If you are new if sewing swimwear it might be not obvious but it is very important. Using elastic in for bikinis is a standart in swimwear manufacturing.
Depending on the design, soft swimwear elastic should be mandatory added to the curves (such as leg holes, arm holes, necklines) but also to the bandeau like types of constructions, straps and waisbands.
The main reason why elastics are using in the swimwear making so often is because it helps to prevent overstretching of the edging and to keep a form.
If you have home sewing machine the easiest way to add the elastic is use the zig zag stitch.
