SPICE CABINET VINEYARD. A unique 18-acre site, sits adjacent to the Columbia River on the Mercer family farm. A deep sandy soil that has blown over the rock bluffs above & a steep south east aspect create site characteristics that are similar to areas in the Rhone. Planted with a wide-array of varietals, this vineyard truly is our winery’s spice cabinet.
Need another Riesling to try our wine? Our Riesling is sourced 100% from our Princeton vineyard, named after Brigadier General Hugh Mercer who fought & died in the Battle of Princeton during the Revolutionary War. Princeton Vineyard pays homage to his sacrifice.
Visit the link in our bio to learn more about Princeton vineyard.
A bird's eye view of our Spice Cabinet vineyard. Do you know why we call it Spice Cabinet? Well, since this 18 acre vineyard grows 9 different varietals of grapes, we thought Spice Cabinet was a fitting name because there is so much variety to pick from. The soil here is Quincy; generally associated with excessively drained, coarse textured soils on dune-like terraces. The parent material was windblown sand derived from granite, basalt and quartzite. The proximity to the Columbia River ensures constant movement of airflow which provides the advantage of extra frost free days and lower mildew pressure.
Varietals grown here: Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache, Petit Verdot, Sangiovese, Syrah, Petite Sirah, Merlot, & Mourvèdre.
Taking a moment to spotlight Will Mercer, the fourth generation to call these beautiful hills home, "It’s been a privilege representing Mercer to our wine partners in the industry and to wine enthusiasts across the country and abroad. I’m sure proud of our great team of people that are behind the brand from managing the vineyards, winemaking, office staff, tasting room, cellar team who make Mercer a great place we get to call home." -Will Mercer, VP of Sales and Marketing
Did you know we offer library wine flights? For $30 you can taste through vintages up to 15 years old. Tasting fees are waived with the purchase of a library bottle. This experience is available at both our Walla Walla and Prosser tasting rooms.
Biodiversity is so important. Here you see some beautiful Fernleaf Yarrow growing in between our vines. Yarrow hosts beneficial insects that help take care of pests.
2018 Small Lot Mourvèdre. Beautiful vintage, delicate grape--get it before it's gone. 99% Mourvèdre, 1% Syrah

One of the great joys of the farm is spotting wildlife, and oh boy is it abundant! We have over 1,000 acres of wildlife habitat dedicated to protecting and restoring native species. Today our farm is filled with jack rabbits, red tail hawks, white tail deer, pheasants, quails, chukars, rattlesnakes, beavers, bald eagles--just to name a few! The down side is our grapes are so delicious they like to eat them sometimes...
Family is what it's all about! Sam & Liz Elliot, our bright and intelligent mother-son duo. Liz is our Wine Club manager and Sam is our Enologist and Wine Tracker. A word from Liz, "Don and Linda Mercer are my parents and I and my 3 siblings grew up in the vineyards that our parents started planting on the family farm in 1972. Our parents created Mercer Ranch Vineyards in the mid 80’s which peaked my interest in winemaking. I decided to study at WSU in the food science program and after a harvest internship at The Hogue Cellars I was offered a job. I worked in the lab, wine tracking and procuring bottling line supplies and became an assistant winemaker. I met and married my husband Brad during the years that I worked at Hogue.
After having my second child, I decided to take a break from 10 years of winemaking and raise our children, which of course then we had one more. Our three children, Maggie, Henry and Sam are our greatest accomplishments and I am a proud mother of each of them. I am always thankful that I had the opportunity to take a step away and raise them. I have always enjoyed reading, cooking, travel and gardening. I cherish the moments our whole family gets together. I am a big advocate of agriculture education.
In 2014 Cousin Will asked me to come to work at Mercer Estates in the tasting room. Wow, what a learning curve! Coming back to the wine industry has been great. The Washington wine industry is full of thoughtful, kind people willing to share their knowledge and skills to make the whole industry better. My role at Mercer Estates has been greeting customers, pouring and selling wine and managing The Carma Club, our wine club named after our grandmother Carma Mercer. It has been a fun time learning this end of the wine business and meeting wine lovers from all over the world."
