EHV-1 case in Lier

The Belgian federation wishes to communicate a case of EHV-1 during last weekend's CSI2* at the Azelhof in Lier.

On Saturday, February 18, the horse of a rider from Ukraine showed symptoms of EHV.
The horse was immediately isolated and a swap was taken.
On Sunday morning, the horse was already much better and left for its home stable in Germany together with 4 other horses from the same German stable.

On Monday evening, February 20, the results of the swap were received and it was a case of EHV-1.

The following measures were taken in the meantime:

• The 26 remaining horses from the stable complex where the one horse was located in Lier have been blocked in the FEI database. After a procedure of negative swap tests over a fixed period of time, they will be able to be unblocked.
• FEI is going to communicate with those responsible for the horses that were present in Lier week 1 and 2 asking them to follow up their horses extra.
• The OC has already taken all possible measures to disinfect the stables according to the rules.
• The FEI has appointed a veterinary delegate who will check on site to make sure everything is safe for the next competition.

All parties involved responded quickly and accurately. Together with the FEI, all safety protocols are now being followed up.

Hobustel esineb üheksa erinevat herpesviiruse tüve, millest EHV-1 on kõige ohtlikum, põhjustades nii hingamisteede haigestumist, aborte kui ka täiskasvanud hobuste neuroloogilist haigestumist. Viimane võib lõppeda hobuse surmaga. Hiljutised EHV-1 juhtumid avastati võistlushobustel Belgias ja Hispaanias.

Lühike meelespea:
• EHV-1 võib nakatada kõiki hobuseid
• Viirus levib piisknakkusena hobuste vahelise otsekontakti kaudu, kuid ka saastunud varustuse, treilerite ja inimeste vahendusel
• Keskkonnas püsib viirus nakatamisvõimelisena kuni 7 päeva
• Viiruse peiteaeg on 24 tundi kuni 10 päeva (enamasti lühem)
• Vaktsineerimine ei hoia ära närvivormi teket, kuid vähendab viiruse levikut hobuste seas
• Viiruse leviku varaseks avastamiseks tuleb kõiki hobuseid kaks korda päevas kraadida. Täiskasvanud hobuse normaalne kehatemperatuur on kuni 38.2 °C
• Peamisteks haigustunnusteks on palavik, läbipaisva ninanõre esinemine, pea piirkonna lümfisõlmede suurenemine ja harvemini köha. Närvinähtudena esineb nõrkus, koordinatsioonihäired, urineerimishäired ja lamama jäämine
• Haiguskahtlased hobused tuleb teistest eraldada
• Haigust saab tuvastada ninanõre tampooniproovist, mida analüüsitakse viiruse DNA esinemisele – proovi saab võtta loomaarst, Eestis analüüsitakse proove Riigi Laboriuuringute ja Riskihindamise Keskuses (endine Veterinaar- ja Toidulaboratoorium)
• Kindlasti tuleb erilist tähelepanu pöörata Euroopast Eestisse transporditavatele hobustele. Kõiki talli toodud hobuseid on soovitav kraadida ja võimalusel nad kaheks nädalaks teistest hobustest eraldada.
