Just a quiet, delicate curd scoop before sunrise. Good way to start the day.

I have received a ton of messages lately about goat milk and the formula shortages. This is long, so if it does not apply to you, feel free to scroll on by!

First, I shouldn’t be your only (or main) source of info on this. Talk to your pediatrician, your naturopath, your current or former lactation consultant, your current or former birth team/doula/midwife. Talk to experts in infant feeding.

Second, goat milk is not a 1:1 substitute for infant formula.

Third, if you are confident in your formula recipe and your experts agree, please buy from a state licensed dairy.

We started seeing an increase in milk orders a couple weeks ago- large quantities that were impossible to fill on time and still honor our preorders. It’s part of why our online store and farm pickups are temporarily halted. It’s tough, because I wish I could do more. But part of what makes our milk and cheese great is that we only work with what our herd produces. We don’t buy outside milk and I cannot just “buy more goats”.

I know of a few other dairies that currently have goat milk, and I’m happy to refer you. Just shoot me a message if you need a recommendation.

Here’s to all the mamas! Becoming and being a mother is one of the hardest jobs there is. We see you and we appreciate you. Happy Mothers Day!

Farm update and photo dump! It’s been a minute, so let me catch you guys up…

We finished the bulk of our kidding season with no major problems and some beautiful new kids- hooray! For some reason this was the year of the huge singles (2-4 kids is more common for us 🤷‍♀️). So we didn’t end up with as many kids available for sale, but mamas and babies are all happy/healthy and I’ll take that any day.

This past Monday we had a bad storm with high winds and a possible (unconfirmed) tornado. We were lucky, but still ended up with a neighbor’s carport tearing through our pasture and taking out a couple fences. All animals and people are fine, but we’ve got some fence repair to do before we can use those pastures again.

This meant that all the dry does and yearlings moved to the dairy yard and pasture. The youngsters have decided they like the extra alfalfa over here, but the milkers are a bit confused at the new competition. It’s a lot of goats in one spot.

But, production is up and I’m filling orders as fast as I can! For now, we are keeping online order pick ups to Thursday evenings and Sunday afternoons.

We’ve got some fun things planned for this spring/summer as we approach our ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY of being your local goat dairy & creamery.

We’ve started calling him Monster.

At 2 days old, Cantaloupe’s buckling is as big as our week old kids! 😳

Don’t let this sweet little face fool you, he’s the biggest, flashiest, and loudest kid out there. Got some strong genetics on this one. Can’t wait to see him grow!

It’s been a whirlwind of kids over here!

Maria had triplets yesterday and I was lucky enough to have three little helpers for the birth. Life lessons and memories made. 🥰

The 2017 USDA National Census of Agriculture reported that about 38% of farms in Texas were owned or led by a woman.

The next census is in 2022 and I can’t wait to see that number rise. At least by one.

On this International Women’s Day I’m raising a glass to the women owned and women run businesses (in ag and otherwise), farms, ranches, food producers, makers, and creators all over Texas.

Texas women get s**t done.

A few months ago I found some dairy equipment for sale. It was far far away, but this set up would make the daily grind a little less stressful on me. So I’ve been deep in planning mode on how to make it happen.

More on the equipment to come. But when I pitched it to Kyle- the idea of flying, renting a truck, loading up an entire processing system, and then making a looong drive home, I expected some resistance. But he’s always up for an adventure and agreed to accompany me on this hair brained idea. 🤪

Marathon is a funky little west Texas town full of charm and some fine people. Cowboys, artists, oilmen, out of towners, and free spirits- all sharing the desert, each other's talents, and good company. Felt very peaceful in a world full of uncertainty.

It’s a huge production to be able to leave the farm for a couple days, but I’m so glad we made it happen this weekend.

Back to the usual goat shenanigans tomorrow!

Farmstead Chèvre.

Monday’s milk is transformed into Tuesday’s curd. On Wednesday it’s lightly salted and packed. Chèvre as fresh as it gets.

And back by popular request- 8oz servings!

Early morning scoop. These fluffy beauties will be hung to drain for a few hours before being packaged up for deliveries tomorrow.

As fresh as it gets.

Hey y’all, here are TWO easy ways to get some fresh goat milk and farmstead chèvre in your life.

Friendly reminder that our storefront at the dairy in Scurry is open by appointment or scheduled pick up time only. I am happy to work with you to find a good time. Browse the site, place an order, or shoot me a message and we’ll find a time that works.

Closer to Rockwall? Join the Rockwall Farmers Co-Op! Tons of amazing vendors and delicious options. Check the site for details.

Either way, you can feel good about keeping your grocery dollars local and getting healthy, REAL food straight from the farm in the process.

Sweet little dog-eared Aimee!

We have a handful of Alpine Nubian crosses. Honestly, they’re great milkers. This pretty lady just hit over 700 days in this lactation. That’s almost 2 straight years!

She’s not showing any signs of stopping, but if/when she does, we’ll give her a well earned break (and throw her a damn party). Until then, we’ll keep showing up for her everyday.

Yes, her ears are ridiculous. No, I don’t care that she’s a mutt. She’s the sweetest little pocket goat and I love her with my whole heart.

Oh GiGi! She’s the pretty face on our logo and one of the first goats we ever brought home. She’s the queen of this herd and makes sure everyone knows it. 👑 A bit of an attitude but no one’s overthrown her reign yet!

She last kidded in Feb 2020 and is still one of our top producers in milk quantity and quality. We test each goat’s milk individually for things like butterfat, protein, somatic cells, etc and GiGi consistently keeps great numbers.

She has two daughters that will freshen (have kids) for the first time this year and I can’t wait. Hopefully they’ll be rockstars just like their mama. Kidding season kicks off in March!

Happy New Year you beautiful goat lovers. Let’s make it a good one.

24/12/2021

Merry Christmas from our family to yours!

We are so grateful for y’all. It’s been a hell of a year, and we’re thankful to be where we are. We’ll be back making cheese and filling orders next week. Until then, we hope you enjoy your holidays!

07/12/2021

Wow is all I have to say! I had to temporarily turn off online ordering for farm pick ups.

As of right now, every single drop of milk produced on this farm is accounted for in orders this week and into next. 🤯

But fear not! You have TWO chances to find us at a market this Saturday. Kyle will be slinging cheese at Standard Service in Heath from 10-2. I will be at Fresh Market in Kaufman from 9-1. Come shop early, because we’ll both have limited supply. But we’re so excited to see your smiling faces!

BRB, going to go happy sob into the scruff of a goat’s neck and then get back to work because, woah.

04/12/2021

Anyone that has spent much time around dairy goats will tell you they’re sweet, funny, stubborn, mischievous. They’ve got big personalities and it’s easy to fall in love with them.

Hard headedness and a penchant for learning things the hard way seem to run deep in this household, so once the fire of goat dairying was lit, we were all in. 🤪

The daily grind doesn’t always look as we expected, but it’s a labor of love. This crew (human and hooved) can bring a smile to my face any day.

Playing a small part in putting nutrient dense, real food on people’s tables is a big part of the payoff. We’re humbled and honored that so many of you have chosen Farm Stoehr to supply your goat milk and chèvre. Happy customers help make happy farmers!

25/11/2021

Hope you’re totally squished by lots of love and good food today!

We have so much to be thankful for this year. I’m particularly grateful for YOU! Happy Thanksgiving friends.

20/11/2021

Laurel and Bamboozle are here to tell you that it’s our last market day at in Heath! Come see us from 10-2 for your Thanksgiving chèvre.

Can’t make it out today? We still have pickup times at the dairy this week. Order online to schedule yours!

Farm Stoehr Coming Soon

Welcome to Farm Stoehr Goat Dairy. If you don’t know us, or haven’t heard by now, we left Dallas and moved to beautiful Scurry, TX to build our dream of a family owned and operated goat dairy and creamery.

We have spent the last several years planning our business, designing our farm, and growing our goat herd. As we finally enter a new phase of construction, we want to thank all our mentors, friends, and family who have helped us so far.

While we pursue all of the licenses required by this great state, we have been (and will continue) sharing our lives on social media with you. Once we are fully operational, we will be offering hand crafted, specialty goat cheeses, fresh milk, and regular class and event opportunities to come enjoy this land, these goats, and this life. We hope you’ll follow along with us!
