Today, I invite you to soften the harsh standards you hold yourself and others to. Can you pause, breathe, and give yourself a little love? Once upon a time, there was a woman who criticised her body.
She filled her calendar with weight loss goals.
She stepped on a scale every morning and evening.
She measured her bust, waist and hips every week.
She followed a strict diet, counting calories and kilojoules.
One day, she changed her mind.
She learned to love her body.
She fell in love with daily movement.
She fed her body with nourishing foods and beverages in small quantities.
She prioritised plants, proteins and healthy fats in her diet, but nothing was off limits.
And it was just the beginning… 💫🥂✨
This quote from Marshall Rosenberg’s Non-violent Communication- If it’s worth doing, it’s worth doing poorly- inspires me to action!
As a child, I was repeatedly told that if it’s worth doing, it’s worth doing well. The problem is that we can rarely do something well until we practice.
Expecting to do something unfamiliar well, or even to do something familiar consistently well, can place unrealistic expectations upon our shoulders.
Unrealistic expectations can create procrastination, inconsistency and self-sabotage.
I love the idea of doing things poorly. Progress trumps perfection.
Keep taking wildly imperfect steps in the direction of your goals and dreams. You’ll get there quicker when you encourage yourself to do the work poorly rather than aiming for perfection.
Say it with me:
I am what I am,
and what I am
is enough.
