Front Row Nurse
Perma-student in full effect
🚨SOAPBOX ALERT🚨
My new school requires all students (even the old ones 😆) to complete an alcohol/substance use awareness course through . I definitely grumbled about it at first because I’m way beyond that phase of my life, but I was SO GLAD to see this ☝️slide as part of the presentation.
For a long, LONG time, the narrative following a sexual assault focused heavily on what victims should or should not have done to protect themselves from a sexual assault. Oftentimes a victim would have been deemed “deserving” of such an assault because of alcohol consumption, clothing, location, etc.
This slide and messages like it, on the other hand, help to shift the narrative back to the aggressor and says “IT IS NOT OK FOR YOU TO ASSAULT SOMEONE BECAUSE ITS NOT OK FOR YOU TO ASSAULT SOMEONE.” Consumption, clothing, location are utterly IRRELEVANT and I 👏am 👏so 👏HERE 👏 for 👏it👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏.
Thanks, people, for shining a light on this important distinction, and thanks to my school for making this part of the alcohol awareness course and a requirement for all! (True story—I completed the entire thing to the sounds of Doc McStuffins in the background and can’t remember the last time I got wasted 🤣)
But I’m really good at crossing over...so 💁♀️
Hanging out with and today!
We’ve been called up from the farm league. 💪🏻💪🏻
Keep on keepin’ on!
Me: I have to write this research paper for school.
My 5yo: 🦄
I had no idea these beds exist and certainly didn’t expect to be strapped into one today, but that’s for ya!
This is amazing! Thanks, !

My son often snags my phone and takes 867 blurry photos of the carpet, but sometimes he lifts it up and we get things like this. This photo breaks my heart. This is the quintessential “mom doesn’t have time to play right now so here’s this screen and the back of my head” shot. Ugh it makes me feel awful. I hope he understands someday.
YES I AM 👩🎓
Umm, you guys!
Staring down my final semester like
Everyone says your 3rd semester of nursing school is really hard but that it will fly by...but that hasn’t been my experience. It was incredibly hard, that’s true, but it’s felt like an uphill slog since about week 5 and it certainly did not fly. I have my MedSurg final on 12/23 and after that I plan on going dark until the end of January. So for those of you who actually read these, see ya on the flip side and good luck on your finals. I’m rooting for you! 💪🏻✌🏻👍🏻👏🏻
Stand back, you’re about to do some learnin’. 🧦🧦 😂😂
Study when you can 😂Maybe my kids (and husband) will glean a cursory understanding of anatomy because of it? 🤷♀️
💔x💯
File this one under “Things Nursing School Has Made Me Think” except rest assured there’s a whole lotta swearing included in my head. Med Surg has completely shaken my confidence as an effective learner. I feel like I don’t know how to study anymore.
Have , will travel.
Everything hurts.
I made a FB group to share helpful educational content for nursing school—just Search for Front Row Nurses. It’s not a sales pitch, it’s not a bait and switch, and I promise to never ask you to be a patreon or to pay me for exclusive content. Tell your fellow nursing school friends and let’s see what kind of cool stuff we can teach each other.
Who wore it better?! 🌈
My 6 year old drew this. I think it might be a bunny with wings and an unstageable abdominal wound (..?) but it’s smiling and I think it’s cute so I taped it to my laptop as a reminder of why I’m doing this.
It’s easy to get caught up in the insanity, you guys. I’ve been feeling recently that it’s my obligation to help find solutions for problems that I didn’t create—which is silly.
Starting today, I refocus on squeezing the most of out of each educational opportunity. It’s MY education and I intend on making it as fulfilling and valuable as I possibly can. That’s what’s on me, and nothing else. 💫⭐️💫
EXTRA REM CYCLES 💰😴💰😴💰😴💰
Anyone else a two-legged jungle gym for their kid(s)? Not pictured: 4 year old under the table tickling my feet. 🤣🤪
HOW many practice tests?!
Last week I found that I was having trouble remembering all of the things I should be head-to-toe assessing during clinical. The worksheets provided by school were fine, just not the best for my brain so I found myself saying “CRAP I forgot to check that” more often than I’d like. I wanted something that had a patient diagram so I could doodle in IVs, mark surgical sites or make a note of pressure injuries, etc. I’m a visual learner so this was crucial for me. I didn’t find anything I really liked on the Internet, so I made one! (Sorry about the crummy image quality, I had a heck of a time getting it from my PC to my iPhone intact 🧐🙄) What do you think??
Waaahhh
