Through HAUP, Haitian-American youth work intensively with Art in Motion to cultivate the arts in lo
The "Love and Serve Haiti 2012" Project was designed so that the Haitian-American youth selected to take part in this project would be able to gain the full benefit of a comprehensive field visit to Haiti over a 10-day period. The youth were required to volunteer with a community service agency over the course of their school year while continuing to work collaboratively with their peers on the pr
oject, share opinions and views and their experience for the benefit of the collective. In 2012, the project was opened to the participation of about 30 youths. They reflected the diversity of Haitian-American youths 16 years of age and older. The field visit to Haiti, which took place in mid-August, exposed the group to Haitian history, culture and politics and allowed them to bear witness to the country's current reality. Visits with community leaders and others involved in health, education and related fields were paired with visits to quake refugee settlements and orphanages. The trip allowed time for cultural immersion through dance, music and art. For More Information about "Love and Serve" or to donate, please visit:
