Canine Search Initiative, Inc.
CSI suports both K9 detection training through the conduct of high quality seminars and provides K9 SAR resources to local law enforcement.
Just completed a 3 day seminar for ARSA with Melissa Stagnaro (https://www.searchandrescuesport.org/) at Quinebog Kennels! We had a tremendous group of handlers all new to the RH standard but open-minded and willing to learn some new skills and explore what we offered! A huge thank you to Jennifer Broome and her amazing staff for being both an amazing host, a willing participant, and for her willingness to share her training knowledge as well! We had a blast sharing the different approaches to training, talking dogs and learning from each other! Day 1 presented the RH standard, we played the "Trainers Game" with clickers, assessed and discovered some different reinforcers through play and then tackled the agility elements in QKs beautiful enclosed "challenge course"!
It's the LAST DAY to support CSI through our Bonfire campaign! Thank you to all who have already supported or made a contribution! It is truly appreciated!

So we received a lot of GREAT feedback from our recent seminar with Don Blair! Here is what some of our attendees said!
-- Don teaches the team in front of him but does it in a very digestible manner that you can take away with you and continue to build upon no matter your level.
-- The lecture was very informative and thought provoking. I would recommend to all handlers
-- Don was amazing, this was my first seminar ever for anything. I had a nose work spot, the feedback after every rep whether it be me or someone else working was great. I learned alot from the auditing side when I wasn't working my dog as well. He broke down problems and issues and took extra time on things to help each individual and their dog. I learned alot about the science side of it and it has me eager to learn more.
-- Highly recommend. Don is clearly an expert but also has the ability to teach and coach at an individual level… no matter what level you are at.
-- One of my favorite parts of the weekend was the point-to-points. I was a nervous wreck letting go of the lead… but Don and Kris both pushed my comfort zone as they had faith in us and seeing my dog do well was a giant confidence boost. I was so nervous that at one point I joked with Don that the seminar should come with anxiety meds but I knew we were in great hands and were there to learn… and learn we did !
-- The lecture portion was also a highlight and I would love it if Don would write a book!
--on a scale of 1-10, one attendee said: Twenty!! It was above amazing!!

Well, our 4 day seminar with Don Blair completed today with some significant improvements seen in both K9s and handlers as they received individual coaching by Don on their K9 performance and in their leash handling. Don provides detailed feedback to each handler and then discusses his training approach to all seminar attendees to ensure understanding and application of the information. By the end of the 4 days, Don is hoarse from all the coaching! Don will continue his coaching on Tuesday through Thursday for those who booked semi-private sessions. A huge thank you to our venue host, our venue photographer, and all our working handlers whose hard work and focused concentration over the past 4 days allowed for an incredible learning experience for all participants!
Lots of folks have asked if they should bring their dogs on Friday Oct 6--which is the day of Don's lecture. If there is an option to leave dogs at home, that is fine! We will be indoors for the lecture. On occasion, we have done demo's after the lecture--it all depends on time, but there is not a plan to work dogs on Friday!
So everyone who has registered for the Don Blair Seminar and Semi-private sessions should have received an information packet with venue information! Please reach out if you did not receive this information via email!

Working spots are all full; auditors are still welcome to sign up for the seminar--whether it is the lecture day (Oct 6) or the working days! for more information and to register, please fill out the registration form!

So the Founder just led a seminar down in Leesburg, VA. The American Rettungshunde Sport Association (Rescue Dog) is an organization that is working to host trials under the IRO Standards. Both sport dog and SAR handlers attended the seminar. Field work comprising tracking or area search work was complimented by sessions on the various obedience and dexterity exercises required by the standard. A super group of motivated handlers and their talented K9 partners attended!

About Canine Search Initiative
Canine Search Initiative was founded to provide greater opportunities for K9 detection training using the principles of learning that are inherent in all living systems. The founders, whose primary detection focus is for search and rescue (both live find and human remains) wanted to raise awareness on leveraging this information to create greater efficiencies and efficacy in training methods. To that end, CSI offers several training opportunities per year that are open to handlers working in all aspects of K9 detection irrespective of odor.
CSI also maintains a small group of certified K9s for SAR that are available as a resource to local law enforcement.
