How to use BLOCKS in your asana practice. Part 1. (I’m a big fan)
Using blocks is for EVERYONE and just a few benefits are:

🧱 give you extra support in challenging poses
🧱 help you to maintain form (until strength and flexibility develop)
🧱 symbolically you are supported, which feels like a big hug.
🧱 help deepen your stretch (if needed)

- I place this pose in basically every single class.
Do you know the small parable behind this pose?
It may change your view on practicing it.

(short version)
Anjaneya (later to be called Hanuman) saw the morning sun and thought it was glowing juicy fruit, so he took this stance in order to gain strength to LEAP up into the sky and grab that juicy fruit that he desired so much.
For me, it’s taken many years to fall for this pose. MANY. Especially when I’m deeper in it.
But I love a good story and it always makes me feel very rooted, ready to receive, powerful, and as if my fingers are sparkling ✨ (sometimes I wiggle them!) and I can attain all that I wish.
It DEF helps with quad and PSOAS stretching which helps my lower back tons.

There are 2 ways to show up on your mat and in life: As a YES or as a NO.
EMBODY YOUR YES.

Last Saturday was my favorite class I’ve taught so far Infinity Fitness
The energy was FRICKEN AMAZING!
If you were there drop me a line below 💛

Here’s the thing:

‘No’ energy is restricting and resisting and you can feel it in your body in rounded shoulders and tense muscles in the body and face.

YES energy has the energy of possibility and excitement. Your legs are strong your chest is lifted!

Specifically in asana, when you feel the body resisting or the breath constricting, ask yourself—-> how can I adjust to embody a YES in my physical body and my breath? Then do it and feel the difference.

Take that off the mat by noticing when your body language or your mind is tight or resisting, and ask yourself the same thing.

Be a YES

Invite possibility, excitement, courage, stability, and fireworks into your life every day - by embodying YOUR YES.
You feel me? YES, you do. 😛

Reverse. Warrior.

A lunge and a side bend made a baby.

In vinyasa, it’s used many times as a transitional pose, taking you from one place to the next.
✈️
As a standing posture it’s grounding through the feet and legs.
It’s challenging to breathe freely as I keep bending deeper to the side with every breath.

I have to move my rib cage just right and lift through the sternum.
As my front quadriceps start to burn, I press into my heel to engage my glutes.
I lean into the discomfort and the burning as I breathe.

Everything seems so simple at a glance.

Take time to NOURISH your body, heart, mind, and spirit.

To nourish is to STRENGTHEN
To nourish is to CHERISH
To nourish is to SUSTAIN

Things like:
👉🏼 conscious breathing
👉🏼 healthy food choices
👉🏼 deep fulfilling conversations
👉🏼 speaking the truth
👉🏼 walking in nature
👉🏼 silence

Ardha Chandrasana- Breaking Down the Asana…

Think about stability first. Without a stable foundation it’s difficult to balance and feel confident.

With a secure rooted foundation you have awareness of all the intricacies of the foot and ankle (life) that are needed to take the next step.

With a stable, secure foundation, you feel safe to lift off. (straight-connected standing foot then lifting the back leg) )

You start to feel grounded and confident, you make the (torso) turn with an open heart and steady breath.
The pelvis starts to turn and the hips stack and you suddenly feel that all the “weight” of the stacking on the one leg feels supported and balanced.
So THEN you start to extend through the spine and sternum and the back legs lifts higher and straightens with CONFIDENCE
You’re breath isn’t rushed, it’s careful and steady.

Asana (poses) is more than just asana. 😇🤔💛

Artistically they represent a creative product that’s powered by the harmony of two opposites.

Creativity.

An inverted triangle is the symbol for the water element used by Greek philosophers and alchemists.

Fluidity

A triangle has 3 sides. 3 being a whole number because it has a beginning middle and end.

Wholeness.

It’s all connected.

A gift from a special friend 💫

I used to “feel bad” about receiving gifts. Do you?
But now I know that it’s important to receive them with love, excitement, gratitude and not guilt.
And we all should receive them this way because:

1. You are worth it. Period.
2. It’s important for the giver to give just as much as it is to receive.
3. The energetic exchange between the giver and receiver is important. Receiving with guilt doesn’t allow for a free energy flow.
WE WANT ENERGY TO FLOW FREELY!
4. Giving with love and receiving with love is a beautiful human experience 💛
Do you know what I mean?

(I understand there are exceptions to this but I’m talking about someone who really is happy to give you a gift without expecting anything in return. You know…&the real way to give 😇😇)

Root to Rise.
Grounded. Stable. Secure. Safe.

ON THE MAT:
In yoga, we work on cultivating active hands and feet that grip the ground in order to EXPAND YET STAY FIRM and STEADY.
That’s why we connect down- to then lift and rise up. When we are stable in the legs we can experience freedom in our upper body and breath.

OFF THE MAT:
When we are feeling grounded, secure, and stable in daily life, we are able to experience freedom and clarity in our mind. When we operate from a place of stability, no wind is going to knock us down, so we become clear and conscious and able to face challenges and respond to them, safely. We RISE up and face the challenges with strength and courage.

How can you get grounded?
Here are a few ways:

* get in to your body (meditation, yoga, tai chi, qi gong, yoga nidra etc…)
* consciously experience all of your senses (sound, touch, smell, taste, sight)
* walk in nature

What ways do you ground yourself when you are feeling a little airy?

It’s nice to discover little nuggets in a city where there is an absence of turbulence.

We need the turbulence to appreciate the quiet, the tranquility, the calm. We need the dark to know the light. You’ve heard that before.

Think about it, when you go out into nature and hear water, or birds, or the rustling of leaves, don’t you feel quiet, calm, and able to think?

Medicine:
* go outside and get lost

Practicing Yoga is similar. It’s a nugget in your day where you practice being absent of turbulence.

3 Part Breath 🤗

Who can hear my words in their dreams?
“Belly, Ribs, Chest, Paaause
Chest, Ribs, Belly, Paaause” 🤣
You love it!

It takes practice. Try it.

INHALE and let the belly expands first, then the ribs, then the chest.
EXHALE in the reverse order.

Expanding your diaphragm through the three part breath allows more oxygen to enter the lungs, that oxygen then gets into the bloodstream into the muscles into the brain and you feel amazing physically and mentally not to mention connected to your body.
