Our contact in Mozambique for had a meeting with the Minister of Health today. Once we send the certificates that our menstrual cups are safe for internal use, we can get a meeting with the Executive Director of UN Women. This would be BIG! We are doing our study in conjunction with the Ministry of Health, UNISEF, the UN, at Graça Machel's school (First Lady in Mozambique and South Africa and Nelson Mandela's widow.) I can't believe that this started out in a classroom as a "weird idea" and now we are seeing it come to scale and be real!

Afya International has been granted a wonderful opportunity to start a pilot program with the Ministry of Health in Mozambique and Graca Machel (Nelson Mandela's widow!!) the first week of August where the product will be evaluated in both urban and rural settings in Mozambique. One thousand cups will be distributed through two different secondary schools, and for the purpose of the study the girls will receive one for free. Data will be collected via trusted local women being paid a stipend, and will be compiled and presented to the Minister of Health and others in November. Afya needs financial support in order to purchase 1000 menstrual cups for the study and to help pay for the stipends for those collecting data. A similar pilot program is aimed to be replicated in Uganda in November, and financial support is greatly needed! This study will help Afya refine and solidify their product to be the best possible by evaluating usability and quality, begin to set up frameworks for an educational program, and begin to spread the message that menstruation matters and should be addressed. If you can please spread the word and donate what you can! Anything helps us become one step closer to achieving our mission and providing young women with what they deserve!! https://www.gofundme.com/afyainternational
