This photo cracks me up! 🤣🍌 Meet Richo, one of our amazing participants on our Triumph Over Trauma program with who lost 10kg in 12 weeks following a simple one page nutrition and lifestyle plan, that we came up with together, in our 1:1 nutrition session.

How did he do it? Apparently it was “Jodi always watching what I’m eating😂😂😂” and he sent me this photo 🤣

I’m super proud of Richo’s hard work and determination in his road to recovery.

Made sourdough this morning, no filter required! it’s certainly a lesson in patience, up before 6am to make this little baby.

I don’t eat bread very often but when I do it’s sourdough as the natural fermentation process breaks down gluten, making it gentler on your stomach.

Now to be patient again and wait an hour before I can slice it!

I got my starter and all the utensils I knead (get it?!) from

Why I love teaching 🧘‍♀️
When I medically discharged from the RAAF with chronic pain from a spinal fusion and the physical nature my job entailed, I had a profound sense of loss and purpose.

With thanks to my late mum who introduced me to yoga all those years ago, I manage my pain & strive to live an active life.

And now I get to share the benefits of yoga and mindfulness with veterans, first responders & tradies all around Australia.

Sometimes the difficult path leads us to where we are meant to be 🙏

This is going to be a big day! Thanks to 36 SQN RAAF Base Amberley fundraising to support our veteran and first responder wellbeing programs at Due South with the Due Douth and Cam Baird VC MG, and Warfighter Coffee - Brewed Therapy team 🙏

36SQN Royal Australian Air Force Commanding Officer and the team are hosting a fundraising event, the C-17 Charity Tug-o-War competition, to raise funds and awareness for Due South. This event will help us support veterans and first responders through our wellness and reconnection courses
this year.

Units from across RAAF Base Amberley will participate, each raising $500 per team.

Our ambassador of Due South, Doug Baird will also attend and address the attendees about his son Cameron Baird VC MG, posthumously receiving the Victoria Cross for Australia – the highest military decoration.

*In line with our core values, all volunteers from Due South attending the event will cover all their own costs, ensuring that everything we raise goes directly to where it’s needed.

See you there Warfighter Coffee - Brewed Therapy Jodi Allen Nutrition and Cam Baird VC MG

One of my priorities as a mum and a nutritionist is to have had a positive influence on my kids outlook towards food and its influence on their physical and mental health. I do not demonise food in any way.

My 16 year old daughter Mia made us a delicious protein breakfast this morning of French toast and berries with high fibre, low GI bread, strawberries & blueberries. Yum! 😋

Nutrition need not be complicated 🥚🍓

Recipe:

6 slices of high fibre or gluten free bread
2-3 free range eggs
1/2 cup milk of choice
1 tsp cinnamon (I always add more)
1 tsp vanilla essence
Berries
Pure maple syrup or honey (optional)

Whisk all ingredients together in a bowl, dunk each slice to coat and lightly cook in a non stick pan with butter.

To increase protein you can add protein powder to the mix, or top with cottage cheese, Greek yoghurt.

Enjoy!

As we head into the cooler months, it’s great to explore new breakfast options that you can easily make for the week ahead, just switch up your toppings! My favourite Chia Seed Pudding recipe is a simple yet delicious option that is great for brain 🧠 & gut 🦠 health with its plant sources of omega 3’s, protein and fibre.

Chia Seed Pudding Recipe:

1 x 400g can of organic coconut milk or milk of choice
1/4 cup chia seeds
1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup (optional)
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon natural vanilla essence
Generous pinch of sea salt

Place all the ingredients in a large lidded jar & give a good stir. Refrigerate overnight for best results. The chia seeds will expand and create a pudding-like consistency.

A surreal feeling to be back to my old stomping ground at RAAF Base Amberley invited by WINGs to present to currently serving women of the Airforce on Women’s Health and Performance.

A lot of fun sharing my own experiences and talking all things hormones and nutrition!

Love meeting participants on our 4 Aussie Heroes Foundation Limited program who also happen to love Warfighter Coffee - Brewed Therapy! ☕️

Food made with love by our beautiful Leanne to ensure everyone is well nourished, yoga nidra under the canopy of rustling leaves, waterfalls, and birds singing.

We’ve also had some great chats on the connection between what we eat and how it affects our mental and physical health.

I am grateful and inspired every day by these courageous individuals who have given so much in their life of service to the community. This is my passion and purpose in life 🙏

ANZAC Day 2024. I’m proud to have served and serve with my brother in the RAAF, more importantly I’m proud of my Pop’s service as one of the famous ‘Rats of Tobruk’.

William John Allen joined 22nd May 1940 2/13th Battalion AIF as a rangefinder Mortar Platoon.

He was wounded multiple times,
with shell wounds in the cheek and left eye, shot left upper arm, shrapnel wounds again lower left eye, a broken arm, and shot through the foot.

An anti tank shell in El Alamein resulted in the loss of 4” of his left arm and near death.

He was finally shipped home to Australia spending 2 1/2 years in Goulborn hospital with shell shock and trauma and recovering from several wounds.

He suffered severe nightmares for many years but it was the love of his family and 7 children he became the loving husband, dad and grandfather with a great sense of the ridiculous which his family loved.

I will always remember his cheeky grin and laugh.

Lest We Forget 🫡 🇦🇺 🙏

Thrilled to have led our first pilot program in Adelaide, with Fulton Hogan and The Healthy Tradie Project empowering tradies with essential health and wellbeing tools. Grateful for the opportunity to make a positive impact in the trades community!

📷 I like to try to squeeze in a long walk in my work travels and found the lovely West Beach for a good dose of vitamin D.

📷 The last pic is with my inspiring uncle, who has been a tradie for most of his life and now experiencing the debilitating effects of Parkinson’s disease. He had a lot of tips for me on how to speak with Adelaide Tradies!

I thrive on To Do Lists - I create one at the end of each day for the following day so I’m not ruminating at night of what needs to be done. I like this advice from where you can identify challenges you may face during the day, and it’s directive, which suits us in the military, veteran and first responder community. What do you think? Will you give it a try?

And that’s a wrap for 2023! As I reflect on my adventures both professionally and personally throughout the year I realise this is why I’m so tired this Christmas!

Moving house for the third time since we lost ours in the floods has taken a lot out of me, but I’m grateful for all the people and organisations I’ve had the pleasure to work with Due South, The Healthy Tradie Project, Mates4Mates, Prince's Trust Australia, 4 Aussie Heroes Foundation Limited, HomeFront Australia

I’m looking forward to having a break for a couple of weeks to surf, hike, and hang with my kids. Next year is going to be big!

Today we honour those who gave their lives in service.

Saturday 11 November 2023 marks the anniversary of the Armistice that ended fighting with Germany in World War I.

Every year at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, millions around the world pause in silence to remember the sacrifices many have made so we can enjoy life today.

So proud of my friend Ian Rawson and Warfighter Coffee - Brewed Therapy for winning the prestigious Commonwealth Bank Business Of The Year Award and The Prince’s Trust Australia Community Impact Award!

As a Prince's Trust Australia alumni and judge (of a different category) of these awards I was so excited to see the recognition of all the hard work that Ian and his beautiful wife Pauline have put into Warfighter Coffee and the support they provide to Due South to run our military, veteran, and first responder programs.

To have Warfighter coffee espresso martini’s on the lawn of Admiralty house was also pretty cool!

What an amazing week facilitating RAAF 29 SQN current serving members on their adventure training in beautiful with the amazing team at Due South. We started each day with yin yoga and meditation, then went out of our comfort zones canyoning, abseiling and kayaking in rapids, it will take a couple of days to recover but it was worth it!

Good people doing good things! I love this pic from one of our recent participants, Di. I gifted my favourite gratitude journal (from Amazon’s). Warfighter Coffee - Brewed Therapy the soon to be released Due South Coffee for a Cause, and Due South our favourite hats! 3 veteran owned businesses coming together and giving back to our community. You can’t get much better than that 🙏

I’m proud to be a community partner Prince's Trust Australia supporting Defence members and their families in seeking self-employment.

I found transitioning to civilian life challenging, and struggled with the loss of identity I had in Defence since I was 17 years old.

Programs like the Prince’s Trust Australia Enterprise programme support veteran owned businesses providing tools and inspiration to ‘succeed beyond service’.
