Today is Bandcamp Friday, when artists earn 100% of purchases. This is another deleted archival release from 2007. Return of the Throatwobbler was the second of two EP released for the now-defunct Karloff Rekordings, a Cologne label run by Falko Brocksieper and Mia Grobelny. The label was an offshoot of main label Sub Static.
Both tracks are explorations in stripped down tech-funk.
Originally a vinyl release in 2007, it is now available digitally again after a limited run in the Kompakt mp3 shop, and features the original 2007 master.

Throatwobbler Mangrove was the first of two EP's released for the now-defunct Karloff Rekordings, a Cologne label run by Falko Brocksieper and Mia Grobelny. The label was an offshoot of main label Sub Static.
All tracks feature Jeff's signature blippy funk with dashes of melody. Three of the four tracks were produced in the Y2K. The fourth track is one of Jeff's only collaborations to date, in this case with North Carolinian James Thomason.
Originally a vinyl release in 2003, it is now available digitally and features the original 2003 master.

Every electronic musician has their favorite early synth visionary, and it's always been Dave Smith for me. I taught myself synthesis on a Prophet 600, the first synth with MIDI. Spent an entire year just listening to how each function interacted with another. No youtube tutorials, no websites, just listening. It had an internal sequencer, which I discovered couldn't sync with the non-MIDI drum machine I'd bought (noob mistake)! I would match the tempos by ear, though they could never stay synced for long (that's analog for ya). Months before, I had actually put money down to reserve a Roland SH-101, and never went back to pay the rest because my heart was really set on a Sequential. Best decision I ever made. Thanks, Dave.
Dave Smith, founder of Sequential and ‘father’ of MIDI, has died at 72 Dave Smith, founder of Sequential and whose contributions to MIDI were instrumental to the world of music, has died at the age of 72.
Today is Bandcamp Friday, when artists earn 100% of purchases. I'm launching my BC today with a long-deleted rare release.
The EP, first released by Tom Churchill's Emoticon label in 2002, was my first entry into experimental and electro music. Originally a vinyl-only release, it is now available digitally for the first time.
The digital release include two bonus tracks: "Hopefulless", originally released in 2001 on the Emoticon Sampler Three V/A. Also included is "Just Wandering," a demo sketch which eventually turned into "Nile" in the final release.
