Curious Crow Creatives
A Halifax based artist, designer, and illustrator! Original artwork, prints, and custom commissions
A sneak peek at what I’ve been doing with that femur bone drawing I did last month! Still lots to work to go!
I recently got these Inktense pencils and they’re really great to work with! I tried them out on this quick peony sketch first drawing out the outline in the coloured pencil and then going in with a wet brush to create a watercolour look. They dry like ink though so you can create layered pieces without disturbing the first layers! I’m excited to keep trying new things with these! *

I’m excited to finally get to share this pet portrait commission! Calli & Skye sat very nicely for their reference photos and were a dream to draw! See the next post for a time lapse of the process. *

I don’t think I’ve ever posted about this beautiful glass pen I got from my in-laws last Christmas, but it’s been the perfect tool for my Murmurations series. Working on a new piece now! Pen by: *

When you don’t feel like holding a blow dryer forever to dry your work, improvise! (Don’t worry, it’s never left unattended while on and it doesn’t get very warm). *

I keep paper on my art table not only to keep things clean but because I always need somewhere to jot down ideas. New piece coming at you soon! *

I’m so happy to finally get to share this cute illustrative piece I was commissioned to do by my sister’s friends for her birthday! They wanted a fun play on the classic dogs playing poker painting with Liv and her cats! On the ends of the table we’ve got Charlie and Dinah, her current cats, and in the middle are Sasha and Penny, who both have passed on. I loved getting to work on this so much! *

I’m so happy to see this piece I drew last year hanging in its new home. This is a memory piece I did for some long time family friends and I felt so honoured to get to create it for Matt to remember his dad by. ❤️
PINK! I decided to try an experiment and change up the colours on my latest Isolation Map on Black. I used a powdered pigment from Culture Hustle and tried different method of applying it. I like how this paint reveals the grooves of the layers of black paint I put down for the background. Looking forward to adding the line work and seeing how it changes! *

Finished up Isolation Map Black #2 last night! Thought a lot about personal boundaries while working on this one. How they change, how they react to other boundaries. *

Laid down some watercolour on top of some blackest black paint today for a new black Isolation Map. Here’s a look at how the gold floats in the water when it’s wet. I love how it looks and can’t wait to see what it becomes when it’s dry. *

I started this new style of Isolation Map ages ago and finally finished it off today! I used the blackest black acrylic paint for the background, my usual watercolour for the blue, the goldest gold acrylic paint for the gold and a white gel pen for the line work! Looking forward to making more of these, I like how the different materials work together. What do you think?! *

These are some great imaginative pieces! I love finding the artist references in each one!
Here’s a new experiment with my BLK 3.0 acrylic paint! Trying out an Isolation map on a black background with white gel pen line work. Also featured is a little bit of the Goldest Gold! I’m still working on the line work but what do you think? Swipe for a look at the piece before the gel pen! *

Oh boy am I excited to try out BLK 3.0 from Culture Hustle & Stuart Semple! It’s the blackest black acrylic paint out there and absorbs up to 99% of visible light! And it’s a big ol’ f*ck you to Anish Kapoor for “owning” Vantablack. I’m excited to try out BLK 3.0 in my latest Isolation series. *

How does a boundary change? Slowly over time or suddenly in a second?
