We are also currently having a 15% off sitewide sale so you can get all your VINTA ready-to-wear items AND contribute to families in Gaza.

Last weekend while the world watched the Super Bowl, Israel began bombing Rafah, the southernmost part of Gaza, Palestine. Rafah currently holds more than 1.4 million people and is one of the most densely populated areas in the world. Israel “promised” Palestinians that Rafah was a “safe zone”, but Israel has lied so many times, why would they tell the truth now? They’ve killed more than 28,000 Palestinians, including 10,000+ children, since October 7 alone, and over 65,000 since before the Nakba.

Every time I think about Palestine, my heart breaks. It’s a privilege to be able to speak out and attend protests, but the truth is countries that hold the most power (USA, UK, Germany) don’t give a f**k about the millions of lives they’ve destroyed as long as they gain profits from this genocide. They continue to support Israel despite the thousands who oppose these political ties, even when countries call for a ceasefire, even when South Africa brought Israel to court, they don’t give a f**k. Zionists won’t stop until all of Palestinian people and their histories and religious practices and schools and hospitals and traditions and agriculture have been decimated.

Recently, the prime ministers of Canada, Australia, and New Zealand issued a joint statement to call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, telling Israel that they “must listen to its friends.” Friends… , if you are friends of Israel, you are enemies to humanity. Call for a ceasefire, but you must also sever all ties with Israel. It’s not enough to say something but still continue to fund genocide. Arms embargo now.

My heartbreak turns into anger, turns into desperation, and though sometimes I feel helpless, we still fight. We will never stop fighting for Palestine. We will never stop fighting for Sudan, Congo, Haiti, and all oppressed folks for freedom from their oppressors and end colonialism. I hope you won’t, too.

From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free.
- Danica

What would it be like to go out of your way to the mom-and-pop shop instead of an established corporate business?

“It simply might not run that deep for you but when we step outside ourselves for a second, considering how things are made and how it got to you is a worthwhile thought to chase. If we have to participate in an often unfair capitalistic society, questioning if something we buy aligns with our values is the least we can do. After all, the first step of a revolution is recognizing that something has to change.”

: Ana Serrano in VINTA Couture

Aside from being one of the producers of Prison Dancer (), Ana Serrano () is also the president and Vice-Chancellor of OCAD University. The dress she’s wearing is a modified version of the Drape Front Terno, which Ana ordered as an homage to her lola who had a gorgeous wardrobe of chic ternos in the 1960s. We made an edgier version to suit Ana’s personal style with the tri-colour pleated tulle, and latex-look bodice and underlayer (of the skirt) which she paired with black platform boots. It’s giving Ariel and Ursula Disney anti-princess 😌🖤

APOLAKI: OPERA OF THE SCORCHED EARTH is a new experimental opera by Filipino-American composer Micaela Tobin in collaboration with installation designer Carlo Maghirang, costume designer Caroline Mangosing, and dancer/choreographer Jay Carlon. Continuing her celebration of the pre-colonial mythologies of the Philippines, Tobin’s new work tells the story of Apolaki, the precolonial God of Sun and War, who finds themself lost in a foreign and unfamiliar land (present day Tongva Land/Los Angeles) after being displaced from the Philippines by Spanish colonizers. This opera is a radical meditation on the complex relationships between settler colonialism, migration, and diaspora, and invites the audience to join Apolaki in this immersive pilgrimage, premiering at the historic and storied Zorthian Ranch overlooking the Los Angeles Basin.

Hi Vinta Friends. We’re still here. Still fighting. Still rebelling. Still working.

We’re in the streets AND the office, kasi we still have to run a business and make sure that our ppl get paid and fed. We’re in this for the long haul.

Here’s a pic of me cussing out a Z!on!st at Gal Gadont’s whack screening, and wearing a shirt that will be released soon. The more I learn about history, the more confident I feel in my convictions. It informs my rage, grounds my practice, and invigorates my commitment. I hope this empowers you the same way that our barongs and ternos do. Know your f**king history. Power to the mf ppl.

XOXO,
Syd

*not debating folks that don’t know a sliver of history lol.

In the spirit of decolonizing and FAHM, we would like to highlight Morro Bay and its usage as a point of celebration.

I remember when I first noticed the diaspora celebrating Filipinos as the first documented Asians in the US, I thought to myself, "1587 sounds like a skep year to celebrate.." After a quick google, I unsurprisingly found out that it was a colonization expedition headed by Spain during their occupation of the Philippines. In addition, both Luzon Indians (the people we recognize as the first landing of Filipinos) and Chumash people (indigenous natives to Morro Bay) died at this attempt of colonization. Is this something to be proud of?

The critical analysis of October 18, 1587 is ESPECIALLY relevant to current events and the Palestinian Liberation because it forces us to examine our own history and what decolonizing looks like for all occupied communities. I love the cultural renaissance the Filipinx diaspora is currently having, but decolonizing (which has many many forms) must also be at the forefront. Decolonizing is inherently celebrating, because it the process of CRITICAL preservation of our culture and history.

Peace and Liberation for ALL folx.

A rally call to my Kapwa:

As a Filipinx-Jewish-American, it is my responsibility to call my Kapwa in right now. I wrote about my feelings and how I am ashamed and embarrassed at how largely silent the Filipino diasporic community in the US has been amidst the global crisis at hand, especially during Filipino American History Month. “From Palestine to the Philippines, stop the US war machine!”

Don’t tell me this ethnic cleansing does not apply to you. If you don’t like what we have to say, then unfollow us. Those who cower in “neutrality” as we watch genocide happen in real time do not deserve to wear our clothes.

STAND UP.

Read the blog for my full statement. I included some easy resources to read and watch about the occupation to help provide historical context for those who don’t know where to start, or are searching for more.

May tomorrow bring us more justice and peace.

- Syd

Kicked off Filipino-American History Month at the Gala this weekend with some of our VINTA friends 💕

Big big shoutout to for all the hard work they do for the Filipinx community. 51 years of Filipinx youth programming, mental health services, and affordable housing services. Community care requires us to show up for each other in the most demanding (and often unseen) ways, so it is an honor to celebrate and sponsor our kapwa and to be seen by each other on a special night made just for Filipinxs.

Support your local initiatives like . That’s representation.

Special thanks to for being our date and connecting us with the LA Filipinx community, for capturing the community, , , and for CONSTANTLY championing our ppl, and ED of SIPA for heading and doing the whole damn thing!

: Handloomed Belted Poncho & Ifugao Bahag Dress (Hinulgi)

Ethically sourced directly from , the Unisex Handloomed Belted Poncho is a Kalinga-inspired modern woven design by the talented folx at Ifugao Nation. The poncho’s particular design takes its inspiration from the Kalinga woven star motive called “sinambituwan.” Wear it with the belt it comes with, without the belt, or with a different statement belt!

The Handloomed Ifugao Bahag Dress is made with handloomed Ifugao textile, also ethically sourced directly from Ifugao Nation. The weave design is called hinulgi, which means “ancestor guardians.” The dress is inspired by the bahag, the traditional men’s loin cloth, of the Cordilleras region.

Both of these beautiful garments are available in small quantities on vintagallery.com ❤️
