Although in the 70’s the Dallas Cowboys wore crop too and short skirts that wasn’t everywhere, most of the teams ditched the itchy sweaters and short sleeves and tank top became more popular.

The first super bowl was in the late 1960-1970’s, the Dallas Cowboys were the first NFL cheer team. Rocking the cow boots and crop tops 🤠🐴💙

As the years progress teenagers started to become more rebellious. During the 60’s when the Vietnam war was forcing young men to leave school to go fight, many countercultures sprung up. Rock music became more popular and kids became more rebellious by smoking, cutting their hair short and showing off some leg. With clothing changing to become more revealing so did the cheer skirts.

They still wore wool varsity jackets but now the skirts became a bit shorter, with shorter skirts made it easier to do more tricks like kick lines, jumps and stunts.

In the 1950's the National Cheer Association was formed. Now there was a place for cheerleaders to come together and a wide spread sport. Now the cheerleaders went from being called yell squads to cheerleaders.

1948 :) The uniform included wool varsity jackets, thick and long skirts, ankle socks and tennis shoes. The squad yelled chants and made pyramids.

The 1940's is when the second world war broke out and many men had to leave school again. This time women stepped up and took charge. They worked in factories, stores and on farms. Women also stepped up in the cheer world. The teams changed from being majority male to mainly female.

Pompom's were created in the 1930's they were originally called Pompons

The 1930's women became a big part of the yell squads. Men and women started interacting more in schools. Although these "Yell squad" were not a organized all over the country.

Flash Forward to the 1920's the roaring 20's. Teens become rebellious, they drank, smoked and DANCED! Girls cut their hair short to be risky and flappers, beautiful dancers. The war was over and the economy was booming.

In the late 1910's war hit the United States, World war one broke out and many men had to leave college to go fight in the war. At this time women were viewed as to delicate and to pretty to play or be in anytime of clubs, but more men started to leave making room for women to slowly join into the yell squads.
