Hirschfeld Hops
We are an Ohio hopyard! We're members of the Ohio Hop Grower's Guild.
All to bed, dryer's on.
Harvest day #1 underway with some extra help today β€οΈ
Come on out! 10-2 for our open house. We'll be busy picking and teaching today.
Pre-harvest moisture testing for our fuggle today. Looking to be in the optimal window this week- you may even catch us selecting bines to harvest during the open house Saturday!
Update: 23%. Fuggle runs this week. Come to the open house Saturday to see harvest in action. π« π»πͺπ
She's not a big drinker. But Abigail says these smell good! Moisture testing now to see how close harvest is!
Enjoying the quiet after rain. Soon, we will begin harvest.
Ooh boy these fuggle plants are looking ππ
Consider joining us on Saturday July 22 to see what Ohio hops are all about π»
Two weeks until the hopyard Open House!
We like to see all plants reach the top wire by the summer solstice (yesterday) and we have quite a few that are there. Some are a little behind, but so is the sumer weather π We are also starting to see burrs- this is the first stage of the hop cone production. Check out the Centennial plants in these pictures π
Take a look at the hopyard on this beautiful day! We have some overachieving bines that are over top wire and throwing side arms and we have some making us patiently wait for the summer solstice to do so. The 2" of rain was a nice break for our irrigation system, but did not help with the w**d pressure π«€π€·ββοΈ
Overall a great day in the hopyard β€οΈπ»
We gotta say: the new well and source line (1" @ 60 psi) are making all the difference this spring. We can drip about 1000 gallons per hour (yes, 1000) and the household water pressure doesn't waver at all. Woo, baby, bring on the heat and some beautiful Ohio hops.
Thanks also to neighbors who run over and then the water off when we forget to and leave for a day trip. ππ¬π«‘.
It has been a long day of training the hops today 16/23 rows done β
οΈ
Feeding and watering the hops on the docket along with the last 7 rows tomorrow π»
That's a wrap! Stringing 2023 in the books π»
Time to look at w**d management, irrigation, stock fertilizer and wait for the hops to grow a bit before we start to train them up the coir.
Grow season is upon us- ready or not here it comes.
These gloves are only good for ~1600 knots, not the 2000 I was hoping for. IYKYK.
A beautiful day for more strings! About 1200+/- done and about 800 to go. Once we finish stringing, then we will start the process of training. Then the hops will grow, grow, grow. π»
Beautiful day for stringing! Lost count on strings π€ͺ somewhere over 1000 to go
Next round of craft brewers, alright!!! π«‘π»
What happens when it is unusually quiet and calm? We string! This is the earliest we have ever started stringing, but also the calmest NW Ohio has been in about a month π taking advantage while we can π»
300 strings up today, 1700 to go
St. paddy's Day is running full tilt at Walking Distance Brewing Co. Look at these beautiful local Ohio folks. .
It is March - usually, we are still prepping our equipment and making a plan for the year. This year, the hops are a little ahead of schedule - starting to see the smallest purple buds in the yard. Before we know it, we will be stringing and training π³

Hanging out at Restoration Brew Worx dropping off hops and drinking some damn good beer π» Clinton recommends the Azaccaho
And with that- we are sold out of Centennial from the 2022 season.
Grab some Buck while you can! Lots of nice centennial in there, grown here in New Knoxville! π»
Buckongehlas IPA is back on tap after a brief hiatus and we even canned a little bit! Available in the tap room only.
We also canned up a fresh batch of Respect The Fuzz! This will be headed out to retailers next week. You can snag some four packs in the tap room this weekend.
Open today 3pm-10pm
Can't argue with that! π»
Our brews are basically salad right?π€·ββοΈ
Open today 12pm-12am
There is something to be said about having a fantastic pint of beer from Second Crossing Brew Co. with supper, just a few hundred feet from the hops that make it extra delicious. Even though the hop-growing year is slowed down as the ladies sleep, the rest of life continues to speed along. Cheers to 2023 and beyond. .

A little throwback to this summer when the hops were maturing on the bine. Now these beauties are pelletized and making their way into a brew with Restoration Brew Worx π»
Thanks to our friends within the Ohio Hop Growers Guild for helping make the connection and for putting Ohio Hops into Ohio Brews β€οΈ
Big things are on the move!!! We got our new well in and hooked up thanks to Quinter Well Drilling LLC ! These guys are awesome and provide great service. Hops are thirsty little ladies (in July), so now is a good time to upgrade our infrastructure. It sure made us thirsty watching it all go down! π»
I had a nice stop at Walking Distance Brewing Co. For a beer and jello shot made with house seltzer. Be sure to check them out as part of the MORA in Marysville. Keep checking back to see what our Ohio centennial and comet hops can do in a beer. π» .
Friday night hop drop for our friends at Gongoozlers Brewery in New Bremen. Ohio fuggle in this fantastic imperial stout, Loramie Summit, on nitro. π» .
Congrats to our friend at Southern Ohio Brewing on their beer wins and being voted best brewery in their region πππ»π»

After a long couple of weeks picking hops, a Friday night at Second Crossing Brew Co. For drinks and supper and board games is a nice change of pace.
Tucking these beauties into the dryer for the night. 500 strings down today π₯΅
It all started...
We have always been passionate about agriculture. After meeting at a Farm Bureau summer camp (there used to be such a thing), we quickly formed dreams and big ideas about stealing away to the country to raise a family and make our mark in agriculture somehow. Clinton has a few other loves in his life: namely family, farming, and beer. What started as a small stand of hops for homebrewing in past years has recently become something much bigger! Tired of growing a few bushels of corn and soybeans on our small field, we decided to plant poles, plant hops, and grow some beer. Weβre very excited for the chance to provide local brewers and homebrewers with seasonally fresh hops (brewers, Iβd love to do a state-of-origin wet-hop seasonal in the fall)! Weβre also planning for high-quality hops for use throughout the year. Stay tuned for open houses, field walks, and hop-picking parties. Weβre so excited for all the support and blessed to be on this road together.
Many thanks,
C & D.
