Mosquitoes really bite! Mosquitoes inject their saliva into your blood when feeding, which your body then treats as an allergen and sends histamine in an attempt to remove it. This is what causes bites to itch and swell. Thankfully, there are ways to reduce the discomfort. The CDC Recommends:
• Wash the bite and surrounding area with soap and water.
• Apply an ice pack for 10 minutes at a time to reduce itching and inflammation, repeat as needed
• Apply a mixture of baking soda and water (1 tablespoon baking soda and just enough water to create a paste) which can help reduce the itchiness. Leave paste on bite for 10 minutes and then wash off.
• Mix 1 tablespoon baking soda with just enough water to create a paste.
• Use an over-the-counter anti-itch or antihistamine cream as directed to soothe itching.
