I was so blessed last week to teach at the St. Paul Seminary to the 3rd year seminarians about archaeology and the Bible, focusing on the archaeological sites of Tall el Hammam (S***m) in Jordan and Shilo in Israel. What a wonderful group of young men! I am hoping the future generation of priests will pass on the faith with the conviction that the Bible narrative can be understood as real places and datable events.

Happy Feast Day of St. Helena, patron of archaeologists! I am sorting Iron Age pottery from the time of Solomon this week in Albuquerque at the research lab associated with Veritas school of archaeology. I’m in the PhD program.

Here is the latest news about the excavations on the floor of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem. The finds date to the 4th C AD just after Constantine built the Martyrian Church and the Holy Sepulchre plaza.

I am at Shilo and working with a wonderful team of people who love the Bible! For 5 season the Associates for Biblical Research have excavated at biblical Shilo. They take volunteers, so if you have an itch to dig next June, look for information on their website.

I will be heading out again to dig at the site of Shiloh, the place where the prophet Samuel was brought to the Tabernacle to serve the Lord as a young child by his mother, Hannah. I will be digging at one of the corners of a monumental structure that may be the foundations where the Tabernacle stood for 300+ years during the time of Judges.

I get the opportunity to dig at Tall el Hammam in Jordan in a few weeks! It is the biblical city of S***m. This will be the last season of digging there and then the fun begins of compiling the final report and the evidence relating to an airburst event that destroyed the city around 1700 BC.

BTW -- I'm pursuing a PhD in Near Eastern Archaeology and Bible History and my dissertation will have something to do with this interesting location.
