Congratulations to our chapter Vice President Hayley Morss for being selected for the FFA in the USA program. She will be expected to present a new form of media every month on Arkansas FFA. Congratulations to the other individuals on this team as well.

Our President Sydney Canard, and Vice President, Hayley Morss spent this week at the Chapter President Conference. They learned new ways to lead and develop our chapter and brought back great memories. Cant wait to see all of the new ideas they bring into the 2024-2025 school year!

Independence County Fair 2024! David Burney cleaned house with his dairy goats and Annaleigh Mead brought home the hardware with her Hereford cattle. Sydney Canard also laid claim to a first place ribbon with her chickens and a second with her pig. Our kids put in a lot of work with their projects and the results show.

The Independence County Fair is off to a good start! David Burney won Grand Champion showman with his rabbits and placed in every class. The swine show is next item of business and that takes place tonight.

Members, Parents, and guests are invited to attend the Awards banquet for Southside FFA on Thursday May 16th at Colton's Steakhouse. All current Southside FFA members will eat for Free!

Yesterday was a big day for three of our young members. David Burney and Evan Brewer received their official FFA jackets through the LiveLikeJohnny Organization and Dakota Barker purchased her own. We are so proud of these members for making the investment in this organization and can’t wait to see where it will take them.

District CDE contest is in the books and the scores are official.
Southside FFA is State bound with Horse Evaluation! Lily Thacker, Lillian Reeves, Keelie Sandridge, and Lila Sherrill placed 7th to transfer to the State contest on April 4th. Poultry Evaluation and Farm Business teams missed the transfer spot by one and two positions, respectively. Ag Mechanics placed 17th, Livestock Evaluation was 18th, and Vet Science was 25th. It was a great effort for these first-year teams.

We had an exciting FFA week at Southside! Started on Tuesday with an area wide chapter night hosted by Batesville FFA and turned around the next day to head to Heber Springs for our first CDE contest of the year. We finished out the week with a couple our members earning their very own FFA jacket by reciting the FFA creed at Best Equipment, designing a fire pit to sell, and moving animals into the barn.

Happy FFA week!

We have a busy FFA week ahead of us.
Today, Tuesday, Our FFA members have been invited to join other local schools for bingo.

Wednesday, we have a practice CDE contest at Cleburne County, Heber. We are leaving at 7:50a.m. DONT FORGET permission slips.

Thursday, select 9th graders will be traveling to Best Equipment to say the creed and receive their FFA jackets.

The phrase “Living to Serve” has been a vital section to our FFA motto for over 50 years. Agricultural programs across our state and country devote time and efforts to helping their community become a better place for all.

Christmas party update!!

If the weather clears up and school is in session January 16, this coming up Tuesday, we will be having our Christmas party at 5:30 at the school. 9th- 10th grade is in charge of drinks and 11th-12th grade is in charge of finger foods.
We will keep everyone posted if school happens to get canceled.

Merry Christmas from our FFA family to yours!

This past week our Ag classes have been working really hard to build a fence around the barn so we can get animals. A little more work and it will be finished!

UPDATE: With everyone’s schedules being crazy due to Christmas and semester test we decided when we come back in January we will have our Christmas party. We will post the exact dates as soon as be can.

Today we closed out leadership contest season at Arkansas State University College of Agriculture for three of our LDE teams. Each was able to place in the top 15 in Eastern District competition! It was a great effort for each student and we are very proud of their accomplishments. Next up, chapter meeting tomorrow and chapter Christmas party next Thursday

What a day for a leadership contest! Southside FFA traveled to ASU Newport to complete in our Subarea Leadership Events. Shelby Wycough, Hunter Bishop, Evan Brewer and the Conduct of Chapter Meetings team have advanced and will compete in the district contest on December 6th

Last Friday several Southside FFA members made the trip to Norfork to compete in the Norfork FFA Alumni LDE. Hunter Bishop placed 1st in Extemporaneous Public Speaking! The Conduct of Chapter Meetings team placed third and Shelby Wycough was fourth in the Job Interview Skills contest.
