Confidence Is Catchy

I believe in building a better world with confident women and that confidence is attainable in all areas of life... even when life seems hard. In fact, this is exactly where confidence is born!

2023 has been one of the hardest years of my life. I have learned more than I ever wanted to in what I am now un-affectionately calling "Elder Care University". I have all but put my coaching business on hold waiting for the moment I could take a breath. It's October this weekend and I don't think I've found that moment yet!

Taking care of an aging parent with rapidly advancing dementia and multiple health issues in the current medical system in the US is the biggest challenge I have ever faced. I am making it look manageable but, many days, it is not.

I am incredibly lucky to be able to hire great people, that my mom has friends that come to visit/call/write and that I could secure a safe place for her to transition into as quickly and smoothly as I did after her disastrous fall in early January.

EVERY SINGLE DAY I am painfully reminded of the privilege that our family has simply by being able to provide this level of care for her. My mom scrimped and saved her entire adult life to leave a financial legacy and it will be all but swallowed up by her health care costs.

Inside of me there is so much gratitude that she saved and invested well and also a vast well of anger that she had to. She denied herself so much pleasure to have that nest egg. And now, her life has only little pleasures left. You can't help but dwell on how really unfair it all seems when it is in your face every day.

I ache for the generations after hers that don't have the pensions, the well invested retirement accounts, the robust safety net programs and the family support that would allow them to navigate this kind of family crisis.

As for my year, I have become a fierce advocate with her doctors. I have befriended her nurses. I have petitioned for changes within her assisted living facility. I have called out unsafe conditions in the rehab facilities she visited. I have learned how to do household employee payroll and navigate the Social Security labyrinth. And SO MUCH MORE. I slay dragons daily.

My confidence grows with each medical challenge, financial obstacle and time crunch that this disease requires me to vanquish. Despite all that effort, my confidence won't cure her.

But it will make her last years, months and days on this rock the best they CAN be. And as far as I am concerned right now, that qualifies as "changing the world" even if it is just HER little world that looks different.

Confidence is my superpower. And I stand by my belief that if more women had it, the world would be massively better off for it. When I am done changing her constantly narrowing world for the better, I will be back at changing the rest of it. Then we will ALL shine. Hold off the dragons for me until then, friends!

If you are wondering where I have been, my social media hiatus since Valentine's Day was needed because I was out kicking ass at taking care of my family. When s**t hits the fan, people like me come in to clean house!

Someday soon I will be ready to tell the tale of the nursing home drama that consumed the better part of a month and the miraculous turn of events that left me dazed at my capability to manifest those miracles. I am still processing what happened and I am not done creating big waves of change over it all. These things take time.

A little groundhog says Spring is coming!

Here in CT, we have a groundhog at the kid's museum that gets brought out into the sun on this day and by some miracle, today there was no shadow. Now, I don't know that I believe such hoopla but I do believe in a good spring-like day to get me excited for what I think is the BEST season!

Winter is a tough time for me in so many ways and although I grin and bear it, I spend a good deal of the winter months wishing I was somewhere else.

This is the stuff that big, audacious goal setting is made of: DISCOMFORT.

So, I can sit here a few more weeks and pine for the warmer weather AND ALSO I can make big plans to not have to pine away for warm weather in my life later on.

i can be grounded and secure in where I am, AND ALSO plan to make big moves.

I can be chill with the current situation AND ALSO strive for something better.

Your discomfort is here for a reason: Motivation.

The things you wish were different are the desires you may not be honest with yourself about.

Dichotomy is holding BOTH the now and the someday.

Embrace both parts of you. Give voice to your "one day I will..." story.

Mine is "One day I will be warm all winter". What's yours?

Desire Affirmation #6: I will clearly communicate my desires to the people in my life in a safe and grounded manner.

Kind of hard to get what you desire if you are unwilling to tell people what that is.

And sometimes YOU don't even know and that's ok.

But once you DO know, you have to say it. People don't get hints. The universe isn't as likely to work on your secret dream. You have to say it out loud to SOMEONE.

Now, that doesn't mean you have to tell everyone today or even tell ALL of it, especially if you feel unsafe. Pick your people. Pick your time. Pick your place. Pick your message. You are the one in control, here.

Find the words, set the stage, sit your audience down and be authentic. Desires often need human help to come to fruition. Humans need direction to act.

You could direct the people around you to orchestrate a tapestry of desire fulfilling possibilities if they ONLY KNEW what is is you want to experience!
