It has been discovered that the endocannabinoid system (ECS) plays an important role in regulation of emotional behavior and facilitating the synaptic processes that determine learning, especially those related to a potentially traumatic experience. Thus, cannabinoids can likely play a beneficial role in treating PTSD.
A 2018 study issued in Frontiers in Neuroscience, subtitled "From Bench Research to Confirmation in Human Trials," offers a remarkably thorough look at the potential of CBD in treating this potentially devastating disorder. The study explores the results of animal research with CBD and offers insights into human use of the cannabinoid for treatment of PTSD. While it seems that CBD is most effective for PTSD when administered immediately after the traumatic event, researchers also cited several case studies in which patients responded well to CBD therapy even though the trauma had occurred several years before. In one case, a 10 year-old girl who was sexually abused before the age of 5 was given a dose of CBD (12 to 15 mg once a day) and had improved sleep and less anxiety.

Does CBD Work for Insomnia?

Many patients have reported using CBD as a sleep aid with full spectrum being the most popular. They are convinced that it helps them to get a better night’s sleep. Studies seem to suggest that these people might be onto something. Due to the important role that the endocannabinoid system plays in regulating circadian rhythms, CBD has been found to increase the ease at which a person is able to fall asleep, also helping them to stay asleep for longer periods of time. For this reason, the American Sleep Association recommends CBD as a treatment for anxiety.

Did you know that a sufficiently concentrated dose of quality, full spectrum CBD (includes minor cannabinoids) can enhance quality of sleep and improve sleep latency (the time it takes to fall asleep)?
