A couple years ago, I joined Deanna Seymour on an audio summit called the Anti-Hustle Holiday Series, where business owners stopped talking business and started shared personal stories that were related to the holiday season.

I talked about the , which yes, I know is a divisive topic.

This year, Deanna's back at it for the third round of this series, and I'm so excited to listen in.

It's totally free if you sign up now and listen to everything between 11/27-12/3.

But, for only $9, you'll get access to this series and the previous two series (including my Elf on the Shelf rant!)...and ONE HUNDRED PERCENT of the profits will be donated to Dolly Parton's Imagination Library which puts books in the hands of children. It's an incredible cause that you should absolutely learn about now if it's the very first time you've heard of it.

So what do you think? Want to join me in giving money to a great cause this holiday season, all while hearing about and from incredible business owners?

Dooooooo ittttt!

See this gem right here? She's the guest on tomorrow, and I'm so excited that I get to be the person to introduce her to you today.

Meet Emma Boshart, a messaging strategist and copywriting pro who helps irreverent voices steal the spotlight.

Since 2015, she’s been turning six and seven figure brands into mind-melting powerhouses, with messaging & strategy that builds relationships and sells.

Curious about what happened before 2015? Well, we cover that in the first 4 minutes of the podcast. It includes: The mechanics of some of the 2012 Olympics competitors' bodies, an episode of Mystery Diagnosis, and fashion design school.

(Say what?!: Since we're talking about strategic storytelling, I'll share that I'm using peices of Emma's actual story to entice you to listen to learn about how these things are related to each other and how it influences her in her current job circa 2023.

Today, besides being an excellent podcast guest, Emma is on a mission to help brands use storytelling to move people to action and create positive community change.

I hope you'll join me in welcoming her to the show, and make sure to tune in and listen tomorrow (Thursday) morning EST!

Deepfakes: Why podcasters are at risk and how to protect yourself | Descript 11/10/2023

Jordan Peele is a masterful filmmaker. So masterful that back in 2018, he left me questioning my ability to determine whether something was real or not with the deepfake that he made of former President Barack Obama.

At the time, I remember thinking, "Thank goodness that no one would create a fake video of me". I couldn’t imagine a situation in which someone would have access to enough content of me to train a neural network on—nor could I imagine why they’d want to.

And then, I started a podcast.

Now, AI is so accessible in our day-to-day lives that the scenario that once seemed so impossible suddenly seems possible.

Are you a or involved in the world in someway? Than this article I wrote for Descript on the topic of deepfakes is a must read.

Deepfakes: Why podcasters are at risk and how to protect yourself | Descript In this article, you’ll learn the risk podcasters face by creating a consistent audio collection of their voice, how they can attempt to protect themselves, emerging ways to monitor for deepfakes, and what to do if you ever find a deepfake of your voice on the internet.

Do you know what a podcast party is? If not, check out this article I wrote for . You'll learn about how and approached their podcast party and how hosted a completely different type of podcast party. The link to read it is in my stories or just head over to Descript's Resources hub

It would be helpful if I actually shared my podcast episodes, would it not?

Yes! Especially if those episodes are pure gold.

In the most recent episode of , I interviewed Lindsay Padilla, co-founder of HelloAudio all about private podcasts.

It's definitely one of my longest interviews, but it is so incredibly good and not a moment of this can be missed if you're at all curious about private podcasts or if you're thinking about creating more premium content for your business.

🎙🎙🎙 IS THIS THING ON? 🎙🎙🎙 IS THIS THING ON? 🎙🎙🎙

After a serious amount of strategizing, a ton of market research, and quite a bit of business development over the last few months, I have a new offer that I am so head over heels for and I'm just thrilled it's finally time to share with you.

I's no surprise that I LOVE podcasting. Starting my show almost two years ago was by far one of the best business decisions I made in the seven years I've been working for myself. It's grown my professional network, boosted my income, and introduced me to so many opportunities that I wouldn't have had if I wasn't creating and publishing audio content weekly.

Like Yale: I've been a guest speaker for a special business fellowship two years in a row because their program director stumbled upon my show when they were looking for SEO experts.

Since strategy is my biggest business strength, and because I believe in the power of podcasting to truly transform your business and your marketing, I've decided to offer podcast content strategy intensives as a service.

These are perfect for business owners who:

🎧 Are considering starting a podcast as a business marketing asset and want to make sure they do it as strategically as possible right from the very beginning.

🎧 Already have a podcast as a marketing channel and want to hyperfocus their content strategy so that they choose the right topics & follow SEO best practices to attract more listeners AND convert those listeners into paying customers.

Do you fit either of those categories above? If so, I'd love to work with you.

I'm opening up 5 beta intensives at an incredibly discounted price for people who book their session before the end of the month. It's $1000 off (yeah, you read that correctly. ONE THOUSAND BUCKEROOS discounted!) off my current VIP intensive price, and you only need to pay 50% to book your session. The the remainder must be paid in full before the intensive completes and can be split into two payment if necessary.

The moment these spots are filled...well, they're filled. If you have any questions at all about this offer, just DM me & I'll answer them right away.

Book your strategy session by paying the first deposit here: https://portal.erinollila.com/public/appointment-scheduler/624626c8336c17f503e5f8e9/schedule
It really is that simple.
Once this is done, I'll be in touch via email with all the details.

Birthdays are always a time of reflection for me.

They kind of have the New Year vibes just without the snow and freezing weather.

Another time of year I think a lot of people are very reflective is the beginning of a new school year.

And since my birthday and a new school year always occur around the same time, it's safe to say I've been doing quite a bit of thinking.

What do I want this year ahead to be like?
What do I want to do to finish off my 30s before I enter my 40s?
What do I want my work situation to be like? My home situation? The relationships I have with other family and friends?
How do I want to feel?
Is there anything I want to change? Anything I'd like to add or remove?

While I'm not quite sure I have all the answers to those questions, you can rest assured to know I'm going into this last year in my thirties appreciating and enjoying every moment.

Tell me: What's your advice to me? What should I do, see, focus on?

Photos from Erin Ollila's post 06/09/2023

Last year, Ameet Khabra joined me on the Talk Copy to Me podcast to talk all things Google Ads for small businesses.

Here are three key takeaways from our conversation…

1. Location Matters
When it comes to Google Ads, copying strategies across locations can be problematic. The competition, audience, and target market differ from one location to another. Testing and researching are crucial to understand the specific dynamics of each market.

2. Get Creative
Google Ads has character limitations for headlines and description lines. Ad writers must be creative in working within these restrictions. Focus on keywords and phrases users are searching for, answer their queries, and add a bit of fun to make your brand stand out.

3. Know Your Numbers
Analyze where your money is being spent, run different campaigns on social media platforms, and determine your traffic sources using Google Analytics. This knowledge helps identify the breakeven point, ideal cost per acquisition, and maximize profits.

Today is my birthday.

As I reflect on the last complete year around the sun, I couldn't be more grateful for the life I live in such an uncertain and chaotic time in this world's history. Grateful for me. Grateful for you. Grateful for this wild and weird experience.

If you want to treat me this afternoon, leave me a comment with some memory of our relationship, something you've learned from me, a funny story, anything to make me giggle, remember good times, or feel excited for the year ahead!

Not that I LIKE unsubscribes. I mean, no one does.

But...I personally find it immensely funny when someone unsubscribes from my email newsletter within minutes of me sending an email out.

It's like: were you just sitting there, waiting on your next opportunity to unsubscribe the moment my name appeared in your inbox? Did the subject line turn you off so much that you were like "Nope! I'm not even reading this garbage. Unsubscribe immediately!"? Do you have automatic unsubscribes turned on? What's happening here?

I loved this point Liz Wilcox makes in this episode about writing a welcome email sequence:

“As a runner, I don’t make my own shoe. And I don’t pretend to know…the mathematical science behind the design of the shoe, right? I go to like Brooks or Nike or Adidas for that, right? But the shoe enables me to keep pushing myself.

In my products — and in your products, too — you’re the person. You’re helping the runner and you are, you know, the magic behind the 'shoe'.” – Liz Wilcox

So we’ve talked about how great of a marketing asset quizzes can be, but what happens after you’ve completed one and launch it to the world? Do you just keep your fingers crossed and hope for the best?

(Friends, if you're considering that, let me tell you that it isn't a good idea.)

No. You create a post-quiz email strategy that helps you to nurture your new leads.

But where do you even get started with that post-quiz email strategy? And do you need a new email welcome sequence for each quiz you create? (Gosh, I'm certainly asking you a lot of questions today!)

In this throwback episode of the Talk Copy to Me podcast, quiz copywriter Dawn Petrin and I dive right into to quiz email marketing and talk about how to craft the strongest post-quiz email sequence so your new leads feel comfortable and begin to trust you after they’ve finished taking your quiz.

It's been 11 years since I graduated with my Masters of Fine Arts in Creative Writing.

That sentence I just wrote right there doesn't even sound possible...but yet, it's true. (Fact checkers... come at me.)

I have no clue where any of the time went from then until now. (Well, that's not true. )

Since graduating, I got married, had two more kids, launched a successful literary journal, started my own business, bought my own home, traveled and explored and enjoyed all my friendships and family members.

I've learned more about myself and what I believe in. I'm confident in my boundaries and my values and expectations.

And, I'm proud of the person in this picture, who constantly reinvented herself over the course of the past eleven years — sometimes in small ways, and other times in large ways.

Now I'm curious what the next decade has in store for me. I don't think I would have believed you if you told me at graduation I'd be a self-employed copywriter 11 years into the future, but I couldn't be happier with where my life has taken me.

Podcast Guesting and All the Copy that Comes With It 08/07/2023

“I thought over the past couple of months, "Well, where do people really interact with me the most?" — and it’s on my podcast.

That is actually where I do most of my sharing for my guest episodes now. It’s almost like a free promo spot that I give the host whose show I was a guest on. It’s in the beginning of my episodes, I share, “Hey, I was a guest on [the show]. Here’s what we talked about. Here’s why you should listen.”

But that’s copy. And I write that ad spot out before I ever even think of saying it in the episode.” – Angie Trueblood

SOCIAL PROOF SELLS.

Yep, we all know this.

But do we all go out there and make acquiring and using testimonials and reviews in our business a top priority?

NOPE NOPE NOPE

Hey friend! If we don't know each other already, I'm Erin Ollila, and I've been a website copywriter for over seven years and a writer for over 20.

I cannot even begin to tell you how many incredible business owners I've worked with who don't have GOOD testimonials they can use in their marketing assets. Or worse, the ones who did have pretty good testimonials had no clue where and how to use them on their sites, their social media accounts, or on their sales pages.

So, I got all frustrated and passionate about this and created my first product: The Testimonial Toolbox. Since then, I've built this product out into a whole funnel of testimonial courses, swipes, tools, and more to help you with your social proof.

And in just a week I'll be speaking at Lizzy Goddard's Low Ticket Live multi-day event about why testimonials are SO IMPORTANT even for the lowest-priced offers.

Tickets are FREE, and you can grab yours here: https://lowticketlive.com/erin

(And top secret y'all, but if you grab the upgraded passes now, they're way cheaper than they will be when the event starts and they are INCREDIBLE and worth a ton more than they cost!)

I hope you'll join me!

Set Your Own Website Rules with Teresa Schlup - Erin Ollila 02/07/2023

Here are two tiny sneak peeks from this throwback episode of with website designer Teresa Schlup:

“There’s no rules here. I can give you an idea of how an average homepage is structured. But if you own a used car lot, and your friend is a solopreneur landscaper, and his sister is a copywriter, the three of you have very different needs. And your home pages should rightfully look very different.” – Erin Ollila
