What’s the responsive action after the second deadliest school shooting in our country’s history? The deadliest in our state’s history? How do we respond to this tragedy?
It starts and ends with the kids. For those precious lives murdered at school, they cannot respond; the fight ends for the 18 kids. For those precious lives impacted by a relative/peer/friend/neighbor/student/soul’s murder at school, we have the privilege and duty to respond. Our response starts today. Our response for the kids starts today.
We may not see radical gun reform in our lifetime. Voting and advocating for gun restrictions is important work, but clearly that hasn’t been enough. Our actions today will determine the trajectory of gun control for our children’s lifetime. As difficult as it is, those who are not victims of this mass murder at school have the privilege to react and respond. Will the initial reaction be fight/flight/freeze? Maybe. How can we move forward and help each other be accountable and respnd intentionally? It starts and ends with our kids.
As adults, parents, teachers, counselors, we must model the action we want to see; we must start by helping kids unpack the violence and talk about how gun violence impacts them. Hug your students. Grieve the students and teacher in your school community. Talk with your community. Talk with your kids. Take action.
Talking to Children About Violence: Tips for Parents and Teachers High profile acts of violence, particularly in schools, can confuse and frighten children who may feel in danger or worry that their friends or loved-ones are at risk. They will look to adults for inf...
🤩 What a magical weekend!
🌳Forest bathing with
🌈 sound healing with
☀️light circle gathering with .priestley
⚡️Akashic reading with .sohtis
🎶 campfire singing with songwriter
and🧘🏻♀️yoga practice with me .yoga
🥰I was incredibly touched when KP asked me to teach yoga for the group. She requested that the practice include acknowledging abundance, connecting with community, and moving into one’s soul purpose. After reflecting on her request, it seemed all of these areas connect back to intentional trust.
The theme of intentional trusting was interwoven in the yoga practice with self-led pranayama, choices of poses and variations, restorative poses with props, and connection of community during a group tree pose.
🌞What a lovely gift to share a yoga practice with this group. We all left the gathering inspired to shine a bit brighter for ourselves and beautiful communities. ❤️ Big love to KP for planning this weekend gathering.

Our little dude was a little dinosaur yesterday 🎃. When trick-or-treating, we let LD pick out a piece of candy from a neighbor’s bowl of treats as he enjoys grabbing objects at this age. After scanning the bowl, LD promptly grabbed a mini Reese's peanut butter cup - wongo86 ‘s favorite! It was one of many precious moments yesterday. Mama only shed a few tears 😭.
As I sit here reflecting on yesterday's sweet moments, I'm also oh-so-very sleep-deprived from our week-long camping trip to the Ozark National Forest. And what a week we had! Stay tuned for our post in our IG page to learn more about our recent trip. Check it out if you want to follow our family’s adventure in our truck camper.
On our trip, we had many folks admire LD telling us how precious this time is (among the common remark, “Look at all that HAIR!”). Although my initial response to them was, “You must have forgotten how long the days are if you're telling me this!”, I know now that what they say is true: the days are long but the years are short. After this week, it's no surprise that we have some catching up to do in the sleep department, but we also have many new memories to savor. And, yes, time sure is flying by with our little dude.
A special thanks to Nana D & Poppy for housing us weary travelers and for hosting LD’s first Halloween!
It’s time to redefine what ‘successful’ means.

Many thanks to AISD teacher, Caroline Sweet, for her amazing testimony at AISD’s public hearing. It caught CNN’s attention (see EA’s video below). Public health and safety are not meant to a political issue up for debate. However, when we face injustice, we must be brave and share our experiences. Our stories matter.
"I don't want to talk about politics anymore; I want to keep my kids safe." - Caroline Sweet, teacher and Education Austin leader, on CNN's Don Lemon Live advocating for Austin ISD to institute a mask mandate last night.
