway 1 hugs the coast and it is particularly impressive driving north to south, and driving on the right side of the road in this instance, was a bonus.
Some stretches of the road are closed due to rock slides but we navigated around these and the vistas of the Pacific and the rugged cliffs were worth the extra effort. This is a great scenic drive. Condors soaring off the cliffs, Elephant seals lolling in the warm sand and a few remnant patches of Red Wood forest make this a must do whilst in California.
Cranking up the pace of these posts...time gets away!
Palm Springs, 115 golf courses in the middle of the desert!?
Yes, it is the desert. Palms grew around the springs, so the name is a total no brainer.
Hollywood in the 1950's needed a place to play, and the modernist architects were ready to give them their luxurious, gorgeous, Desert Modern play pens. And boy, did they play!
The touch of these architects is light, bright, airy, and elegant using lots of textures both in wood and stone but also in tiles, cut out masonry blocks, metals and often a lot of white paint. Some houses project into space from their rocky base and other sink low and subtle, surrounded by Agave and cacti, but always with a few palms swaying over head.
The concentration of preserved homes and commercial buildings is remarkable. One's head swivels to take it all in, the brightly coloured doors, the pools, and the desert landscaping, all in perfect harmony with the buildings.
These pics do not do the houses justice. It felt somewhat invasive to linger too long. After all, these are homes, not museums.
After the vastness of the desert, sitting at the intersection of Bob Hope and Frank Sinatra Streets, we watch a parade of Ferraris, Corvettes, Mustangs and Porsches cruise by with attitude, it is a cultural shift requiring some adjustment, and it's not even peak season. This is a town with serious wealth, a large and welcoming LGBTI community, many, many luxurious homes, designer dogs, and loads of bling. The furniture stores and art galleries are fabulous and very cool. Colour is King.
Completely in love with this golden era of architecture, so well preserved here in Palm Springs🌴🌴
Not a place I would wish to live, but hey, great place to visit! ... must dash, its cocktail hour🍹
As we drive north of Phoenix, we climb in altitude, leaving the Sonoran Desert behind us, to enter the Arizonan High Desert zone. Heading for Prescott nestled in the snow covered mountains. With overnight lows of -7C and highs of 8C it is chilly.
Prescott was once the capital of Arizona Territory and comes with wild west heritage. Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday lived here for a time, and it's easy to imagine the main street of Whiskey Row, its bars loaded with characters. Copper/silver miners, ranchers and drifters, all swilling down whiskeys, telling tall tales...the movies have inculcated these strong images for us over decades so there's no escaping the wild west romance in this part of the world. Including the good, the bad, and the ugly in its entiretry. It's all in the fineprint.
Prescott has a conservative, solid, "don't mess with the establishment" ambience, some spekky galleries, and very friendly folk.
Eleven days straight days in the Gem Shows, and now it's all over. You have to stop at some point or else "madness takes its toll". It has been wonderful to be back, cheers Tucson💎🌵💎
Somehow we couldn't quite fit in the big round ball, the Amethyst heart or the Sunstone gem tree... Shame!
After gem overload at GJX, I decided to take a rare break for lunch in their cafeteria, choosing to sit with a gentleman from Texas.
His accent was European?...this lunch became a fascinating encounter with an extraordinary designer, Mr Zirad Noshie.
A multi award winner including winning First Place with the American Gem Trade Association (AGTA), which is considered the finest jewelry and gemstone competition in the world.
Here is a pic of one his award winning designs. Blister pearls in an oyster shell created into a gem studded Panda enjoying a emerald & diamond encrusted banquet of bamboo. The technical skill required is immense and the design rules for awards are very strict, ie those pearls - no glue! Which means Mr Noshie found this pearl shell and his creative eye produced this piece. The adaptation of the blister pearl for the Panda's back is so natural and unmistakably Panda.
Sooo...the conversation was quite a remarkable, an unexpected exchange, discussing gems, designs, travel and animals. Phew, lucky I had my koala pics from the farm! Which, incidentally delighted Mr Noshie.
Captivated by his experiences and charmed with his manners and generosity of spirit and fully restored after a solid handshake and hug...it's back to the bling!
From African Art Village to the super serious bling at GJX💎Gem and Jewellery Exchange
This is the top-tier wholesale market for gems and premade jewellery. If you are a setter of cut stones or you need stock for your retail jewellery shop, there are 650 dazzling vendors to tempt in this huge marquee.
Armed guards, no photos and safes the size of enormous fridges, give you a feel for the gazillions of stones on offer and their value.
However, my new Sri Lankan friend allowed me to take a snap of his Sapphires💎very pretty display. Natural Sapphires come in all the blues, reds, pinks, yellows, and greens, and the best generally come from Sri Lanka.
This is a 1 metre snap of his cabinet, multiply that length by 4 times, and you have the size of this single Vendors booth and an appreciation of just how many stones this one vendor is selling. Gee, only 649 other booths to gaze over...glazing over, too much?
Yep, bling is big business.
Plus, there are multiple strands of semi-precious stones loved by designers. It is an entirely different market, but equally alluring because the stones are bigger and the possibilities more interesting...IMO!
My favourite pearl seller is here too. Lovely Maggie from San Francisco, her pearls are a standout at the Shows, and I have been her customer since 2014. South Sea and Freshwater, all great quality and very 😋
Always impressed to be exposed to this clever chemistry from within the Earth. Vast volumes of material painstakingly converted into stones we desire, collect, celebrate, and revere.
How we love her gems💎
The Tucson Gem Shows are full of surprises.
The African Village Art Show is delightfully different. An incredible array of all things African in rows of tents on a dusty parking lot, heaven for rummaging. So many antiques, artefacts, and literally tonnes of beads from gigantic (very heavy) to minuscule.
Brass from Ghana, Ostrich egg shell from Kenya, Amber from Senegal, Roman glass from Mali. Point to any country in Africa, and you will find a bead!
The vendors keep the very precious and increasingly rare Trade Beads under glass.
See the pic with the huge Chevron glass bead circled...well, it's about 300 years old, made in Venice, and traded by Europeans in the Congo. A single bead is $ 3,500 USD ($5,000), and the strand is $17,000 USD ($24,285 AUD).
Who buys them? Collectors, and they are in demand - big time.
Imagine the Europeans trading goods for these beads. The deals negotiated! How many times have these beads passed from hand to hand and who has worn them, shared them, and coveted them! Rare and unique. If only they had a travel diary!
Fascinating stuff to a bead nerd🤓
Tucson Gem Shows💎great to be back!
SO much fun rummaging, searching, and sorting through the mountains of products on offer. How does the Earth yield so many gloriously beautiful stones? High end sparkles to fossilised Mammoths feet, everything is here, and everything is for sale! Gulp.
To give a sense of scale, here is an aerial shot of ONE show, aptly named G&LW Show aka The Greg & Lynn Walsh Show🤣 Getting lost in a giant marquee is part of the fun.
There are 48 separate shows in 2023... overwhelming? somewhat! But heaven for rock hoppers, makers, retailers, and me😊
Thank you so much to those seekers of sparkles who joined the festival of Lynn Walsh Designs ove

Diverse pieces...you bet! For me, it is always the materials that trigger the design, then the engineering for the body gets full focus.
How will it sit? Looks great on the bench but what happens when it circles the neck?
Below bones? or above?
Long or short, dodge the chest or embrace it?
Clasp it, keep it simple but strong
Durability?..bracelets take a lot of punishment
Metal allergies?
Can you dance in this necklace?1💃🌹
In the Studio the brain is in overload...and there is a lot of dancing!!
Chunky Czech Rhinestone bracelets for some sparkle

Do you need a way to make sure the kids are doing their homework?
Take up jewellery making at the kitchen table so you can spy and create simultaneously! But be careful. It quickly becomes an obsession.
Fast forward a few years and the kitchen table craft becomes a spare bedroom takeover and then suddenly you need a purpose built studio to expand the obsession.
I love making jewellery. I love finding interesting, exotic and stunning materials. My work includes a huge range of materials, beads, pearls, semi-precious stones, silver, textiles, chain and anything up-cycled. I travel extensively to personally source my beads (eg Europe, Thailand, USA, Laos & South America) I am inspired by colour, texture, shapes and particularly beads with a history!
If you walked into my Studio you would find me surrounded by my beads and tools. You would hear fabulous music playing (thank you Greg) and you would be drawn to the views through the windows...to cattle grazing on the lush green paddocks framed by the Jeeralang Hills in the background and you would conclude that this is a space to create.
My work is currently available in The Town and Country Gallery in Yarragon, Vic, Seaview Gallery Queenscliff Vic, Margaret River Gallery in WA, Stony Creek Gallery Daylesford, Vic and Sol Studio Gallery Inverloch Vic.
We hold a number of jewellery shows in private homes both in Victoria and Western Australia. Each year we hold a festive Annual Studio Show on the farm to exhibit and celebrate the years work. We welcome visits to the Studio by appointment and my website has a Gallery of pieces and all enquiries are also welcome.
Please contact [email protected] if you need any further information.
Warm Regards, Lynn

CARING FOR YOUR JEWELLERY
Please do not spray perfume directly onto your jewellery as it can damage the surface of some materials.
Please note that all metals, except gold & stainless steel, will tarnish over time. I have found that storing my silver in re-sealable plastic bags can slow the tarnishing process on silver. Just make sure you don’t scrunch your necklace into a bag too small! I clean my silver with a soft polishing cloth, but I do not recommend immersing your handmade jewellery in any cleaning products.
Some semi-precious stones have been living underground for a very long time so store your jewellery out of direct sunlight.
It is always a good idea to hang your necklaces or store them in an appropriate sized box. They generally do not like being twisted or folded because the wire can kink if not treated kindly.
Glass and stone beads will crack or shatter if you drop them onto hard surfaces. Some of the materials I use cannot be easily replaced so take it easy when you are slipping in and out of your jewellery. Oh...and it is a good idea to remove your jewellery before showering and swimming.
Enjoy your special piece and any feedback would be most appreciated.
