Keep Your Hopes Up High - Curated Cannabis Content from an Island Connoisseur
Top officials in the Bahamas have announced a legislative package that would legalize ma*****na for medical, religious and research purposes. Personal possession of small amounts of cannabis would also be decriminalized, and past convictions for simple possession would be expunged.
While the policy reforms would not legalize cannabis broadly, possession of up to 30 grams of ma*****na would be decriminalized, subject to a $250 fine in lieu of a criminal record. Past convictions for simple possession would also be expunged.
OUR THOUGHTS:
As is the case for most drugs, cannabis use has costs and benefits, and so do the policies that attempt to minimize the first and maximize the second.Although we are happy to see some progress in regards to legalization in The Bahamas, it is well documented that there are cons to only allowing medical legalization. Governments who take this path face a number of major challenges, namely, a lack of approved medical cannabis products for doctors to prescribe; the reluctance of physicians to prescribe unapproved cannabinoids; and the high cost to patients of using approved cannabis medicines. The legalization of adult cannabis use is a more honest policy than the de facto legalization of adult use under liberal medical cannabis regulation. The most common approach in the US and Canada has been to regulate cannabis like alcohol use by licensing producers, processors, and retailers and allowing them to operate for profit.
We advocate for full legalization;
-possess up to 30 grams of legal cannabis, dried flower or equivalent in non-dried form in public
-share up to 30 grams of legal cannabis with other adults
-buy legal cannabis, dried flower or equivalent from a licensed retailer
-individuals are able to purchase cannabis online from licensed producers
-grow, from licensed seed or seedlings, up to 4 cannabis plants per residence for personal use
-make cannabis products, such as food and drinks, at home
We hope the government of The Bahamas reconsiders its pathway to legalization & does not continue wasting time & money delaying much needed access to cannabis.

Although we a grateful for these attempts at medical legalization it’s clear that by decriminalizing & charging fines for amounts less then 30g is the Bahamian governments way of profiting. Allowing only a few medical conditions to qualify for a prescription alienates a large chunk of the citizenry that still requires access for medical purposes. Recreational legalization can lower the drinking rate & benefit a larger portion of the population & generate much more profit. As always the Bahamian government falls short & far behind.

happy 420✨ the disproportionate incarceration rates & dispensary licensing approval plagues the legal industry while our nation lags behind. legalize it, & where legalized, support black & brown cannabis entrepreneurs ✌️

Today is Charlotte Figi day 💜 Charlotte’s sudden and tragic passing at the age of thirteen on April 07, 2020, is an urgent reminder that life is precious, that dignity of choice is critical, and that the courage of innocence is a guidepost for human wellness.
Today, and every day, Realm of Caring is guided by our North Star, Charlotte, reminding us why we fight for access for all - through education, research, and advocacy. We continue because everyone deserves the dignity of choice. We continue because Charlotte’s impact remains the footprint of our path forward; toward care for all through the healing power of the Earth.
Dear Charlotte,
You showed us that cannabis could serve as a legitimate medicine. You helped all of us to move from a place of stigma to a place of compassion. After decades of prohibition, cannabis was more widely making its way into daily conversation, the medical community, and scientific research. The power of the plant that our ancestors, centuries before us, knew to be sacred was making a name for itself once again as a natural solution. And this was all because the world witnessed you Charlotte as you reclaimed your quality of life. We are so thankful your parents shared you with us. For their courage, which they surely learned from you, we thank you.
Love,
All your friends at the Realm of Caring
Sending all of our love today to Paige, Matt, Chase, Max, Greg, and Aspen. 💜

Happy St. Patrick’s Day ☘️ Who’s getting higher than the Irish today? 💨
“Well-behaved women rarely make history.” –Eleanor Roosevelt. Happy International Women’s Day 2022! Here’s to strong women. May we know them. May we be them. May we raise them and May we puff puff pass with them 💨🍃🚺
Today is the International Day of Women and Girls in Science. Science and gender equality are both vital for the achievement of the internationally agreed development goals, including the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, according to the . Over the past 15 years, the global community has made a lot of effort in inspiring and engaging women and girls in science. Yet women and girls continue to be excluded from participating fully in science.
At present, less than 30 per cent of researchers worldwide are women. According to UNESCO data (2014 - 2016), only around 30 per cent of all female students select STEM-related (STEM = Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) fields in higher education. Globally, female students’ enrolment is particularly low in ICT (Information & Communications Technology), (3 per cent), natural science, mathematics and statistics (5 per cent) and in engineering, manufacturing and construction (8 per cent).
Long-standing biases and gender stereotypes are steering girls and women away from science related fields. As in the real world, the world on screen reflects similar biases—the 2015 Gender Bias Without Borders study by the Geena Davis Institute showed that of the onscreen characters with an identifiable STEM job, only 12 per cent were women.
In order to achieve full and equal access to and participation in science for women and girls, and further achieve gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls, the United Nations General Assembly adopted resolution declaring 11 February as the International Day of Women and Girls in Science.

Martin Luther King Jr. never spoke publicly about cannabis, but his life and works provide important context for cannabis legalization and the fight against the “New Jim Crow” of the war on drugs.

Footprints in the sand 👣 One night I dreamed a dream. As I was walking along the beach with my Lord. Across the dark sky flashed scenes from my life. For each scene, I noticed two sets of footprints in the sand, One belonging to me and one to my Lord. After the last scene of my life flashed before me, I looked back at the footprints in the sand. I noticed that at many times along the path of my life, especially at the very lowest and saddest times, there was only one set of footprints. This really troubled me, so I asked the Lord about it. “Lord, you said once I decided to follow you, You'd walk with me all the way. But I noticed that during the saddest and most troublesome times of my life, there was only one set of footprints. I don't understand why, when I needed You the most, You would leave me." He whispered, "My precious child, I love you and will never leave you. Never, ever, during your trials and testings. When you saw only one set of footprints, It was then that I carried you." 🇧🇸🙏
